conformada por dos trenes de procesamiento de un flujo multifsico. Entre los sistemas
que conforman a la Estacin Principal de Flujo se encuentra el Sistema de
Deshidratacin que est conformado por el tren de calentamiento, el Separador de Alta
Temperatura y el Deshidratador Electrosttico. En estos momentos la Estacin Principal
se encuentra recibiendo mayor cantidad de agua de la estimada originalmente, lo que ha
trado como consecuencia mayores volmenes de fluido multifsico a procesar y debido
a esto el tren de calentamiento ha tenido limitaciones para llevar el crudo a la
temperatura de operacin para el cual fue diseado. En la bsqueda por minimizar el
impacto negativo que ha trado el ascendente corte de agua se realizaron un conjunto de
pruebas que consistieron en evaluar la operacin de los siguientes procesos del Sistema
de Deshidratacin, como son: Deshidratadores Electrstaticos, Separador de Alta
Temperatura, Fluido-dinmica del Sistema de Deshidratacin, Intercambiadores de
calor ( de placas paralelas y de tubos y carcasa). En primer lugar se llevaron a cabo
toma de datos de variables de campo como presin y temperatura, as como tambin se
tomaron muestras de crudo
y agua en diferentes puntos de la Estacin. En segundo lugar se realizaron anlisis de

laboratorio para las muestras de crudo y agua para determinar diferentes propiedades y
composiciones, y finalmente, se realizaron anlisis computacionales de todos los datos.
Para los anlisis computacionales se construyeron simulaciones en Excel, as como
tambin anlisis de comportamientos de los procesos, anlisis grficos de distribucin
de composiciones y simulaciones en Pro/II. Para los Deshidratadores Electrostticos se
determin que existe una mejor deshidratacin, as como tambin se encontr que la
fase acuosa permanece ms baja dentro del equipo permitiendo beneficios operaciones
frente a los aumento de corte de agua. Para el Separador de Alta Temperatura se
encontr una mayor separacin de gas al aumentar la temperatura promedio del tren de
Precalentamiento. Con respecto a la Fluido-dinmica del Sistema de Deshidratacin se
hall que esta mejora al aumentar la temperatura promedio del tren de produccin
debido a que esta accin hace disminuir la cada de presin a travs del tren de
Produccin. Para los Intercambiadores de calor se hall en un primer lugar para los de
Tubos y Carcasa que su aprovechamiento se ha mantenido relativamente constante
desde su instalacin mientras que para los de Placas Paralelas ha disminuido
considerablemente ocasionado
por faltas de mantenimiento y el aumento en el corte de agua. Habiendo tomado en
cuenta todo lo anteriormente mostrado se elabor una propuesta para aumentar la
temperatura promedio del Sistema de Deshidratacin que consiste en incluir en el
sistema unos intercambiadores de calor que estn instalados pero fuera de servicio,
haciendo pasar a travs de ellos parte del agua que sales de los actuales
intercambiadores de tubos y carcasa, y pasar parte del crudo deshidratado que sale de
los Deshidratadores Electrostticos, con lo que se lograra una disminucin de 10C,
aproximadamente, en el crudo hacia exportacin.

INTRODUCCIN

CAPTULO I
INTRODUCCIN
En esta seccin se plantea el problema que justifica la realizacin de este trabajo, as
como los objetivos que orientan y delimitan el desarrollo del mismo. Igualmente se
enuncian reseas de estudios realizados los cuales incluyen aspectos sobre la
deshidratacin de crudos que son relevantes
para este estudio.

PLANTEAMIENTO DEL PROBLEMA Actualmente la Estacin Principal de Flujo de
la empresa Sincrudos de Oriente SINCOR, C.A., luego de cinco aos en operacin, se
encuentra en una situacin operacional diferente a las condiciones de diseo, por lo que
se ha visto en la necesidad de modificar ciertos rangos de operacin y cambiar en
algunos casos la Filosofa de Operacin y Control. La Estacin Principal est
conformada por dos trenes de procesamiento de un flujo multifsico (crudo diluido +
agua + gas), los cuales constan a su vez de cuatro sistemas bien definidos. Entre estos
sistemas se encuentra el Sistema de Deshidratacin que est conformado por el tren de
calentamiento (Horno, Intercambiadores de Placa, Intercambiadores de Tubo y
Carcasa), el Separador de Alta Temperatura (SAT) y el Deshidratador Electrosttico
(DEL). En estos momentos la Estacin Principal se encuentra recibiendo mayor
cantidad de agua de la estimada originalmente, lo que ha trado como consecuencia
mayores volmenes de fluido multifsico a procesar, debido a esto, el tren de
calentamiento ha tenido limitaciones para llevar el crudo a la temperatura de operacin
para el cual fue diseado.

En el caso del Separador de Alta Temperatura, la disminucin en la temperatura del
crudo afecta la separacin del gas, por lo que si se separa menos gas en
el SAT, el crudo no se logra llevar a la presin de vapor deseada, traducindose esto en
problemas mecnicos aguas abajo en la lnea de exportacin de crudo. En el caso del
Deshidratador Electrosttico, a menor temperatura en la corriente, segn lo que dicta la
Filosofa de Operacin y Control bajo la cual fue diseada la Estacin Principal, la
separacin agua/crudo se ve afectada, ya que la densidad del crudo no disminuye lo
requerido, por lo que ms trazas de crudo quedan atrapadas en la seccin del agua y son
arrastradas hasta la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Producidas (PTAP), lo cual afecta
su operacin, necesitando mayor mantenimiento y mayor cantidad de qumicos para
alcanzar las especificaciones para la disposicin de aguas, as como tambin afecta el
porcentaje de agua que queda atrapada en la corriente de crudo que luego ha de ser
exportada hacia el Mejorador de SINCOR, C.A. Por lo antes expuesto, surge la
necesidad de evaluar las condiciones operacionales del tren de deshidratacin para
identificar un esquema operacional que minimice el impacto negativo que actualmente
se presenta debido al alto corte de agua presente en la corriente de crudo producido.

OBJETIVOS GENERAL Evaluar y proponer mejoras operacionales para el Sistema de
Deshidratacin de Crudo de la Estacin Principal de Flujo de la empresa Sincrudos de
Oriente
SINCOR, C.A. ESPECFICOS


Evaluar el comportamiento operacional de los Deshidratadores Electrostticos debido a
los cambios de temperatura a la salida del tren de precalentamiento.



Analizar la separacin del gas asociado al flujo multifsico en el Separador de Alta
Temperatura, debido a los cambios de temperatura a la salida del tren de
precalentamiento.



Evaluar la fluido-dinmica en el Sistema de Deshidratacin frente a los cambios de
temperatura a la salida del tren de precalentamiento.



Analizar operacionalmente el tren de calentamiento conformado por los
intercambiadores de tubo y carcasa y los intercambiadores de placas.



Identificar las propuestas de mejora al Sistema de Deshidratacin de la Estacin
Principal de Flujo.

INTRODUCCIN

ANTECEDENTES Al-Otaibi (2001) investig experimentalmente el efecto de cinco
factores (velocidad de sedimentacin debido a la gravedad, la dosificacin de qumicos,
la inyeccin de agua fresca, el calentamiento del crudo y el mezclado) en la eficiencia
del proceso de deshidratacin y desalacin para un crudo Kuwaiti y un desemulsificador
comercial (Servo CC 3408). Los factores fueron sistemticamente variados y su
eficiencia analizada. Las eficiencias analizadas fueron la remocin de sal y la eficiencia
de reduccin del corte de agua. Las dos conclusiones ms relevantes
del estudio son primeramente que la excesiva dosificacin de desemulsificador tiene
efectos adversos en los procesos de deshidratacin y desalacin, segundo y como
conclusin ms importante es que la velocidad de sedimentacin es el factor ms
significativo a la hora de estimar ambas eficiencias. Perez y col. (2002) estudiaron
experimentalmente las variables que afectan a la rapidez de deshidratacin y desalacin
del crudo Maya en Mxico, al aplicar un campo elctrico de corriente continua. Para lo
cual construyeron un deshidratador en operacin por lotes, en el cual introdujeron dos
electrodos de cobre de geometra circular. Las variables que afectan a la deshidratacin
y desalado son: voltaje, concentracin de sal en fase acuosa, concentracin de
desemulsificante, porcentaje de agua emulsionada y temperatura. Todas esas variables
se agruparon en un modelo para estimar la velocidad de deshidratacin del crudo Maya
dando como resultado una estimacin de 10% de precisin con respecto a los datos
experimentales. Pekdemir y col. (2003) estudiaron las caractersticas de la
emulsificacin y la subsecuente separacin de emulsiones de agua en crudo utilizando
crudo proveniente de Norsk Hydro en Noruega. En particular, fueron considerados los
efectos de la presin, presencia de dixido de carbono y campo elctrico en la
demulsificacin de emulsiones de agua
en crudo. La separacin de las fases se evidenci al operar a altas presiones (>50bar),
sin embargo la sola aplicacin de la presin no es suficiente

cuando la emulsin es altamente estable. En estas pruebas se vari el tipo y la
concentracin de surfactantes sintticos as como la composicin de las fases agua y
aceite. Xia y col. (2004) presentaron datos experimentales para demostrar la influencia
de asfaltenos y resinas en la estabilidad y demulsificacin de emulsiones. Se encontr
que la estabilidad de la emulsin est relacionada con las concentraciones de asfaltenos
y resinas en el crudo y el estado de dispersin de los asfaltenos y resinas (molecular vs.
coloidal) fue crtica para la resistencia y rigidez de las pelculas interfaciales y, por lo
tanto, para la estabilidad de las emulsiones.

REVISIN BIBLIOGRFICA
En esta seccin se presenta el fundamento terico con respecto a emulsiones,
deshidratacin y estabilizacin del crudo, as tambin conceptos sobre

intercambiadores de calor y bombas de desplazamiento positivo. Esta informacin
respalda la metodologa experimental y procura apoyar las investigaciones realizadas.

EMULSIONES El agua y el aceite son esencialmente inmiscibles, por lo tanto, estos
dos lquidos coexisten como dos distintos.. El agua est lejos de
ser soluble en hidrocarburos saturados (por ejemplo: parafinas o alcanos) y la
solubilidad del agua decrece con el incremento del peso molecular de los hidrocarburos.

DEFINICIN Una emulsin es una suspensin cuasi-estable de finas gotas de un
lquido disperso en otro lquido. El lquido presente como pequeas gotas es la fase
dispersa o interna, mientras que el lquido que lo rodea es la fase continua o externa.

COMPONENTES DE UNA EMULSIN Existen tres requisitos para formar una
emulsin:


Dos lquidos inmiscibles. Suficiente agitacin para dispersar un lquido en pequeas
gotas. Un emulsificador para estabilizar las gotas dispersas.

Dos lquidos puros inmiscibles no pueden formar una emulsin estable, sin la presencia
de fuerzas estabilizadoras de la emulsin, pequeas gotas se unirn nuevamente y
decrecer el rea interfacial, la energa total de superficie y la energa libre de Gibbs del
sistema.

Una tercera sustancia o agente emulsificante debe estar presente para estabilizar la
emulsin. El tpico emulsificador es un agente activo de superficie o surfactante, el cual
es una sustancia qumica cuya estructura molecular le confiere una doble afinidad,
constituida por una parte polar (hidroflica) y otra no-polar (lipoflica), y que a su vez le
otorga actividad interfacial, absorbindose a una interfase
lquido lquido en forma orientada, disminuyendo as la tensin interfacial (MARFISI,
2004). En la Figura 1 se muestra la representacin usual de la estructura molecular de
un surfactante, aprecindose la doble afinidad polar y no-polar.

Entre las propiedades ms importantes de los surfactantes estn el carcter anffilo, es
decir, afinidad por las sustancias polares y no-polares; la capacidad de ubicarse en una
interfase segn el fenmeno de absorcin y la capacidad de asociacin entre s para
formar micelas (MARFISI, 2004). Las molculas de surfactantes se alinean ellas
mismas en la interfase polar hidroflica en la fase acuosa y en la no polar hidrofbica en
la fase aceite. Esta pelcula estabiliza la emulsin debido a las siguientes causas:

Reduce las fuerzas de tensin superficial que se requiere para la coalescencia de las
gotas.



Forman una barrera viscosa que inhibe la coalescencia de las gotas. Este tipo de pelcula
ha sido comparada como una envoltura plstica.



Si el surfactante es polar, alineado en la superficie de las gotas de agua, su carga
elctrica provoca que se repelan unas gotas con otras.

Un segundo mecanismo de estabilizacin
ocurre cuando los emulsificadores son partculas slidas muy finas. Para ser agentes
emulsificantes, las partculas slidas deben ser ms pequeas que las gotas suspendidas
y deben ser humedecidos por el aceite y el agua. Luego estas finas partculas slidas o
coloides (usualmente con surfactantes adheridos a su superficie) se colectan en la
superficie de la gota y forman una barrera fsica. Los agentes emulsificadores son
numerosos y pueden ser clasificados de la siguiente manera: Compuestos naturales de
superficie activa tales como asfaltenos y resinas conteniendo cidos orgnicos y bases,
cidos naftnicos, cidos carboxlicos, compuestos de sulfuro, fenoles, cresoles y otros
surfactantes naturales de alto peso molecular. Slidos finamente divididos, tales como
arena, arcilla, finos de formacin, esquistos, lodos de perforacin, fluidos para
estimulacin de pozos, incrustaciones minerales, compuestos de corrosin (por ejemplo
sulfuro de hierro, xidos), parafinas, asfaltenos precipitados. Los fluidos para
estimulacin de pozos son notablemente efectivos para formar emulsiones muy estables.

Qumicos aadidos tales como inhibidores de corrosin, biocidas, limpiadores,
surfactantes y agentes humectantes.

TIPOS DE EMULSIONES. (MARFISI, 2004) Los dos tipos de emulsiones agua-aceite
ms conocidos son aceite-en-agua
(O/W) y agua-en-aceite (W/O). Las emulsiones O/W se refieren a aceite disperso en el
agua y las emulsiones W/O se refieren a agua dispersa en el aceite. El tipo de emulsin
formada depende fundamentalmente del tipo de agentes emulsificantes. Una regla
emprica predice que surfactantes predominantemente solubles en aceite forman
emulsiones W/O y surfactantes solubles en agua producen emulsiones O/W. En los
campos petroleros las emulsiones agua en aceite (W/O) son llamadas emulsiones
regulares, mientras que las emulsiones aceite en el agua (O/W) son llamadas emulsiones
inversas. Esta clasificacin simple no siempre es adecuada, ya que emulsiones mltiples
o complejas (O/W/O W/O/W) tambin pueden ocurrir. Emulsiones del tipo O/W/O se
refieren a emulsiones consistentes en gotas de aceite dentro de gotas de agua que estn
dispersas en fase continua de aceite. Las emulsiones W/O/W tienen gotas de agua
dispersas en gotas de aceite que a su vez estn dispersas en fase continua de agua. El
presente trabajo se centra en emulsiones agua-en aceite, porque stas son las ms
comunes en el manejo de crudo. En las emulsiones regulares, la fase acuosa dispersa es
usualmente llamada agua y sedimento (SW) y la fase continua es aceite crudo. El SW es
principalmente agua salina; sin embargo, slidos tales como arena, lodos, carbonatos,
productos de corrosin y slidos
precipitados o disueltos se encuentran tambin presentes, por lo que SW tambin es
llamado agua y sedimento bsico (BSW). Las emulsiones regulares producidas pueden
ser clasificadas como duras y suaves. Por definicin una emulsin dura es muy estable y
difcil de romper,

principalmente porque las gotas dispersas son muy pequeas. Por otro lado, una
emulsin suave o dispersin es inestable y fcil de romper. En otras palabras, cuando un
gran nmero de gotas de agua de gran dimetro estn presentes, ellas a menudo se
separan fcilmente por la fuerza gravitacional. El agua que se separa en menos de cinco
minutos es llamada agua libre. En general, la cantidad de agua remanente emulsificada
vara de 60 % volumen. En los crudos ligeros (>20 API) las emulsiones contienen
tpicamente de 5 a 20 % volumen de agua, mientras que en los crudos pesados (3,5
Barg), la temperatura , si baja el flujo en la descarga y/o se detectan ruidos anormales en
el interior de la bomba): Incrementar la temperatura hasta el prximo valor de prueba.
g) Bajo NPSH de las P-3005 D/E/F. o En caso que el nivel de lquido del HTS
descienda hasta un 15%, con presin interna menor a 3.2 barg: Aumentar el flujo a
travs del tren Si esta accin altera las condiciones arriba monitoreadas (nivel del D-
3001B y P.desc. P-3001 C/D/F), aumentar la temperatura
hasta el prximo valor de prueba. De persistir estas condiciones, se normalizar la
operacin y se abortar la prueba. h) Condicin de la llama en los quemadores del H-
3001B, y temperatura de la chimenea (post-combustin) o En caso de que la llama del
horno presente una distancia muy grande del quemador, muestre un comportamiento
inestable (tiende a desviarse hacia los tubos) o se evidencie postcombustin
(temperatura de la chimenea o emisin de humo negro) Regular el punto de ajuste de la
temperatura del horno Cerrar uno o ambos bypass en los E-3003 G/H, segn sea el caso.
o De no alcanzar el target de temperatura, se trabajar a la mxima posible, siempre sin
alterar las condiciones de operacin normales del horno. i) Condicin imprevista o De
presentarse una condicin de operacin que no haya sido prevista en este protocolo:
Solventar la misma, an cuando dicha accin conlleve a una suspensin de la prueba.

Adicionalmente se anexan tambin las curvas de operacin correspondientes a cada una
de las bombas mencionadas anteriormente (P-3001, P-3005, P-3002), con la finalidad
de poder identificar claramente los limites operacionales de los mencionados equipos.
