Vocabulary Fact


Temperature is how hot or cold a thing is. Our bodies can feel the di#erence between
something which is hot and something which is cold.
Water freezes at a temperature of 0 C, 32 F, or 273.15 K.
The temperature inside the human body is close to 37 C or 98 F.
Water boils at 100 C, 212 F, or 373.15 K.
The coldest possible temperature is absolute zero. Absolute zero is 0 K,-459 F, or -273.15
C. At absolute zero molecules and atoms come to rest and so have no heat energy.

Vocabulary Fact


Rhyme means words that sound the same or similar in their endings. Poems and popular
song lyrics often use rhyme. A simple poem can also be called a rhyme.
Many examples of rhyme are in folk songs, children's songs, and of course in nursery
rhymes. Rhymes at the ends of the lines in a song or poem are normal:
Roses are red, violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet, and so are you.
Mary had a little lamb, its eece was white as snow,

after summer. But it is also cool because its such a great time of the year. I love the
changing of the leaves. The di#erent autumn colours are one of natures most beautiful
scenes. Sometimes I cant stop looking at the mountains near my house. They are like an
artists palette of golds, reds, yellows, browns and other autumnal colours. In America they
call autumn fall because that is when the leaves fall from the trees. I like the coolness of
autumn. Summer is over but you can still wear a T-shirt just about. You can also spend
hours outdoors without sweating. Autumn is the best time of the year to go hiking and go
for long walks.

Rain, rain go away. Come back another day. This is a nursery rhyme we used to sing in
England when we were small. We wanted it to stop raining so we could play. There was
nothing more depressing than looking at the rain outside the window when we really
wanted to go to the park. People around the world have di#erent opinions on rain. I went to
Dubai once and it rained. People were dancing in the streets. They said that rain was so
precious. They think its a special occasion when it rains so they like to feel it on their skin.
That makes sense. I do the same when it snows. People in Alaska might think thats
strange. I wonder how global warming will a#ect rain. More in some countries, less in
others.
