A Course of Study (CoS) is a component of the Training Manual (TM) used by Accredited Training Centers (ATC) of Department of Skills Development (DSD) when implementing their training programs. It is the bridge that links the expected performance objectives to a specified training program. It is intended to ensure the implementation of Malaysia Skills Certification System will be standardized among training providers to meet the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) requirement. The CoS developed will be used by trainers or module developers in developing their instructional materials or in DSD context is the Written Instructional Materials (WIM). CoS provides directions to module developers to meet the desired performance objectives. The CoS shall contain essential information on the objectives, and expected performance objectives. It will be used by module developers as a base on which to build units of instructions, classroom lessons, practical activities, and different level of assessments. The CoS shall also be prepared in the standard format and layout specified in this document.

INTRODUCTION This manual will serve as a guide to subject matter experts or curriculum specialists who is responsible for the development of the Course of Study for a specified program under the Department of Skills Development (DSD), Ministry of Human Resource Malaysia. This manual will provide curriculum specialists a general yet comprehensive guideline and expected components, format and layout of a Course of Study Package. The National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS) developed by the DSD will be used as the basis for developing the syllabus or content of the Course of Study. This manual together with the NOSS will be the main official reference to be used in the development of a Course of Study by curriculum specialists; so that the Course of Study developed will follow the general guidelines and standards expected by the DSD, being the authority of the Malaysias national skills programs. PURPOSE / USAGE A CoS Package will provide module developers or trainers with a guide and direction when preparing training materials or Written Instructional Materials (WIM) for a particular program. i. The CoS Package will contain information pertaining the job performance and competency requirements of a particular skill. ii. The CoS Package will contain information on the training programs to be conducted and the sequence of the learning, for a learner to achieve the skill competency required. iii. The CoS Package will contain a set of CoS which provides a comprehensive description on the knowledge to be delivered for each training module. iv. Each individual CoS will contain information pertaining to the mode and scope of coverage of knowledge to be delivered and the tasks to be performed. v. The CoS will assist trainers in course planning, training implementation, evaluation and monitoring the effectiveness of course delivery. vi. The CoS will provide guidelines to carry out assessment for understanding of knowledge delivered. vii. The CoS will provide guidelines to conduct assessment to determine competency achievement expected of trainees.
