I belong to a low-income family and hence I am applying to financial aid at IIM, Bangalore.

My family
as such can never support my study expenses. I have invested in an under- construction flat in which
I still need to make a payment of above Rs. 11,00,000/- . I will apply for loan against this property
too. Hence financial aid from IIM Bangalore will reduce the loan burden on me. My savings are in
EPFO, which has certain limitations and conditions for withdrawal. As per my knowledge, I can
withdraw 50% of my savings i.e. a little less than Rs.2,00,000/- only. However, after how many years
i can withdraw from EPFO, that I am not Sure. Savings in MF are mainly in ELSS ( 3years lock in
period). Infra Bond has lock in of 5 years. So, in short if I don't get financial aid, my education loan
will be in the range of Rs. 17L to Rs. 18L. In that scenario, it will be next to impossible to avail loan
for under-construction flat in my name.

My parental home and some agricultural land are in the name of my grandmother. She is a widow
and has two sons and six daughters. She is of the view that property should be divided only after her
death. My father's share, as and when he gets it, might not be sufficient for mortgage against
education loan amount. Hence I can not provide mortgage to banks against education loan. I am the
first one from my family ever to do job and resigning from the job would have been a shock to
parents.

c) How can Shodh estimate the demand for economy housing in Bangalore?

I live in a nuclear family but I would prefer to live in a joint family. There are many advantages of
being in a joint family.
Joint family is like a nursery to teach social values. It helps to develop social values like co-
operation, sympathy, sacrifice, sharing and many more.
It provides social security to its members especially to the old, the kids, the unemployed persons,
the widow as well as the handicapped among them.
Then there is division of labour, people are not overburdened like in a nuclear family.
People in a nuclear family at some point of time will feel lonely which is not the case in the joint
family. You are always surrounded by your loved ones.
