Introduction
The ancient 2ingdom of Theylinn is beset by enemies both from ithin and
ithout. 7ithin the castle alls, nobles vie for the old 0ing8s favor, and not
everybody is happy ith the sole heir to the throne, princess %hiannon.
4eanhile, danger approaches, in the form of an invading army, a hostile
giant, and a mercenary troop ho are ancient enemies of the Theylann 2ing.
-nd there is mystery yet. 5or hidden ithin the borders of Theylinn lies a
second 2ingdom, named Thierna na ,ge, here the faeries reign. 6ittle is
2non about this shrouded, e9otic realm.
Prologue
#n the year )"* :old rec2oning; a group of <ualinic raiders accosted 0ing
Culann as he traveled through his realm of Theylinn. Not ishing to yield his
riches to mere thugs, the 2ing ordered his escort to attac2 but his 2nights
ere overmatched, and in the ensuing battle, 0ing Culann as slain. 3is only
son, =ortigern, as croned the ne 2ing, and started his reign ith a thirst
for revenge. (athering his mighty armies, he marched forth unto <ualinem,
and unto victory. #t should have ended there. >ut the victory only instilled in
=ortigern a lust for further con&uest. City after city fell to his forces and all the
free lands trembled at the approach of =ortigern the >loody.
-s =ortigern marched on the duchy of (ronthal, he as met ith fierce
resistance. The locals rallied behind one 4aeldun 7hiteblade, ho managed
to drive bac2 the invaders. Soon, 4aeldun became a local legend. %umor had
it that he as a sorcerer?s son and possessed a magic girdle that made him
invincible in combat. 4aeldun?s band @oined forces ith 6ady >ranyn, a
<ualinic mercenary captain. 7ith their numbers groing almost daily, they
made a slo march for Theylinn, liberating many cities on their ay.
=ortigern?s forces ere overe9tended and failed to mount a sufficient
defense, thus the Southern Ampire met its end at the hands of 4aeldun and
>ranyn. 3is dreams shattered, =ortigern as left to rule Theylinn as a bitter
hus2 of a man.

Installation
+; -fter 8- Tale of To 0ingdoms8 has been donloaded, open the -T,T0
setup program.
2; !lease read the #nformation Bisclaimer then clic2 the 8Ne9t8 button to
continue.
.; Cou ill be prompted to select a destination folder for installation of the
game. #f you do not ish to install the game in the default folder, please
select another destination.
"; - progress bar ill sho up indicating ho much of the game has been
installed. !lease ait until the progress bar is at +00D.
$; - message ill notify you if the installation as successful. There ill be
three optionsE1

Game Setup
The default graphics mode is .209200, in full1screen mode. This is the mode
the game as originally designed for. ,n older computers, this mode is
recommended because it has faster gameplay than any other.
#f desired, you can select the chec2bo9 to run in a indo instead of full1
screen.
Cou can change the resolution to '"09"00. This is primarily useful in
indoed mode, to double the siGe of your playing indo. This mode uses
the .209200 graphics, doubled in siGe and automatically smoothed somehat.
6aptop or flatscreen monitors may have a different height1to1idth ratio than
.209200, causing the graphics may loo2 stretched. To alleviate this, select the
chec2bo9 to Jforce alternate letterbo9 resolutionJ
!ress 8save and run8 to play.
Running the Game
,nce 8- Tale of To 0ingdoms8 is installed, you can run the game by opening
the directory here the game as installed.
,nce in the game directory, double clic2 on the -T,T0 icon.
This ill open the game to play. To start a ne game, select the NA7 (-4A
option on the main menu.
#f you ish to restore a previously saved game, select the 6,-B (-4A
option. This ill bring up a list of previously saved games to choose from.
Select the game you ish to restore, and press the 6,-B button. #f you
decide not to restore a game, or have no saved games to restore, choose the
C-NCA6 button to return to the main menu.
#f you ish to vie the credits, select the C%AB#TS option.
#f you decide you do not ish to play 8- Tale of To 0ingdoms8, choose the
</#T option. This ill e9it the game.

Icons and Cursors
The (/#, or graphical user interface, can be accessed by moving your mouse
to the top of the screen. The command bar ill then appear. -lternatively,
cycle through the different icons by right1mouse clic2ing.

Clic2 this cursor here you ant 4aeldun to
al2. The 2eyboard can also be used for
al2ing.
6,,0 Clic2 this cursor on the item, person, or area
you ish to loo2 at.
T,/C3 Clic2 this cursor on the item or person to touch.
Bepending on the target, this may cause
4aeldun to pic2 up items, open doors, move
roc2s around, sha2e hands ith people, and so
forth.
T-60 Clic2 this cursor on the person or thing that you
ish to tal2 to.

The cursor displayed for the inventory is an
image of the current inventory selected. Clic2
the icon here you ish to use the item. To
access your inventory, open the inventory icon
on the command bar at the top of the screen.
The mouse heel can also be used to access
inventory items.
Game ptions
#n the command bar, select the (-4A ,!T#,NS icon.
This ill lead to a variety of options here you can ad@ust game speed,
volume, and save, restore, restart or &uit the game.
SAVE: Saves your game8s progress.
RESTORE: %estores to a previously saved game.
RESTART: %estarts the game from the beginning.
QUIT: A9its the game.
ABOUT: #nformation about the game.
PLAY: %eturn to the game.
VOLUE: -lters the volume of sound and music.
SPEE!: -lters the game speed.
To "a#e a game, choose the S-=A button in the (-4A ,!T#,NS menu.
Type in the name of your save game, and press the S-=A button in order to
save your game. :See page +. for more detail;
To re"tore a game, choose the %AST,%A button in the (-4A ,!T#,NS
menu. Select the game you ould li2e to restore, and clic2 the 6,-B button in
order to restore your game. :See page +. for more detail;
To re"tart the game, choose the %AST-%T button in the (-4A ,!T#,NS
menu. This ill ta2e you bac2 to the main menu, here you can then choose
NA7 (-4A in order to play the game from the beginning.
To $%it the game, choose the </#T button in the (-4A ,!T#,NS menu.
This ill give a prompt as2ing hether you ould li2e to &uit. !ress CAS to
&uit, or N, to return to the game.

Sa!ing and Restoring
-ccess the save and restore interfaces through the (-4A ,!T#,NS menu in
the command bar. -lternatively, saving and restoring a game can be
accessed through 5$ and 57 respectively.
To save your game under a different
name, type in a ne name on the top
line. Clic2 the 8Save8 button to save the
game.
To overrite a previously saved game,
select a game in the saved game list.
The selected game ill be highlighted
yello. ,nce clic2ed, the top line ill
change to the name of that saved
game. !ress the 8Save8 button.
To restore a game, open the 8%estore8
menu. Clic2 on the name of the game
you ish to load. The selected game ill
be highlighted yello. !ress 86oad8 to
restore the game.
Saved games can be deleted from both
the 8Save8 and 8%estore8 menus. Select
the game you ish to delete, then press
the 8Belete8 button. - prompt ill as you
if you are sure you ish to delete the gameK if you are, select 8Ces8.
#f you decide not to save or restore a game, and ish to return to the current
game, press the 8Cancel8 button.
Accessing In!entory
To access your inventory, press T-> or move your mouse to the command
bar and select the inventory icon.
Cour inventory items appear in the outer
circle. To vie more of your inventory, press
the don arro. To go bac2 to your
previous screen of inventory, press the up
arro.
To select an item, clic2 on the large arro
and then clic2 on the inventory item of your
choice. The cursor ill change to your
currently selected ob@ect. %eturn to the
game by pressing the I button.
To e9amine an inventory item, select the 6,,0 icon, then clic2 it on the
ob@ect you ish to loo2 at.
To touch an inventory item, select the 3-NB icon, then clic2 it on the ob@ect
you ish to interact ith.
To use the inventory item in the game, clic2 the ob@ect on the thing or area
you ish to use it.
Some items can be combined ith one another. To do so, first select an item
ith the large arro. Scroll to the page here the other item is, and then clic2
the cursor8s hotspot on the item.

Controlling "on#Player Characters
Some non1player characters allo you to as2 them to do something for you.
5irst, spea2 to the character, and choose the option Can you do something
for me... -t the top of the screen a bar ill appear hich says Ask person!
to...
Cou can no as2 the N!C to do something ith the 6,,0 and T,/C3 icons.
#f the character permits, you ill also be able to access their inventory, and
borro ob@ects, or as2 them to use their inventory for you.
To finish as2ing the N!C to do something, move the mouse to the top of the
screen, and choose the cross in order to control 4aeldun once more.
NoteE Some N!Cs ill not be illing to ta2e orders from you.
$sing the Keyboard
The 2eyboard can be used for al2ing, as ell as accessing shortcuts. /se
the up, don, left and right arros to move around. Biagonal al2ing can be
achieved by using 3ome :to move north1est;, !age Bon :south1east;,
!age /p :north1east; and And :south1est;. The number pad can also be
used as long as Num 6oc2 is off. To begin moving, tap the 2ey in the direction
you ish to go once. To stop moving, tap the same 2ey again. Bo not hold
don the 2ey as this ill result in difficulties moving.

playable to the very end.

8- Tale of To 0ingdoms8 has honour and isdom scores, depending on your
actions and hat optional puGGles you complete. Try to complete the game
and get full pointsF
NoteE #t is also possible to lose honour and isdom points, possibly
permanently depending on your decisions.
S'ipping Scenes
8- Tale of To 0ingdoms8 has a number of cut scenes here the game is not
under your control, and here you instead atch automatic scenes beteen
the main character and other characters, or other characters interacting of
their on accord.
These scenes in 8- Tale of To 0ingdoms8 can be s2ipped for players ho
ish to replay the game but do not ant to atch the same scene again.
To s2ip a cutscene, press ASC and ait for the game to continue at the ne9t
point of gameplay. Clic2ing the right mouse button ill also s2ip the scene.
#t is advisable that you do not s2ip cutscenes the first time you play the game,
as you may miss dialogue important to parts of the game and its story.
