to remove and to replace S&C Power Fuses of the following types and styles: The SMD Fuse Hoist features a pulley assembly with a large eye, designed to engage a hook on the SMD mount- ing. The hook is located next to the upper fuse clip of the vertical style SMD mounting and on the base of the inverted style SMD mounting.
Operation
First, the pulley assembly is hung on the hook of the SMD mounting. Next, the prong is removed from the lifting eye of the pulley assembly and lowered to the ground where it is inserted into the lifting eye of the fuse unit. Then, using the hoist line and the pole, the fuse unit is lifted and guided into the hinge of the fuse mounting. And nally, after removal of the fuse hoist from the hook on the SMD mounting, the fuse unit is closed using a station prong. The process is reversed when removing the fuse unit. A snubber mounted at the lower end of the pole smoothly and positively controls the lowering or raising of the fuse unit. The operator sets the snubber by a side- ways pull of the line and releases it by a pull parallel to the pole. Thus one hand has complete control of the line, leav- ing the other free to guide the pole.
Construction
Lightweight cast aluminum alloy is employed wherever practicable to minimize handling effort. The nylon line combines high strength with light weight. A tough, smooth, weather-resistant neoprene coating keeps the line waterproof and nonconductive. The withstand volt- age of the line is 75 kv per foot for ve minutes. The line is also available separately, in lengths made up for use with universal poles of various lengths. These are indicated in the table below. The pulley is laminated phenolic.

S&C Fuse Hoist
1. HOIST FUSE UNIT. The operator uses the integral prong on the fuse hoist to lift and install the pulley assembly on the mounting hook, and then, by use of the hoist-line and the pole, elevates and guides the fuse unit into the hinge on the fuse mounting.
SMD Fuse Hoist in Use
2. REMOVE PULLEY ASSEMBLY. With the fuse unit securely in the hinge, the operator uses the integral prong on the fuse hoist to lift and remove the pulley assembly from the mounting hook. 3. CLOSE FUSE. The operator uses a station prong to swing the SMD Fuse Unit to the fully closed position.
