Happy 4th of July to You!!

Summer has finally arrived, both

with the temperature and this week-
ends holiday. May this be a good time
for you to visit with your family and
friends. May God keep you safe in
your celebrations.

Thank you for your kind wishes in welcoming me
here to Christ the King. I am slowly getting into the differ-
ent happenings here in the parish. Your thoughtfulness is
appreciated. I will get the hang of it one day. Right
now, the big task for me at hand is to get out of the boxes
that I have and try to get to the normal way of life. It will
take awhile, but when I look back at where I was a week
ago, I do see progress.

During this summer time, I encourage you to look at
the beauty of what summer is; the trees, flowers, birds, and
the people out and about. Gods blessing comes in many
ways. May we not miss them this summer.
Gods peace..Fr. Jeff

through a job board on its webpage.

If you are an employer or work in Human Re-
sources you can post open positions to the job
board. Please contact Christine M. Kieta at
Christine.kieta@gmail.com if you are interested in
becoming an employer permitted to do so. You

Just In Case
Just in case you forgot how Bill and I look,
here is a memory shot for you. Bill and I
would just like to thank the parish council,
transition committee, staff and volunteers that
made our farewell a time to always
remember. The years we served at CTK will
give us insight and wisdom as we serve our
new parishes in the diocese of Joliet.
This picture shows that the Lords work is
never done alone, but with another person,
two by two, we serve the needs of the
community. Let us continue to pray for one
another.
Please support and love Fr. Jeff, as you have
loved and supported Bill and I over the years.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in

John 13:34-35
Reflecting on Gods Word
SETTING ASIDE THE WEAPONS OF WAR
Why, we might ask the prophet Zechariah today,
would God want to banish chariots and horses? The
answer follows: because they are used to violate God's
reign of peace, along with the warrior's bow. In the
days of Zechariah, chariots and horses were high-
priced items used only for war-making. They were the
aircraft carriers and nuclear missiles of his day. And
for his culture, which thought of any king as being a
military leader first and foremost, a king riding on a
lowly beast of burden to proclaim peace without
horses, chariots, and bows would have set his listeners
topsy-turvy.
This lowly, beast-riding king of peace, we believe,
was fulfilled in Jesus, gentle and humble of heart. In a
world torn by military strife often generated by differ-
ing religious views, and even in our own lives and
homes where we are often at "war" over the tiniest
things, we would do well to stop and consider to what
degree we are willing to be like that "king" whose
way of gentleness and humility is the way for us to
find rest for our weary souls. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Saint Martha

Just before Jesus final entry into Jerusa-
lem, his close friends, Martha, her sister,
Mary, and brother, Lazarus, entertained
Jesus at their home in Bethany (John 12:1
-8). Martha served, while Mary
anointed his feet. It is in the simple state-
ment, Martha served, that we recognize
Martha for her witness to stewardship.
She isnt a prolific evangelist, she doesnt
work miracles. She simply serves Jesus. Jesus may have been a
frequent visitor to Marthas home and perhaps this is one of the
reasons the Gospel of John reveals to us that Jesus loved Martha,
and her sister Mary, and Lazarus (11:5). This unique statement in
the Gospel informs us of the special relationship Jesus had with
Martha and her siblings. And, as another one of Jesus visits to
Marthas home affirms, Martha continues to be concerned that
Jesus be served. Like any good steward, hospitality was very im-
portant to Martha (Luke 10:38-42). What is most revealing about
Martha is on the occasion of the death of Lazarus (John 11:1-44).
Martha takes an active role, going out to meet Jesus to let him
know what happened to her brother while Mary stays at home.
Jesus assures her that Lazarus will be raised from the dead. With
courage and conviction, Martha confesses her deep faith in Jesus
Christ: I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.
Then Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection and the life; who-
ever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who
lives and believes in me will never die. When he asked Martha if
she believed this, she replied: Yes, Lord. I have come to believe
that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming
into the world. (John 11:24-27). The feast of Saint Martha, a
witness to service who confessed her faith in Jesus, is July 29. She
is the patron saint of homemakers, cooks, domestic workers, wait-
ers and waitresses, and hotel employees.
