State-wise details of PG seats in the country

List of students admitted either in Government or Private Medical Colleges is not maintained at Central Government
level.

So far the Government Medical Colleges are concerned there is no provision of management quota. Management
quota in UG seats in Private Medical Colleges is governed by the judgement pronounced by Honble Supreme Court
in Civil (Appeal) 5041 of 2005 in P. A. Inamdar & Ors. Vs. State of Maharashtra & Ors. In case of PG seats in non-
Governmental institutions, fifty percent of the total seats are filled by the State Government or the authority appointed
by them and the remaining fifty per cent by the management of the institution on the basis of merit as per provisions of
Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000 of Medical Council of India.

This was stated by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in a written reply to the
Rajya Sabha today.
