Let us serve Jesus present in the poor

Thanks God there are many parishioners who are involved in helping people in different needs.
There are many ministers of the Eucharist who weekly take Holy Communion to the homebound. They are
in charge of feeding people with the bread that comes down from Heaven. Also, there is a big number of
others, who once a week, feed many people by serving a variety of food at Saint Vincent of Paul. For
instance, in May, 2057 adults and 1960 children were fed which makes a total 924 families, and the
volunteer hours were 1000. We also have to count the spiritual works of mercy that many of you do by
teaching the faith, by counseling, by consoling and comforting people.
We all are poor and in need because we have to beg God everything we need. Poverty is not only
regarding material things. There are many people who may be materially rich but they yet may be spiritually
poor. The Catechism says: works of charity extends not only to material poverty but also to the many forms
of cultural and religious poverty (CCC#2444).
We should have this preferential love for the poor of any condition. This is a sign that we are living
as authentic Christians. The Catechism affirms: Those who are oppressed by poverty are the object of a
preferential love on the part of the Church which, since her origin and in spite of the failings of many of her
members, has not ceased to work for their relief, defense, and liberation through numerous works of charity
which remain indispensable always and everywhere (CCC #2448).
When we take care of people who are in any need God takes care of us. Mother Teresa said: Let us
insist more and more on raising funds of love, of kindness, of understanding, of peace. Money will come if
we seek first the Kingdom of God - the rest will be given. Any time we raise money we have to have this
principle in mind. Money will come if we focus on God and our neighbor. Sometimes first we wrongly
think on money and then on the glory of God. If something will be done for Gods glory we have to trust in
Gods help. Let us not worry about that. The main owner of the Parish is Jesus, we are only instruments.
Let us follow the spirit of the particular example given by Saint Rose of Lima, who, when her
mother reproached her for caring for the poor and the sick at home, said to her: When we serve the poor
and the sick, we serve Jesus. We must not fail to help our neighbors, because in them we serve Jesus.
I wish all of us share this same view and spirit.

Servir a Jess en los pobres
Gracias a Dios hay muchos parroquianos que estn comprometidos en la ayuda de personas en
diversas necesidades. Hay ministros de la Eucarista que semanalmente llevan la comunin a los enfermos:
ellos tienen la misin de llevar alimentar a la gente con el pan que baja del cielo. Tambin, hay otro
numeroso grupo de personas, en San Vicente de Paul, que una vez a la semana, dan comida a muchas
personas sirviendo una variedad de alimentos. Por ejemplo, en Mayo, 2057 adultos y 1960 nios recibieron
comida, lo cual hace un total de 924 familias, adems los voluntarios hicieron un total de 1000 horas de
servicio. Adems, tenemos que contar entre las obras de caridad que tantos parroquianos hacen
silenciosamente enseando la fe, consolando, dando consejos y confortando personas.
Todos nosotros, en cierto modo, somos pobres delante de Dios, pues tenemos que pedirle lo que
necesitamos. Pobreza no solo se entiende materialmente. Hay muchos pobres que pueden ser ricos
materialmente pero son pobres en sus almas. Dice el Catecismo: las obras de caridad se extienden no solo a
la pobreza material sino tambin a muchas formas de pobreza cultural y religiosa (CIC #2444).
Deberamos tener un amor preferencial por los pobres de cualquier condicin. Este es un signo que
estamos viviendo como autnticos cristianos. El Catecismo afirma: los oprimidos por la miseria son objeto
de un amor de preferencia por parte de la Iglesia, que, desde los orgenes, y a pesar de los fallos de muchos
de sus miembros, no ha cesado de trabajar para aliviarlos, defenderlos y liberarlos. Lo ha hecho mediante
innumerables obras de beneficencia, que siempre y en todo lugar continan siendo indispensables
Cuando nos preocupamos de personas que estn en cualquier necesidad, Dios se ocupa de nosotros.
La Madre Teresa deca: insistamos ms y ms en colectas de amor, de amabilidad, de comprensin, de paz.
La plata vendr si buscamos primero el Reino de Dios- lo demos se nos dar. Cada vez que hacemos
campaa para juntar dinero tenemos que tener en mente este principio. El dinero vendr si primero nos
enfocamos en Dios y en el prjimo. A veces, errneamente pensamos primero en el dinero y luego en la
Gloria de Dios. Si algo se va a hacer para gloria de Dios, debemos confiar que Dios nos ayudar. No nos
preocupemos o perdamos el sueo por ello. Jess es el dueo de la parroquia, nosotros somos solo
instrumentos.
Sigamos el espritu del ejemplo particular que dio Santa Rosa de Lima, quien, cuando su madre le
reprocho de cuidar a los pobres y enfermos en la casa, le dijo: cuando servimos a los pobres y enfermos,
servimos al mismo Jess. Nosotros no debemos faltar en la ayuda de nuestro prjimo, porque en ellos
servimos a Jess.
Ojala que todos nosotros tuviramos este punto de vista y este espritu con nuestro prjimo.
