Using the DADpad

DADpad is a custom interface using the


JLCoopers MCSClipShot interface.
The DADpad has 40 multicolored LCD
Programmable buttons that can be assigned
both Audio and Command Cuts across ten
pages for a total of 400 pre-assigned cuts.

The DADpad can be configured to work with the
DAD Main Array page or both of the Mini Array
pages. By being associated with the Array
pages, one can also load different User Setup
file which in turn would load those pre-assigned
cuts into the DADpad buttons.



DADpad is a purchase item and must be enabled on the DAD Security Key.



Setting up the DAD CFI file

In DAD, one must configure the workstations CFI for use with the DADpad.

Wiring the DADpad to DAD

The DADpad will communicate with the DAD workstation via a 422 cable.

The wiring pin-out for the DADpad is listed below.


IMPORTANT: The pin-out is not standard for 422. Please
note the proper pin-out below

Powering up the DADpad

The DADpad unit should be powered on BEFORE one starts up the DAD application.

When DAD connects to the DADpad unit one will see the DADpad cycle through a series
of tests. The buttons 1 through 10 will turn on then off and the LCD Display will state:

DAD version (version number)



Using the DADpad in FULL Mode

When one has the DAD CFI set for DADPAD_MODE=FULL, one will see the Main Array
page across the DADpad unit. In DAD, the Main Array page size will be changed from its
normal 8 columns by 6 rows to the DADpad size of 10 columns by 4 rows.

One can press the numbers 1 through 10 to change between the Main Array pages.


Using the DADpad in SPLIT mode

When one has the DAD CFI set for DADPAD_MODE=SPLIT, one will see the two Mini
Array pages across the DADpad unit. In DAD, the Mini Array pages size will be changed
from their normal 4 columns by 6 rows to the DADpad size of 5 columns by 4 rows.
When in this mode, Mini Array 1 will be on the left side and Mini Array 2 will be on the
right side.

One can move between Mini-Array1 and 2 by using the < or > arrow buttons. Once on a
side one can press the numbers 1 through 10 to change between that Arrays pages.

The Array button use specific DADpad colors.
One can right click on an Array button and select the
DADpad colors.

The DADpad unit will only display the seven colors that
have DADpad as part of the color name.





Other Function Keys on the DADpad Unit

F-Keys

F3 Qwerty Keyboard
This changes the DADPAD Screen to display a Qwerty Keyboard. One can enter a
search string and have the results displayed on the Array buttons. To do a search, enter
the letters to search for and press ENTER.
Once the search has been done, one can press CLEAR to return to the Programmed
button for that User Setup.

F8 Cues Machine.
When one presses F8 one can select an assigned button. This allows one to use the <
or > arrow buttons to move the head forward or backwards in the selected audio file.
One will hear a sample of audio while doing this. Once the head marker has been set
pressing ENTER will temporally save the Head marker in that location.

F-Key combinations

F5+F6+F7 at power-up of the DADPAD Unit initiates a reload of memory for the unit.
This is like a reload or restart.

Other Keys

The numbered buttons across the top are for the Array pages. (page 1 = button 1 etc).

When using SPLIT mode (Mini-Array 1 is on the left and Mini-Array 2 is on the right) one
can move between Mini-Array1 and 2 by using the < or > arrow buttons.
