KENTUCKY BASEBALL
Kentucky teams selected by Richard Skinner based on season
highlights, postseason performances and input from area coaches.
FIRST TEAM
Brayden Combs, Beechwood: The
sophomore third baseman/first base-
man/pitcher was a second-team all-
state selection by the Kentucky High
School Baseball Coaches Association
and helped lead the Tigers to the All
A Classic state championship before
suffering a season-ending wrist in-
jury in the title game. He hit .500 with
four homers and 29 RBI and has al-
ready committed to the University of
Kentucky.
Ethan Harrison, Dixie Heights: The
junior shortstop helped Dixie finish
as the No. 1-ranked team in the final
regular season Enquirer Northern
Kentucky coaches poll and to the
Ninth Region tournament semifinals
by hitting .500 with 30 runs scored, 15
RBI and 33 stolen bases. He was se-
lected third team all-state by the Ken-
tucky High School Baseball Coaches
Association.
Nick King, Dixie Heights: The sen-
ior pitcher/outfielder helped Dixie
finish as the No. 1-ranked team in the
final regular season Enquirer North-
ern Kentucky Coaches poll and to the
Ninth Region semifinals by going 8-0
with a 1.60 ERA and hitting .424 with
16 extra-base hits, 32 RBI and 21 runs
scored. He was selected honorable
mention all-state by the Kentucky
High School Baseball Coaches Associ-
ation.
Sean Lawrence, Simon Kenton: The
junior pitcher/infielder led the Pio-
neers to a state runner-up finish by
going 8-2 with a 1.14 ERA, 86 strike-
outs in 67 innings and holding oppos-
ing hitters to a .165 average and hit-
ting .314 with 27 RBI and 21 runs
scored. He earned the win in both the
Eighth Region semifinal and champi-
onship games and pitched a complete
game in a 5-2 loss to St. Xavier in the
state title game.
Cameron Ross, Conner: The senior
pitcher/center fielder was selected
first-team all-state by the Kentucky
High School Baseball Coaches Associ-
ation and helped the Cougars win the
Ninth Region championship and ad-
vance to the quarterfinals of the state
tournament by going 8-0 with a 1.47
ERA and 65 strikeouts in 47 innings
on the mound and hitting .376 with 13
doubles, two triples, 15 RBI, 43 runs
scored and 42 stolen bases.
Grant Schreiver, Covington Catho-
lic: The senior right fielder hit .390
with a .557 on-base percentage, had
eight doubles, two triples and five
homers among his 39 hits, drove in 29
runs, scored 39 runs and stole 22 bas-
es. He has signed with the University
of Louisville and was a first-team
all-state selection by the Kentucky
High School Baseball Coaches Associ-
ation.
Reed Spata, Scott: The senior short-
stop was selected second-team all-
state by the Kentucky High School
Baseball Coaches Association and
10th Region Player of the Year after
helping the Eagles win the 10th Re-
gion championship by hitting .518
with 50 runs scored, 32 RBI and 34
stolen bases. He has signed with the
University of the Cumberlands.
Jason Suchanek, Beechwood: The
senior pitcher/infielder helped Beech-
wood win the All A Classic state
championship by hitting .465 with 17
extra-base hits, a .553 on-base per-
centage, 32 runs and 20 RBI and serv-
ing as the teams No. 1 pitcher. He has
signed with Xavier University.
Nate Verst, Bishop Brossart: The
senior pitcher/infielder was selected
third team all-state by the Kentucky
High School Baseball Coaches Associ-
ation. He went 5-3 with a 2.63 ERA
and hit .432 with a .495 on-base per-
centage, a .543 slugging percentage,
23 runs scored and 22 RBI. He has
signed with Kentucky Wesleyan.
Jake Whitford, Highlands: The ju-
nior shortstop bounced back from an
injury that cost him the first few
weeks of the season to be selected
third-team all-state by the Kentucky
High School Baseball Coaches Associ-
ation after hitting .500 with a .530
on-base percentage, .764 slugging
percentage, three homers, 25 RBI and
21 runs scored.
SECOND TEAM
Hunter Dunn, Cooper: The senior
pitcher/shortstop hit .466 with a .533
on-base percentage, 12 doubles and 23
RBI. He went 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA and
51 strikeouts in 50 innings. He signed
with Eastern Kentucky.
Mason Forbes, Ryle: The senior
outfielder hit almost .400 with a .475
on-base percentage and was selected
a Division I first-team all-star by the
Northern Kentucky Baseball Coaches
Association.
Noah Galvin, Covington Catholic:
The junior second baseman was se-
lected a Division I first-team all-star
by the Northern Kentucky Baseball
Coaches Association. He helped the
Colonels advance to the Ninth Region
semifinals by hitting .352 with two
homers, a team-high 35 RBI and 34
runs scored.
Blake Gay, Scott: The senior catcher
helped the Eagles win the 10th Region
championship by hitting .442 with 36
RBI and going 11 for 18 with nine RBI
in six postseason games.
Jason Goe, Grant County: The junior
pitcher/first baseman/outfielder went
6-3 with two saves, a 2.14 ERA and 89
strikeouts in 50 innings on the mound
and hit .426 with a .507 on-base per-
centage, .670 slugging percentage, 15
doubles, three homers, 22 RBI and 23
runs scored. He was selected to the
Eighth Region all-star team.
Blake Hart, Conner: The senior
catcher helped Conner win the Ninth
Region title and advance to the quar-
terfinals of the state tournament by
hitting .377 with a .510 on-base per-
centage, 10 doubles, a triple, a homer,
34 RBI, 24 runs scored and throwing
out 21 of 42 runners attempting to
steal.
Will Heppler, Covington Catholic:
The sophomore designated hitter/first
baseman was selected a Division I
first-team all-star by the Northern
Kentucky Baseball Coaches Associa-
tion and helped the Colonels advance
to the Ninth Region semifinals by
hitting .432 with 27 RBI.
Christian Lohr, Walton-Verona: The
senior pitcher/third baseman was
selected third-team all-state by the
Kentucky High School Baseball
Coaches Association after going 3-4
with a 1.99 ERA and 41 strikeouts in
45 innings against the teams toughest
opponents and batting .421 with 19
RBI. He has signed with Trevecca
Nazerene.
Blaise Ostertag, Conner: The junior
pitcher/center fielder helped Conner
win the Ninth Region title by going
3-4 with a 2.10 ERA and 48 strikeouts
in 60 innings on the mound, including
pitching nine scoreless innings in the
regional tournament, and hitting .347
with a .502 on-base percentage, 10
doubles, two triples, 19 RBI and 29
runs scored.
Rex Rogers, St. Henry: The senior
shortstop helped the Crusaders ad-
vance to the Ninth Region tourna-
ment by hitting .432 with a .548 on-
base percentage, a .663 slugging per-
centage (thanks to 16 doubles and
three triples), 37 RBI and 33 runs
scored. He also appeared in six games
as a pitcher and didnt allow a run. He
has committed to Transylvania.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Trey Ganns, Boone County:
The senior left-handed pitcher and first baseman was selected North-
ern Kentucky Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year and
Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association first-team all-
state. He was 6-1 with a 1.70 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 51 innings and
pitched a perfect game. At the plate he hit .507 with three homers and
22 RBI. He signed with Northern Kentucky. THE ENQUIRER/CARA OWSLEY

THE YEAR
Brad Arlinghaus,
Conner; Jeff Trame,
Scott; Troy Roberts,
Simon Kenton: They
each led their teams
to surprising regional titles after none of their teams were ranked
in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches top 10 poll to start the
season. Arlinghaus (left) led Conner to the Ninth Region title and
the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Trame (center) led Scott
to the 10th Region title, its first regional title since 1988. Roberts led
Simon Kenton to the state tournament for the first time in school
history, where the Pioneers finished as runner-up.
