DIY: GYM BAG BY MO*MOSELLE

WHEN IS A GYM BAG NOT JUST A GYM BAG? WHEN ITS SO CUTE YOU WANT TO USE IT EVERY DAY. MO FROM THE BLOG MO*MOSELLE CAN SHOW YOU
HOW TO SEW YOUR VERY OWN DRAWSTRING GYM BAG, COMPLETE WITH LEATHER STRAPS. USE DIFFERENT FABRICS OR COLORED CORD TO COMPLETELY
CHANGE THE LOOK OR JUST MAKE ONE FOR EACH DAY OF THE WEEK.

YOU WILL NEED:

Durable fabric (e.g. upholstery fabric/canvas) An eyelet set (8 mm)
Hole punch, neon yarn, leather needle for sewing machine
Leather straps (2 cm wide and as long as you want to have your
handles) Cord (5 mm x 2 m)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Sew the top edge of the
1
fabric with a simple lock stitch
(1 cm seam allowance, about 10 cm
long). This will be where you thread
the drawstring through.

12

Fold the fabric 5 cm over and

neaten the drawstring tunnel
with a lockstitch.
2

Now sew the sides

of the gym bag
together with a lock, zigzag stitch or
overlock.
3

Pin the fabric 5 cm from the

corners and sew from one
pin to the other.
5

Follow the instructions on the

eyelets set. Tip: use a hole
punch to punch the holes in the
fabric and punch a smaller size than
finally wanted. This will prevent the
fabric around the eyelets from fraying
so quickly.
6

You can leave the drawstring

as it is (it also works fine), or
you can sew it a little tighter.
7

By doing this, the cord drawstring

will be separated from the seams of
the leather handles.

Using a leather needle, sew

the straps onto the gym bag.
Then pull one cord end (with a safety
pin attached) through the drawstring
tunnel. Poke the two ends of each
side through the corresponding
eyelet and tie a knot in them. Pin
the fabric 5 cm from the corners and
sew from one pin to the other.
8

And now your bag is done!

Use it as a backpack with the
drawstring, or as a handbag with
the leather straps. Either way, youre
now officially the cutest bunny at
the gym.

DIY: AFGHAN BISCUITS

18

THIS RECIPE BELONGS TO EMMA, WHO USED TO WORK FOR DAWANDAS ENGLISH TEAM. WE MISS HER AROUND THE OFFICE, BUT AT LEAST WE HAVE HER
AFGHAN RECIPE TO REMEMBER HER BY. EMMA BROUGHT THE RECIPE WITH HER FROM HER NATIVE NEW ZEALAND THESE COOKIES ARE A KIWI CLASSIC,
THOUGH NO ONE CAN QUITE AGREE WHERE THE NAME COMES FROM! READ ON FOR CHOCOLATEY, NUTTY GOODNESS.

YOU WILL NEED:

200 g softened butter 1/2 cup
white sugar 1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup cornflakes

YOU WILL NEED:

250 grams icing sugar 50 grams
cocoa powder 1 teaspoon butter
(melted) Boiled water
1 cup cornflakes

INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat the over to 180 C
1
and line an oven tray with
baking paper. Cream the
butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix above together and
1
gradually add enough boiled
water to make a smooth and
thick mix.

Sieve the flour and cocoa

together in a separate bowl and
mix together. Add the flour mixture to
the butter mixture and stir with a
wooden spoon until well combined.
Add the cornflakes to this mixture it
is ok to crunch them up a bit.

The biscuits will keep for

35 days in an airtight
container. But who can hold
on to so much chocolate for that
long without scoffing the lot?

Pat the mixture into 5 cm by

1 cm circles, place on the
baking tray and cook in the oven for
10 minutes. Leave to cool and make
the icing.

DIY: BUTTON RINGS

ACCORDING TO FRIEDA FLIEGENPILZ: WHO NEEDS DIAMONDS WHEN THERE ARE BUTTONS? THE DAWANDA SELLER AND AVID BLOGGER
(LINK: HTTP://FRIEDAFLIEGENPILZ.BLOGSPOT.DE/) PROVES THAT BUTTONS REALLY ARE A GIRLS BEST FRIEND WITH HER BUTTON RING TUTORIAL.
SO RESCUE YOUR SPARE BUTTONS FROM A DUSTY FATE IN YOUR BOTTOM DRAWER LET THEM LIVE ON AS FABULOUS PIECES OF JEWELLERY.

YOU WILL NEED:

Buttons Scissors Elastic cord
Thin plastic tube (at any
hardware store)
Measure a piece of tube that
fits around your finger and
then thread a piece of elastic cord,
thats about twice as long, through
the tube. Now take out your button
box and search for some that look
really good together. It looks great if
the middle button has a pronounced
curved rim, so the eyelet from the
top shank button is completely
covered.
1

Thread the elastic cord

through the buttons. Tie the
cord between the middle and top
buttons. Cut off any excess cord and
tuck the ends under the top button.
And youre done!

DIY: TISSUE PAPER POMPOMS

INA FROM THE BLOG WHAT INA LOVES SHOWS US HOW TO MAKE POMPOMS OUT OF TISSUE PAPER. NOT JUST FOR THE TOP OF YOUR WINTER HAT POMPOMS
MAKE PLAYFUL DECORATIONS FOR PARTIES, DINNER TABLES AND EVEN CAKES. TODAY INA SHOWS US HOW TO MAKE A WEE POM THAT WILL ADD A TOUCH OF
PLAYFUL POLISH TO THE NEXT GIFT YOU WRAP.

Fold the sheet of tissue paper

into rectangles which are
roughly the same size as you want
your pompom to be. Little pompoms
have a diameter of 45 cm, while
bigger ones are around 8 cm wide.
1

YOU WILL NEED:

sheet of tissue paper in your favourite colour
needle and thread
hot glue gun or double-sided sticky tape

Youll need about 20 layers of

tissue paper for a nicely fluffy
pompom. Now cut the rectangles into
circles of the same size. Make sure
the circles are centered on top of one
another and then sew them together,
exactly in the middle, using a needle
and thread. Now cut from the outside
of the circle towards the centre,
stopping short of the knot youve
sewn. Make about 10 cuts, equally
spaced around the circle.
2

Now start separating the sheets

of tissue from one another.
Pull up each cut section randomly at a
different angle to turn your pompom
into a fluffy ball. If you want to use the
pompom to decorate a gift, then only
fluff from one side, not both sides.
Then youll still have a flat surface on
one side, which you can glue to your
gift-wrap using hot glue or sticky tape.
