IDOLATRY

May be surprising how much it encompasses

Exodus 20:3-5 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto
thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or
that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not
bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I YAHVEH thy God [am] a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth
[generation] of them that hate me;”
Whatever we put before El is is idolatry—El is jealous, will not be “number 2”

Exodus 32:6-8 (19,25-28) “And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt
offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink,
and rose up to play. And YAHVEH said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy
people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted [themselves]:
They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have
made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto,
and said, These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of
Egypt.”
Dancing naked around golden calf. Idolatry related to flesh, lusting exceedingly,
often lots of fornication, uncleanness, looseness. The fierce anger, Elohiym’s
attitude.—no mercy toward this sin

Numbers 25:1-8 “And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit
whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices
of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. And Israel
joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of YAHVEH was kindled against Israel.
And YAHVEH said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up
before YAHVEH against the sun, that the fierce anger of YAHVEH may be turned away
from Israel. And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that
were joined unto Baalpeor. And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and
brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight
of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who [were] weeping [before] the door
of the tabernacle of the congregation. And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the
son of Aaron the priest, saw [it], he rose up from among the congregation, and took a
javelin in his hand; And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both
of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague
was stayed from the children of Israel.”
Relationship between idolatry & flesh sin. Need to shake ourselves from these
seducing spirits. Take a stand against.

Deuteronomy 12:29-31 “When YAHVEH thy God shall cut off the nations from before
thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in
their land; Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that
they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods,
saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt
not do so unto the YAHVEH thy God: for every abomination to YAHVEH, which he
hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they
have burnt in the fire to their gods.”
Nations served. Idolatry is intimately and consistently related to flesh/sin. (Romans
1)
Deuteronomy 12:1-3 “These [are] the statutes and judgments, which ye shall
observe to do in the land, which YAHVEH God of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it,
all the days that ye live upon the earth. Ye shall utterly destroy all the places,
wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high
mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree: And ye shall overthrow
their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew
down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that
place.”
This should be our attitude—no mercy toward works of flesh in our own hearts. Tear
out any soft spot. For idolatry, looseness, unrighteousness, etc. Flee that spirit.

Psalm 106:14 (15) “But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the
desert.
15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.”
Lust – another form of idolatry (Numbers 11 weeping because of flesh) Spiritually,
getting their request didn’t profit them at all.

1 Corinthians 10:5-8 “But with many of them Elohiym was not well pleased: for they
were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the
intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters,
as [were] some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and
rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and
fell in one day three and twenty thousand.”
Examples for us (our desires should be to please Elohiym).

Psalm 73:25 “Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? and [there is] none upon earth
[that] I desire beside thee.”
Something to pray for—to desire El above all else. Love things of world—either don’t
have them, vexed; have them, no peace (If you love the things of this world, you
either don’t have them and are vexed, or have them and don’t have any peace). We
can stuff ourselves with Elohiym’s goodness.

Isaiah 2:8 “Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands,
that which their own fingers have made:”
Glorying in what they’ve done—idol.

Ezekiel 14:3 “Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put
the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by
them?”
Desires of their heart

Daniel 4:30,31 “The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built
for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my
majesty? While the word [was] in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven,
[saying], O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from
thee.”
Worshipping and glorifying self (kissing own hand). Need to instead desire to glorify
El for all He’s done.

Hosea 4:17 “Ephraim [is] joined to idols: let him alone.”

El is not going to chase souls forever.

1 John 2:15,16 “Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any
man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that [is] in the world,
the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the
Father, but is of the world.”
Glitter of the world—loving that will drive out love of El from us. All the things Yeshua

Colossians 3:2 “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Paul said covet best gifts: charity, wisdom, meekness—pray for those desires.
vs 5,6 “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication,
uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness,
which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the
children of disobedience:”
Covetousness is idolatry. Lust will never be satisfied.

Romans 16:18 “For they that are such serve not our Adonai Yeshua ha Mashiyach,
but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the
simple.”
Out for themselves

Philippians 3:18,19 “(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you
even weeping, [that they are] the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end [is]
destruction, whose God [is their] belly, and [whose] glory [is] in their shame, who
mind earthly things.)”
Enemies of Mashiyach. Don’t want to be in this place where flesh is in control.
Natural/symbolic – whatever bodies, lusts, flesh tells to do, obey, submit

Revelation 9:20,21 “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues
yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and
idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see,
nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor
of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”
How El sees it—what the world is doing/glorifying

Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and
murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have
their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second
death.”
El’s judgment, attitude toward that—fierce anger going to fall on idolators. Be of a
sober mind, not to partake—be solid, unshakeable, be severe against this as El is
severe.
