Introduction
My name is Kasey Medchill and I am currently enrolled in two summer (2014) classes at
The University of Texas at San Antonio. I am undergoing a business overview project for my
technical writing class. My professor, Robert Wilhite assigned each of his students to create a
real or imaginary enterprise. The examples Professor Wilhite gave to each of us were a bar, a
fashion retail store, a magazine, a restaurant, or a factory.
OurIndustry
My company is a for-profit company that operates with a non-profit subsidiary. The
company I decided to create is named Purify and we operate with a non-profit subsidiary, named
Friends to Purify. Purify is a retail and manufacturing industry that specializes in distribution of
water purifiers in our line-of-business. The Tom shoes enterprise has proven that this business
model can be successful while at the same time helping others.
OurProduct
The company designs tumbler cups that filter water as you drink it, then a Purify straw is
given to an impoverished child in developing companies. Purify is a portable water purifier that
prevents common waterborne diarrheal disease. Its water filtration not only provides safe
drinking water, but also positively impacts the health of the most vulnerable populations,
including young children, pregnant women and individuals with debilitated immune systems.

The portable tube design allows for easy access to safe and clean drinking water from sources
previously undrinkable. The tumbler has a filtration system within the cup itself and purifies the
water as a person is drinking through the straw.
GeographicalMarket
Our product gives us the ability to serve everyone worldwide. Our online market
capabilities have provided us with the ability to be recognized by anyone. Through our online
website, we also have the ability to receive donations from various groups and people. These
donations help Purify send supplementary filtration Purify straws to developing countries that do
not have clean water.
CustomerNeeds
The ability to have a source of clean water at all times is a privilege. Unfortunately, 783
million people do not have access to clean water and almost 2.5 billion do not have access to
adequate sanitation. According to the World Health Organization, waterborne diseases cause 1.4
million child deaths each year. It is reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention
that diarrhea is the second-largest killer of children under five, noting that the younger the child,
the greater their risk of life-threatening dehydration. Unsafe drinking water, sanitation, and poor
hygiene are among the top causes of death, worldwide. More children die from unclean drinking
water than from wars. The Purify straws can help change the lives of families across the globe.
Goals
In the next five years, we are hoping to have distributed over one billion Purify straws to
developing countries from donations and Purify tumbler purchases. Purify wants to help make a
change by saving another persons life just by giving as many people as possible the ability to
have fresh, clean water. The expected sales for our product after five years are expected to be
Medchill 3

about 1.3 billion dollars. This would put our profits at 65 million dollars. After five years I am
hoping to have Purify straws all throughout Haiti, Bangladesh, India, and Kenya. We will
continue to work on getting more and more Purify straws distributed. Purify is looking at
distributing to over sixty countries.
NeededFacilities
For facilities, we would only need one manufacturing factory for the Purify straw and
tumblers. Otherwise all sales are done through our online website and donations to our
subsidiary. Our capital we would need to start running our company would be $55,000. With this
money we would be able to get a location and all the machinery used to make this product. We
would be able to hire workers for various jobs. We would need about one hundred employees to
be in the highest productivity.
Difficulties
The difficulties Purify expects are competition with other companies who produce
purifying water bottles. This may lead to raising capital up by $10,000, but due to our non-profit
subsidiary and the donation of Purify straws this will be unlikely.
Partners
Purify will be run by four partners, which include a chief executive officer (CEO), a chief
operations officer (COO), a chief financial and operating officer (CFOO), and a chief marketing
officer (CMO). Each position is indispensable for Purify to function and to be productive. The
value a CEO brings to Purify is that they will be in charge of developing and implementing
strategies, making the major corporate decisions, and managing the overall operations and
resources of a company, and acting as the main point of communication between the board of
directors and the corporate operations. The COO will be responsible for managing the
Medchill 4

companys day-to-day operations and reporting all findings back to the CEO. The CFO will be
primarily responsible for managing the financial risks of the corporation. The CFO will be
responsible for financial planning and record keeping. The CMO will be responsible for
marketing activities in an organization.
FeaturesandBenefits
The quality of the Purify straw and tumbler is that it is extremely lightweight. The
convenient size and weight of the straw makes it easy for people to carry it with them at all
times. Our Purify product can filter at least 1,000 liters of contaminated water and removes a
minimum of 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria. Our Purify products do not require electric
power, batteries or replacement parts. This is beneficial to the consumer because they will
always get fresh, clean water. They will never have to worry about the battery dying and not
being able to get filtered water. This product will change your life and can save so many others
by being able to decrease the amount of people who do not have access to safe water. This straw
benefits the user by saving their own lives and saving a person across the globe.
