What are the main reasons for building collapse?

Building collapse can be defined as abrupt and complete falling of the

building.
The main reasons for building collapse are_
Bad design
Faulty construction
Foundation failure
Extraordinary loads
Unexpected failure modes
Combination of causes.
Bad design means failure to take into account the loads intended to carry by
the structure, rong theories regarding designing and load bearing by
structures and improper usage of building materials ith considering its
features.
Faulty construction means the failure of the structure. This may be due to
the inferior !uality sand, sub standard steel, improper tightening of nuts
etc.
Foundation failure means failure of the foundation to carry the load.
"lthough the design and structure may be #ery good, but if the foundation
is not up to the mark it can result in the foundation failure and damage to
the building.
Extraordinary loads may be natural due to sno fall, shaking due to earth
!uakes, or may be due to strong inds or hurricane.
"nother reason for building collapse is due to hidden decay due to the
attack of termites, o#erloading because of men and animals, eight of rain
collected on the roof and because of the usage of substandard ra
materials.
For knowledge.
If the building is insured against building collapse, the collapse of the
building must be accidental due to earth quake or other natural forces, or
destruction due to activities of terrorists.(World trade trade centre
incident). Currentl building collapse occurred due to hidden deca of the
building is also entitled to claim insurance, on the interpretation that the
deterioration is unknown till the collapse.
Following reasons are not entitled to claim insurance, building collapse
due to ageing , wear and tear. etc.
How the buildings are classified as per the national Building
Code?
The classification of Buildings as per the $ational Building Code are
%esidential, Educational, &nstitutional, "ssembly, business, 'ercantile,
&ndustrial, (torage, )a*ardous. +,roup " to ,roup -..
!nder ground constructions such as railwa stations etc are not included
under the "ational #uilding Code, it is dealt separatel.
Write a note about the earth quake resistant construction of
buildings.
"n earth !uake is a sudden, rapid shaking of the earth by the breaking and
shifting of rock beneath the earth surface.
.(tructural construction plays an important role in the earth resistant
construction.
B&( has laid don certain standards for earth !uake resistant construction
it is under &( /012 3 /104. this deals ith the earth !uake resistant
construction of buildings, ele#ated structures, bridges and dams. B&( also
prepared a detailed map and di#ided our country into 5 seismic *ones.
The structural components used in the earth resistant construction are
shear alls, braced frames, moment resisting frames, diaphragms and
hori*ontal trusses.
