SITES) REGULATIONS

B.5.2 Allowance for reflection of sound at a
building faade
When the sound level at a building faade is to
be estimated, an additional of 3 dB(A) should
be made to the value calculated for an open
space to allow for the effect of reflection of
sound from the faade. In situation where
multiple reflections occur immediately outside
a building due to several surrounding walls,
sound levels may be increased even further.
C.2 Control of noise from construction sites
The measurement of ambient noise level must be
carried out either prior to the start of the project, or if
the project has already commenced, during periods
when there is no noise producing activity being carried
out on the site in question.
The ambient noise levels should be measured over a
chosen period of time, say 12 h (from 0700 hrs to 1900
hrs or from 1900 hrs to 0700 hrs). The ambient noise
levels so obtained will give an indication of the current
noise status of the site prior to any construction
activity.
