Residence Hall Security

The Carlow Police Department is located on the main floor of Frances Warde Hall. Police officers are on
duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The front desk of the residence hall is staffed 24 hours a day. The
bottom level entrance of the residence halls can be accessed Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. - 9:00
p.m. After 9:00 p.m. all residents and guests must enter by the 3rd floor entrance. Exits other than the
main entrance/exit are locked from the inside and are alarmed.
Property Security
You should keep their rooms locked at all times. Do not leave cash, jewelry or other valuable items in the
open. If you notice anything or anyone unusual in the building, please report this immediately to a staff
member of a campus Police Officer. In the event that you are a victim or a theft, please notify the Campus
Police immediately.
Damages
Prior to moving in, all rooms were cleaned and checked for any damages. You are responsible for any
damage that may occur in your room and will be billed accordingly. University officials may enter a room
for health, safety, or welfare of residents, the performance of maintenance, or the enforcement of
University regulations.
Appliances
The operation and maintenance of electrical appliances are the full responsibility of the resident
resident. All electrical appliances must be kept in good working condition and are subject to inspection
by University employees. The University also reserves the right to confiscate unauthorized, dangerous,
electrical appliances.
General Rules: Each room is supplied with a microwave and refrigerator which is supplied through the
University. Residents are not permitted to bring additional microwaves or refrigerators into the
residence hall.
Cooking Appliances: Cooking appliances can ONLY be used in designated areas on each floor. Cooking is
prohibited in residence hall rooms.
Irons: Irons are permitted ONLY in laundry rooms.
Beauty Appliances: Hair dryers, curling irons, and straighteners are permitted (must always be
unplugged when not in use or when the resident is not in the room)
Unauthorized Appliances: Residents are not permitted to use the following appliances:
electric bedding
kerosene or electric heaters
Appliances with an open heating element

Appliances that produce grease

air conditioners
sun lamps
Octopus-type electric plugs
**The burning of candles and incense in the residence hall is strictly prohibited and will result in an
automatic $25.00 fine.**
Alcohol
Carlow University is a dry campus. No alcohol is permitted by any resident on university property; this
includes residents of legal age.

To access the Carlow University Wi-Fi all visitors must connect to the GUEST network. The
username and password can be found below. To get a faster connection, we recommend
using ETHERNET ports that are located in most rooms. Ethernet cords are available upon
request.

Laundry Rooms
Washers and Dryers are located on every floor. Each wing has 2 washers and 2 dryers. In
order to operate washing/drying machines, guest must obtain a laundry card. Laundry
cards are available in the Franny Caf located on the 3
rd
floor of Frances Ward Hall. Guest
must first pay $3.00 for the laundry card and then load money onto the card. It cost $1.25
to wash and dry.
Air Conditioning
All double and single rooms are equipped with window air conditioning units.
