The monsoon in China is deficient, less than half of normal during this time of year. However, rain fall is
expected in Yangtze Valley, South China and North China during the next four days. Last week dryness
benefited early-crop rice harvesting, while moisture reserves continued to decline for late-crop and single-crop
rice in China.
Heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Thailand during Saturday to Monday. Improved monsoon rainfall
last week benefited rice in Thailand.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected across Vietnam through Friday.
Heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Eastern and Southern India during the next three days, benefiting
the rice crop there.
Weather is expected to remain dry in Pakistan.

Oryza U.S. Rough Rice Recap Prices Hold Steady Despite Weak Export Sales

As of today, old crop offers held steady near $15.75 per cwt fob farm (about $347 per ton) for July shipment
which generated very little interest although some sellers are still holding out for at least $16.11 per cwt fob
farm (about $355 per ton).Bids from exporters could still be found near $15.15 per cwt (about $334 per ton) for
July delivery while some smaller mills were unchanged around $16.00 per cwt (about $353 per ton) for the
same delivery period however there were reports rice trading as low as $15.40 per cwt (about $340 per ton) for
prompt delivery.
In the meantime, today the USDA reported that cumulative net export sales for the week ending on June 19th,
totaled 13,300 tons, which was 85% lower than last week and 68% lower than the prior 4-week average.

Increases were reported for the following destinations including: 6,500 tons to Colombia, 2,400 tons to Canada
1,500 tons to Saudi Arabia, 1,200 tons to Jordan, and 500 tons to Guatemala, while decreased of 200 tons and
100 tons were reported for Costa Rica and the Republic of South Africa, respectively. U.S. rice exporters
shipped 32,800 tons, which was 20% lower than the previous week and 39% lower than the prior 4-week
average. The primary destinations included: 13,000 tons to Japan, 8,800 tons to Haiti, 2,900 tons to Canada,
2,300 tons to Mexico, and 2,100 tons to South Korea

Oryza Rice Currency Analysis for Today Brazil Real Rallies 0.6%

U.S. dollar index was up +0.01% from the open today, when it traded at 80.232 at the close.
Euro was weaker -0.15% by the close, trading around 1.3608 by end of day, after trading between an intraday
high of 1.3641 and low of 1.3576.
Thai baht was weaker -0.04%, trading at 32.472 at the close of business.
Indian rupee was weaker -0.02% at 60.1425.


Brazilian real was stronger +0.57% at 2.1953 reais per dollar.
Pakistan rupee was -0.09% weaker at 98.7616.
Vietnamese dong was unchanged at 21330.
Mexican peso was weaker -0.07% today, when it traded at 13.0124 pesos per dollar by the close of business.
Chinese yuan was stronger +0.16% at 6.2249.
Argentine peso was stronger +0.01% at 8.1315 pesos per dollar.

High Protein Rice, Shimmery Rice and More at LSUs Annual Field Day

Among the many innovative rice breeds and products, this years annual field days at LSU AgCenters Rice
Research Station, Louisiana, also saw new high protein rice that is supposedly a boon to countries where rice is
the staple and the citizens cannot afford meat to get protein. Developed by AgCenter assistant professor Ida
Wenefreda, the unique rice variant has 10.5 per cent protein as compared to 6 per cent protein in regular rice.
The researcher said that work on the high protein rices cooking quality, productivity and shimmery appearance
are underway.

If Wenefreda is successful, high protein rice will be sought out by governments and NGOs as a means of
providing sustainable nourishment for the poor and impoverished all around the world.
he event which attracted more than 200 rice farmers also saw LSU researchers striving to make Louisiana rice
shimmery and visually attractive. At the end of the show, Iraq emerged as a potential customer for Acadiana
rice especially since Iraqi farmers were livid about harmful dioxin contaminating soil and water in vulnerable
areas.

Swing Wildly Ahead of First Notice Tomorrow

Chicago rough rice futures for Sep delivery settled 21.5 cents per cwt (about $5 per ton) lower at $13.460 per
cwt (about $297 per ton). The other grains finished the day higher; soybeans closed about 1.2% higher at
$12.4425 per bushel; wheat settled about 0.1% higher at $6.5600 per bushel, and corn finished the day about
0.7% higher at $4.4325 per bushel.U.S. stocks fell on Thursday as government data prompted downward
revisions to U.S. economic growth in the second quarter and after James Bullard, head of the Federal Reserve
Bank of St. Louis, said interest rates could increase sooner than expected.

Another report had U..S. jobless claims declining by 2,000 to 312,000 last week, in line with expectations. After
a 140-point fall, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was lately down 24.11 points, or 0.1 percent, at 16,843.40.


The S&P 500 fell 3.29 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,956.24, with financials and consumer staples leading sector
losses and utilities and consumer discretionary the best performing among its 10 major sectors. The Nasdaq
declined 4.97 points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,374.78. Gold is trading about 0.4% lower, crude oil is seen trading
about 0.9% lower, and the U.S. dollar is seen trading unchanged at about 2:45pm Chicago time.Wednesday,
there were 614 contracts traded, down from 1,058 contracts traded on Tuesday. Open interest the number of
contracts outstanding on Wednesday decreased by 7 contracts to 9,140.

Oryza Shares Press Release: Cambodian Rice Company Enters into Joint-Venture
with Dutch Rice Company

This week rice mill and exporter, Signatures of Asia Co Ltd., made their first joint investment with Alesie Food,
Holland B.V., to further strengthen the Cambodian Rice Industry. The two companies established a Joint-
Venture under the name Asian Parboiled Rice Producers Co. Ltd. A rice milling plant was bought in Cambodia,
and a state-of-the-art parboiling and drying rice factory was ordered in Brazil. This is the first parboiling plant
in Cambodia that will use Brazilian technology and equipment.

Managing Director Mr. Chan Vannak points out that rice farmers in the EU are now producing more short grain
rice than in the past. This means European consumers must turn to outside sources to meet their needs for long
grain rice. Thus, it is expected that the long grain parboiled rice provided by the new Joint-Venture will help to
fill a part of the gap in the current European rice market. Parboiling is an alternate processing method that
results in rice that is firmer, less sticky, and a better source of fiber, calcium, potassium and vitamins than other
types of rice.

input chain of rice production to the Cambodian farmer. Mr. Chan Vannak explained We have direct

Winning World Cup Recipes: Ghana vs Portugal

What better way to celebrate the World Cup festivities from afar than with some regionally-themed rice dishes!

For Thursdays game, Ghanian Waakye faces off against Portuguese Arroz de Tomate.
These dishes share several similarities. With just a few tweaks, either one can go from a tasty side dish to a
filling main entre. Vegetarian or meaty, just choose the stock or broth that works for
you. Waakye (pronounced wa-chay) is often served for breakfast or lunch with a spicy pepper sauce
called shito, but add some hard-boiled eggs, meat, fish, spaghetti, or vegetables and it can hold its own on the
dinner table. Arroz de tomate is a traditional Portuguese side dish that will put those boxed rice mixes to
shame. Good tomatoes are really key for this dish if its off-season or you cant find any meaty, flavorful
varieties, dont be afraid to use a high-quality canned tomato instead. Add shrimp to the dish to round out the
Portuguese flavor.

Ghanian Waakye
The millet or sorghum give the rice both color and flavor. If you cant find either, using only baking soda will
still help the color develop, but youll be missing some of the traditional flavor.

What You Need:
2 cups black-eyed peas (or red beans)
4 dry leaves of millet or sorghum, rinsed clean
2 teaspoons baking soda
4 cups rice, washed
Salt, to taste

What You Do:
1. Wash and soak the beans in a large pot of water for 3-4 hours (or overnight). Drain them, and place
them in a large pot with about 2 cups of water.
2. Bring the beans and water to a boil and let cook for about 45 minutes. You want the beans cooked, but
not mushy, as they will continue cooking with the rice.
3. Add the millet or sorghum leaves to the beans. Add the baking soda and about 6 more cups of water and
let cook together for about 5 minutes.
4. Remove the millet or sorghum leaves. Add the rice to the pot and let cook until the water has been
absorbed, about 20 minutes, stirring to prevent burning on the bottom. The beans should be tender and
the rice should be cooked. Season with salt, to taste.


Portuguese Arroz de Tomate
What You Need:
1/8 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1.5-2 cups fresh tomatoes, peeled, chopped, and seeded (may use canned)
2 cups broth, stock, or other liquid (you can use white wine for about cup of this for more flavor; use
vegetable broth for a vegetarian meal or plain water for a low-sodium dish)
1 cup long-grain white rice
Salt, pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

What You Do:
1. In a large saucepan, heat olive oil and butter. Add the onion and garlic and saut until onion is soft and
lightly golden.
2. Add the chopped tomatoes, stir, and cover tightly. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
3. Add the broth and bring to a full boil.
4. Stir in the rice and reduce to heat to low. Cover the pot and cook for 20 minutes or until all of the liquid
is absorbed and the rice is tender.
5. Salt and pepper to taste, and garnish with fresh parlsey, tomato slices, or diced bacon/ham.

Oryza Overnight Recap - Chicago Rough Rice Futures Bounce Overnight after
Multi-Session Sell-off; Grains Show Strength Despite Macroeconomic Instability

Chicago rough rice futures for Sep delivery are currently noted 5.5 cents per cwt (about $1 per ton) higher at
$13.730 per cwt (about $303 per ton) as of 9:00am Chicago time. The other grains are seen higher this morning
ahead of floor trading in Chicago: soybeans are currently seen about 0.7% higher, wheat is trading 0.3% higher,
and corn is noted about 0.4% higher.

U.S. stock index futures were little changed to slightly higher on Thursday after the government reported
consumer spending increased less than forecast in May and jobless claims fell last week. Another report


Thursday had personal spending rising a less-than-forecast 0.2% in May, after holding flat in April, and
personal income rising 0.4%. Markets overseas were boosted by a weaker-than-expected reading on U.S.
economic growth, which reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve will not raise interest rates any time
soon. The U.S. economy contracted 2.9% on an annualized basis in the first quarter, a much steeper pace than
expected, which briefly sent yields on benchmark 10 year-Treasury notes to three-week lows.

U.S. stock-index futures were little changed to slightly higher on Thursday after the government reported
consumer spending increased less than forecast in May and jobless claims fell last week. Separately, May
durable goods orders unexpectedly declined 1% on the month, while the services sector expanded at its fastest
clip in more than four years in June. Tensions in Ukraine and a continuing military insurgency in Iraq are also
on investors' minds. Militants seized control of one of Iraq's largest airbase on Wednesday, as well as the Ajeel
oil site, located east of Tikrit. The attack came as Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said he supported attempts to
form a new government by July 1. Meanwhile, Western powers warned Russia that they might impose new
sanctions if Moscow does not take more action to defuse the conflict in east Ukraine. Gold is currently trading
about 0.4% lower, crude oil is seen trading about 0.2% lower, and the U.S. dollar is currently trading
unchagned at 8:45am Chicago time.

Vietnam Government Releases Blueprint to Develop Domestic and Export Rice

Vietnam government has issued a plan to develop domestic rice market as well as expand trade promotion
activities to increase Vietnamese rice exports, according to local sources.Government Notice 239/TB-VPCP,
issued on June 23, 2014 focuses on the current and past rice export situation as well as recommends solutions to
expand exports in the future. The government is involving the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), Ministry
of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) and the related sectors
in developing the domestic rice market and identifying key export markets while retaining the traditional export
markets.

They will work towards striking a balance between the domestic market's supply and demand for commercial
rice and exports. The three entities will also devise policies for developing trademarks for Vietnamese rice
exports as well as rice product exports.The MoIT and the VFA have been entrusted with the responsibility of
getting new government-to-government (G2G) export contracts, promoting signing of memorandum of
understanding (MOU) on commercial activities for rice and implementing them efficiently. The VFA has been
instructed to suitably adjust the floor price of rice exports taking into consideration the supply and demand
aspects of the domestic market.

The Notice also stated that the trade offices of Vietnam in other countries would support the Ministries in rice
export promotion activities.Vietnam exported about 2.687 million tons of rice during January 1 June 19, 2014,
down about 23% from about 3.5 million tons of rice exported during January-June, 2013, according to data


from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA). Average rice export price so far in this year stands at about $433
per ton (FOB), up about $2 per ton from about $431 per ton recorded during January - June, 2013
Philippines to Import Another 250,000 Tons of Rice in 2014 to Prevent Shortages and
Price Hikes

The Philippines is set to import another 250,000 tons of rice in 2014 supplementing the 800,000 tons of rice
already being imported from Vietnam to boost the current buffer stock and control increasing prices, according
to local sources.The newly appointed National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator told local media sources
that the NFA Council has approved for the import of new stocks and the officials are planning for their arrival
between August and September this year.

The Presidential Office stated that of the 800,000 tons imported by the NFA in the beginning of this year,
around 193,000 tons of rice have been delivered, and around 274,250 tons are scheduled to arrive in late June
and the remaining 332,350 tons are expected by the end of August.Last week, the NFA said it is expecting
domestic rice prices to increase by about 5%, or P2 per kilogram (around $45 per ton) during the 2014 lean
season (July - September), but the increase is temporary and that prices would stabilize once the harvest for the
ongoing crop begins in September. However, several agricultural groups have slammed NFA for not being able
to control prices despite importing 800,000 tons of rice. Currently, domestic prices of regular milled rice stand
at about P40 per kilogram (around $909 per ton), while those of well-milled rice is about P42 per kilogram
(around $955 per ton).

The NFA and the Presidential Office have been assuring the public that NFA's stocks would be sufficient for 73
days. The NFA has increased its daily rice release limit to 8,000 tons from 4,000 tons to prevent shortages and
curb hikes. It also assured that the current prices of NFA well-milled rice at P32 per kilogram (around $727 per
ton) will not be increased despite increases in market prices.

According to data from the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization, average domestic prices of regular milled
rice increased to around P37,020 (around $844) per ton in June 2014, up about 22% from around P30,340
(around $710) per ton in June 2013. Average domestic prices of well milled rice increased to around P39,860
(around $909) per ton in June 2014, up about 20% from around P33,180 (around $770) per ton in June 2013.

The USDA estimates the Philippines will import around 2 million tons of rice in MY 2013-14 (July June),
including around 500,000 tons of unofficial rice imports, and the UNs Food and Agriculture Organization
estimates the country to import around 1.2 million tons of rice in 2014 (January December).


Indian State Punjab Plans to Double Basmati Acreage to One Million Hectares and
Cut Down Non-Basmati Acreage by 120,000 Hectares to Prevent Depletion of
Groundwater Levels

Indian state Punjab, the largest producer of basmati rice in the country, has proposed to double area under
basmati to one million hectares from the current 500,000 hectares, and cut-down area under non-basmati paddy
by about 120,000 hectares over the next couple of years, according to local sources.

The government is particularly promoting the use of the new high-yielding basmati variety PUSA 1509, which
is said to mature early as well as require less water. PUSA 1121, the earlier version of PUSA 1509 is also
equally popular in Punjab, but farmers are preferring the new variety because it yields about 23-24 quintals per
acre (around 5.75 - 6 tons per hectare) and will require at least six irrigations lesser than the PUSA 1121.
The move is part of an ambitious crop diversification program being planned by the Punjab state government,
and is primarily to prevent further depletion of groundwater levels, which had already gone down significantly
due to excessive sowing of paddy. Increase in basmati rice exports during the recent past has also encouraged
the state government to increase area under basmati, while also addressing the issue of falling groundwater
levels.

India exported around 3.76 million tons of basmati rice in FY 2013-14 (April - March), up about 9% from
around 3.46 million tons exported in FY 2012-13, according to data from the Agricultural and Processed Food
Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). India exported a total of 10.78 million tons of rice
(including basmati and non-basmati) in FY 2013-14, up about 6% from about 10.15 million tons exported last
year.

EU Imports 820,438 Tons of Milled Rice in September 1, 2013 - June 17, 2014; Up
17% from Last Year

The European Union (EU) has imported around 820,438 tons of milled rice in September 1, 2013 - June 17,
2014, up about 17% from around 701,855 tons imported during the same period last year, according to the EU
data.The United Kingdom was the largest importer among the EU countries, accounting for around 191,795
tons, or about 23% of the total EU imports during September 1, 2013 - June 17, 2014. France accounted for
around 136,523 tons (about 17% of total EU imports), Netherlands accounted for around 102,652 tons (about
13% of total EU imports), Italy accounted for around 56,963 tons (about 7% of total EU imports) and Spain
accounted for around 42,003 tons (about 5% of total EU imports during the period).


The EU data shows that milled Indica rice imports increased to around 748,017 tons in September 1, 2013 -
June 17, 2014, up about 19% from around 626,942 tons imported during the same period last year. Most of this
rice is understood to be imported from Less Developed Countries (LDCs) Cambodia and Myanmar at zero-duty
under the Everything but Arms (EBA) agreement. However, broken rice imports declined to around 240,784
tons during the period, down by about 5% from around 253,894 tons imported last year.

Vietnam Rice Quotes Mixed Today; Other Asia Rice Quotes Unchanged

Vietnam rice sellers lowered their quotes for 25% broken rice by about $5 per ton to around $355 - $365 per ton
and increased their quotes for Jasmine rice by about $10 per ton to around $565 - $575 per ton today. India and
Pakistan rice sellers kept their quotes mostly unchanged. Thailand rice quotes for white rice are not available
today.

5% Broken Rice

Thai 5% rice (of new crop) was last quoted at around $380 - $390 per ton, about $25 per ton lower than Viet 5%
rice (of new crop) quoted at around $405 - $415 per ton.
Indian 5% rice is quoted at around $430 - $440 per ton, about $10 per ton lower than Pak 5% rice quoted at
around $440 - $450 per ton.

25% Broken Rice

Thai 25% rice (of the old crop) was last quoted at around $350 - $360 per ton, about $5 per ton lower than Viet
25% rice (of new crop) quoted at around $355 - $365 per ton, down about $5 per ton from yesterday. Indian
25% rice is quoted at around $390 - $400 per ton, about $5 per ton above Pak 25% quoted at around $385 -
$395 per ton.
Parboiled Rice
Thai parboiled rice (of the old crop) is quoted at around $425 - $435 per ton. Indian parboiled rice is quoted at
around $405 - $415 per ton, about $30 per ton lower than Pak parboiled rice quoted at around $435 - $445 per
ton.
100% Broken Rice
Thai broken rice, A1 Super, (of the old crop) was last quoted at around $310 - $320 per ton, about $20 per ton
lower than Viet broken rice (of new crop) quoted at around $330 - $340 per ton.Indian broken sortexed rice is
quoted at around $315 - $325 per ton, about $10 per ton lower than Pak broken sortexed rice quoted at around
$325 - $335 per ton.
