1.1 Interaction Process
Actually, in the interaction process, the GGSN interacts with the CBP of the OCS.
Figure 1-1 shows the GPRS data charging process.

OCS: Online Charging System
CBP: Convergent Billing Point
PDP: Packet Data Protocol
ACK: Acknowledgement

The detailed process is as follows:
1. In case the customer want to use data service, GGSN will send CCR{initial} to CBP when
receive the PDP activate request message from MS.

2. When receiving CCR{initial}, CBP will do as follows:
l Authentication: whether customer has applied for data service.
l Authorization: the number' s state (whether his/her life cycle state and management state
is normal), balance state (whether his/her balance is enough).
l Reservation: after successful Authentication and Authorization, CBP will distribute
some service unit as quota according to the RSU in CCR{Initial}.
After that, CBP will return the CCA{Initial} message to response the result of
authentication, authorization and reservation.
3. The GGSN will return the correct message when receive the respond message CCA{Initial}
from CBP. So the PDP context will be activated accordingly.
4. By using this data service, the GGSN will trigger CCR{update} to CBP when the quota is
used up to the threshold, and CBP will charge the customer and make another reservation.
5. In the case the customer wants to end data service, GGSN sends CCR{terminate} to CBP.
6. The CBP will charge the customer accordingly and response CCA{terminate} to GGSN
to release this session.
7. At last the GGSN will deactivate PDP context.

Description In a CCR command, if CC-Request-Type is set to
EVENT_REQUEST, you can infer that the Requested_Action AVP
contains the requested action.
The Requested_Action AVP contains the following values:
l 0: DIRECT_DEBITING
Indicates to deduct the fee directly. To deduct the fee directly is
to deduct the mapping service units from the subscriber account
based on the information about the Requested-Service-Unit
AVP. The Granted-Service-Unit AVP in the CCA contains the
service units that need to be deducted. The service-related AVPs
can contain additional rating information.
l 1: REFUND_ACCOUNT
Indicates to refund. To refund is to add the mapping service units
to the subscriber account based on the information about the
Requested-Service-Unit AVP. The Granted-Service-Unit AVP
in the CCA contains the service units that need to be added. The
service-related AVPs can contain additional rating information.
l 2: CHECK_BALANCE
Indicates to check the balance. In this case, check only the balance
of the subscriber account. Do not perform any operations about
account credit reservation. In a CCA command, the result of
balance check is returned through the Balance-Result AVP.
l 3: PRICE_ENQUIRY
Indicates to query for the price. In this case, neither check the
account balance nor reserve the fee in an account. Instead, return
the price of the requested service through the Cost-Information
AVP in the CCA.

that an end user stops the service), the DCC server must deduct the
consumed amount from the subscriber account and cannot return a
new quota in the answer.
The Requested-Service-Unit AVP is an AVP group. The detailed
ABNF syntax is as follows:
Requested-Service-Unit ::= <AVP Header: 437>
