MOMENT OF INERTIA OF A FLYWHEEL

AIM
The aim of this experiment is to measure the moment of inertia of a flywheel.
YOU WILL NEED
A heay flywheel mounte! on an axle on suita"le "earin#s A ruler $ernier %alipers A%%ess
to a "alan%e &et of slotte! masses Thin %or! &topwat%h
W'AT TO DO
&et up the apparatus as shown in the !ia#ram an! allow the wei#ht to fall a hei#ht h onto the
floor.
The len#th of twine fixe! to the small mass shoul! "e e(ual to h) the ori#inal hei#ht of the
small mass a"oe the #roun!.
Let the small mass fall an! measure the time *t+ it ta,es to hit the
#roun!. -ount the num"er of reolutions *n+ "efore the wei#ht hits
the #roun! an! the further num"er of reolutions *N+ "efore the
flywheel %omes to rest.
.epeat the pro%e!ure seeral times an! o"tain mean alues for all
(uantities. Measure the !iameter of the axle *!+ an! re%or! the mass
of the fallin# wei#ht *m+
ANALY&I& AND -ON-LU&ION&
