Magnet Hospital
The Center for Palliative Care (CPC) is a comprehensive,
inpatient palliative care service which was begun in
2005 at The Medical Center of Central Georgia. As a
Level I Trauma Center, Joint Commission certified Stroke
Center, and regional referral center, our 637-bed
organization maintains an abundance of critically and
chronically ill individuals. It is this population of adult
patients that has kept the Center for Palliative Care
growing with over 11,000 patients and families
impacted by our service over the last 6 years.
A proactive approach to completion of Advance
Directives for Healthcare including Living Will and
Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare.
Masters prepared counselors who aid in patient and
family education, advocacy, and counseling
interventions are prioritized based on levels that
range from mild to extensive and may include:
Discussion of guarded/poor prognosis.
Coordinating Physician/ Healthcare Team
meetings with families.
Education on Resuscitation options.
Counseling for anxiety or depression.
Anticipatory grief and crisis counseling.

Consultations may include:

Initial comprehensive assessment is usually
performed by a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse
Specialist, or Physician Assistant who collaborates
with board certified palliative physicians and the
attending doctor.
Management of Pain and Symptoms.
Education on normal progression of illness and
options for care.
Discussion of current goals of care and response
to acute care treatments.
Promotion of continuity between hospitalizations,
and on discharge to hospice or skilled nursing
facilities.
A 5-bed specialty unit where intense pain or
symptoms may be managed, patients and families can
be supported through the active dying phase, or life-
support measures may be with drawn.
INPATI ENT PALLI ATI VE
VISITATION OPTIONS AND FEE SCHEDULE:
Observational Experience Only:
For 1 staff to shadow a member of our team for up
to 8 hours:
Counselor = $25.00 / person
NP/CNS/PA = $50.00 / person
Palliative MD = $75.00/ person
Workshop (1/2 Day = 4 1/2 Hours)
From 26 staff, $250.00 TOTAL fee.
Workshop (1 Day = 9 Hours)
From 26 staff, $500.00 TOTAL fee and includes
lunch.
For more than 6 staff, an additional $25.00/ person
is required.
Recommended days for visitation include:
Tuesday or Friday 7:45am 12:15pm for 1/2 day
Tuesday or Friday 7:45am 5:15pm for 1 day
