cable type choose the according cable gland. If you design the detector line as a stub
every detector has to be closed with the blind gland at the non used cable entry.

1.2

Calibration of DP60/64

Part of the commissionin of a gas detector is the calibration procedure. On a CC60 we define two types of calibration modes:
New calibration (or first cali- This is the calibration done when the detector is combration)
missioned for the first time or if a sensor has been
changed.
Recalibration
This is the procedure done every time you calibrate a
detector which has been already commissioned once,
until you change the sensor.
For a proper calibration following points have to be considered:
Calibration gas:
Flow rate:
Exposure to gas:

2.64% methane (CH4) in synthetic air = 60% LEL

0.5 1 l/min
1 min

If zero gas has to be used:

Zero gas:
Flow rate:
Exposure to gas:

Synthetic air (20% Oxygen O2 + 80% Nitrogen N2)

0.5 1 l/min
1 min

If you calibrate on a CC60 please note that you have to follow exactly the times given
above. If not, the CC60 wont accept the calibration.

1.2.1

New calibration (or first calibration)

Conditioning time:
Detector signal default (I0):
Minimum required signal increase:

at least 30 min
< 5 mA
5 mA

If a sensor cannot reach the minimum required signal increase it has to be changed.
With standard programming the CC60 unit doesnt allow to store the calibration data of
such a detector.
For special cases you can use the sensor code 99 (Tool G60 5min 2mA).

1) Because of the risk of poisoning of the Pellistor due to compounds contained in biogas, we recommend to use the DO6102 instead.

If another calibration gas is used or another application is requested please conctact CECH.

1.4

Change of the sensor

If the loss of signal since the commissioning day is >30% (means that the actual signal increase is <70% of the signal incrase at commissioning) than the sensor has to be replaced.
On sensor change you must execute a new calibration! On a CC60 you first have to
delete the old calibration data (with F4 160 > OFF) before starting the new calibration.

1.5
Life time
Positioning

Remarks to DP60/64

The sensor life time is reduced if lead, halogens, sulfur compounds or silicones affect the
sensor.
The mentioned indications are generally given. For special cases the positioning of the detector can vary. For cases of unclearness please contact your local gas specialist or
CECH.

2)

The programming of optoacoustical detectors on a CC60 is only possible starting from EpromVersion 5.18 (1.0518).
The values displayed on the units is always in per mil. This means that a value of 5 displayed corresponds to a concentration of 0.5% CO2. On a
CC64 the display of the % sign is confusing and should be ignored.
3)

If another calibration gas is used or another application is requested please conctact

CECH.

Remarks to DO61

Heavy vibrations and air movements can affect the detector signal (incorporated micrphone!). In such cases an appropriate cushion system has to be designed.
The DO6102 (HC) can not be used for the detection of Hydrogen (H2)!
The mentioned indications are generally given. For special cases the positioning of the detector can vary. For cases of unclearness please contact your local gas specialist or

the existing conditions. If you callibrate the sensors too early, the signal can drift and a
recalibration would be necessary.

3.2.2

Recalibration

If the deviation of the display of the concentration varies more than 10% you have to recalibrate the detector. At least, it is recommended to do such a recalibration every 12 month.

Up to Version 5.17 (1.0517), semiconductor detectors where programmed on a CC60 with code 99 (Tool: G60 5min 2mA)!
The values given are the values which have to be programmed on the unit. The corresponding concentration in ppm is given below.

Differing programmings have to be discussed with CECH.

Because of its nonlinearity a semiconductor sensor cannot display a quantitative value according to the concentration measured on site. The concentration displayed corresponds only at one point to the effective value on site (e.g. at the alarm point). We
recommend therefore to label only the thresholds Warning, Prealarm and Alarm without any mention to the concentration value.
Important: The displayed values are not ppms!
You can describe them better as scaling units or display units!

3.4

Change of the sensor

If the loss of signal since the commissioning day is >30% (means that the actual signal increase is <70% of the signal incrase at commissioning) than the sensor has to be replaced.
On sensor change you must execute a new calibration! On a CC60 you first have to
delete the old calibration data (with F4 160 > OFF) before starting the new calibration.

not approved for the application in Exzones. If such an application is required please contact CECH.

To keep the approvals the cable gland always has to be considered! Depending on the
cable type choose the according cable gland. If you design the detector line as a stub
every detector has to be closed with the blind gland at the non used cable entry
When assembling the sensor please be careful with the mounting of the sensor cell. It
can happen that if the sensor housing is closed, the caused vibrations can unplug the
sensor cell again and it drops out of the plug.

Calibration of DE60/64

Part of the commissionin of a gas detector is the calibration procedure. On a CC60 we define two types of calibration modes:
New calibration (or first cali- This is the calibration done when the detector is combration)
missioned for the first time or if a sensor has been
changed.
Recalibration
This is the procedure done every time you calibrate a
detector which has been already commissioned once,
until you change the sensor.
For the calibration of electrochemical sensors they can be divided into two different groups,
depending of the time of calibration needed:
for the first group following data is given:

above. If not, the CC60 wont accept the calibration.

4.2.1

New calibration (or first calibration)

Conditioning time:
Detector signal default (I0):
Minmum required signal increase:

at least 2 h
< 4 mA
2 mA for NH3 and ETOsensor
4 mA all other types

The conditioning time has to be kept.

Some sensors are delivered with a biasbattery on it. If this battery is low or missing,
the sensors have to be connected to a control unit for at least 48h. Do not start the calibration before the detector signal default (I0) is <4 mA.

4.2.3

Calibration of oxygen detectors (DE60/6421)

The calibration of oxygen sensors can be done as follow (see also drawing below):
D CC60
Oxygen displacement (O2removal)
After having started the calibration wait at least 1 min before applying the calibration
gas . Apply the calibration gas (nitrogen, N2) to the sensor for exactly 3 min .
When you program a oxygen detector for the monitoring of oxygen displacement its
very important that you program the sensor (and the bargraph) as invers (see also
section 4.3).
Oxygen increase monitoring (O2increase)
After you start the calibration apply the calibration gas (nitrogen) for at least 4 min
bevore you remove it for 3 min . After this 3 min you must reapply the calibration gas
(nitrogen) for at least 3 min !

Calibration factors for Exdetectors

As the use of these calibration factors affects the functioning of a gas warning system only a
trained person should work with it. For most of the applications standard programming is
sufficient. If there is a need to fulfill special requirements we recommend to contact the local
gas specialist or directly CECH.

The lists above contain only a selection of detectable substances. If you dont find the
requested substance on these lists it doesnt mean that the detector doesnt detect this
substance!
More informations can be given by local gas specialist or directly by CECH.

Use of calibration factors (exemples)

Calibration factors are used whenever a detector is calibrated not with the substance to
detect but with another type of gas, e.g. a reference gas. Cerberus uses 2.64% methane in
air (corresponding to 60% LEL) as reference (Kfactor = 1).
To calculate the correct calibration concentration to program you can use following formula
(all the concentrations are given in % LEL of the corresponding substances):
Concentration(calibration gas) * Kfactor(gas to detect) P Kfactor(calibration gas)

8.3.1
Exemple 1: Detection of hexane, calibration gas
methane (Cerberus reference gas)
If you have to calibrate a Pellistor (DP60/64) with 60% LEL methane for the detection of
hexane you have to program following concentration:
60% UEG * Kfactor(hexane) = 60% LEL * 2.5 = 150% LEL
This programming means, that 150% LEL hexane produce the same signal at the detector
as 60% LEL methane do. If you test for example such a sensor with 60% LEL methane you
will get a display of 150%. If you test it with 50% LEL hexane you will get also 50% displayed
( measuring error).

8.3.2
Exemple 2: Detection of hydrogen (H2), calibration gas
propane
If you calibrate a Pellistor (DP60/64) wtih 50% LEL propane to detect hydrogen (H2) you
have to program following concentration:
50% LEL * Kfactor(hydrogen) Kfactor(propane) =
50% LEL * 1.4 1.7 = 41% LEL
This means, that you need only (relative, related to %LEL) a concentration of 41% LEL of
hydrogen to get the same signal at the detector as with 50% LEL propane!

The proper calculation of the calibration concentration to program is very important as

it is neccessary for the correct functioning of the system. If there are any unclearnesses please contact your local gas specialist or CECH directly.

Glossary

The bias battery is used for the preconditioning of electrochemical sensors. Its battery supplies a bias current, preparing the sensor for the use at the shortest possible time. The sensors which require a conditioning period are normally delivered with this bias battery.
The period required to prepare an electrochemical sensor for use. The sensor must either
be connected to the unit while it is running, or be preconditioned by the bias battery
The current delivered by a gas detector, when no gas concentration is detected at the sensor.
The current delivered by a gas detector , when the calibration concentration is detected at
the sensor.
The Threshold Limit Value/Time Weighted Average is the concentration to which a person
can be exposed for eight hours a day (within a week of 40h) without danger to health.
The Short Term Exposure Limit is the concentration, which can not be exceeded for more
than 10 min for one time during a day.
Immediately dangerous to life or health
A person must not be exposed to the given concentration for more than 30 minutes.
The calibration factor can be used for calibration of gas detectors for flammable gases and
liquids. Because of the different cross sensitivity of the detectors the calibration factor is
used to set up those detectors according to the desired application.
