AND
ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

SRM UNIVERSITY
SRM NAGAR, KATTANKULATHUR 603 203
KANCHEEPURAM DISTRICT
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
came into existence in the year 1992-1993 as a key entity of SRM
Engineering College under the affiliation of University of Madras.
Since then there has been a consistent development in all spheres
including infrastructure facilities, staff development and student
development. The Programmed offered by the department under
the University of Madras were brought under the ambit of Anna
University from the year 2002.In addition to this the department
started offering postgraduate program M.E ( Power electronics
and drives) from 2002 -2003 under Anna University. From 2003-
2004 the department started functioning under SRM institute of
science and technology (Deemed University) and in the year 2004-
2005 department added one more post graduate program (M.
Tech Power systems) under its ambit. The department now offers
B. Tech (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), M. Tech - Power
electronics and drives, M.Tech - Power systems and Ph.D.
Programme.

Program accredited by ABET

The department has also
conducted a gamut of various
activities towards the development of the faculty and students
such as International Conferences, Symposia, Advanced
Training Programs, Workshops, Short Term Training
Programs and refreshers courses.

The department has a very active students' association
(EEEA) which organizes various social events, talks by guest
Speakers and Awareness Programs. The I EEE Student
Chapter functions very successfully in the department. The
Association has been arranging and motivated to take part
in various technical and extra-curricular activities in
national and international level.

Industries and Research Organizations. To supplement the
class room learning, students are motivated by exposing them
to industry environment through various modes such as
lectures by experts from industry, industrial visits and
industry based projects on a regular basis. The placement of
students of Electrical Engineering Program is about 88% in
core as wel l as ot her compani es t i l l now. Some of
t he industries/R&D organizations where students are placed
are: Vedanta, L&T, TCS, CTS, Wipro, HCL, I n f o s y s ,

Semester abroad Programme

ULTY

Qualified, experienced and committed faculty members
serve as the major motivating factor in the teaching
learning process. Faculty interacts with students through
multimedia presentations, seminars, term paper
presentations, handouts on courses, viva-voce during
practical classes, project review meetings and through
association activities.

To induce research thoughts in the minds of faculties,
the faculties are encouraged to do pilot projects which is funded
by the University. Appreciation and rewards are given to the
faculties for their research work like funded projects, paper
presentation in referred journals during every Teacher's day
celebration.
