2 Professional Learning
Candidates develop and implement technology-based professional learning that aligns to
state and national professional learning standards, integrates technology to support face-
to-face and online components, models principles of adult learning, and promotes best
practices in teaching, learning and assessment.
Reflection
The Technology Workshop was completed to design, develop, and deliver a one-hour
technology workshop for my school. This included a lesson plan, materials used and an
on-line component while using the ADD! steps in the design process. This Technology
Workshop was completed to inform the faculty of a new technology tool that was going
to be used to help the staff analy"e data to enhance instruction in their classrooms. The
Data#ink $%&& is an assessment tool that will be used to analy"e assessments for teachers
and provide them with data to change instruction in their classrooms to benefit all.
'tandard (.%, )rofessional #earning establishes the development and implementation
of technology-based professional learning that aligns to state and professional learning
standards, integrates technology to support face-to-face and online components. t also
models the principles of adult learning and promotes the best practices in teaching,
learning and assessment. This artifact demonstrates my ability to develop and
implement a technology tool that my school staff will be using for analy"ing data for
their students. State and national professional learning standards were used in the
Technology Workshop by my demonstration of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions
that effectively integrate technology into the teacher*s own teaching practice and by
collaboratively planning with the teachers in utili"ing the technology to improve
teaching, learning, and assessment. modeled the use of the data the teachers would be
receiving via e-mail from the Data#ink $%&& and how to break down the data to create
enhanced learning e+periences for their students. ,y creating this workshop, also
demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for creating, supporting and
managing effective digital learning environments. During the workshop, the teachers
watched the presentation that was created using )ower)oint and shown using a laptop
and pro-ector. The last standard that was used was demonstrating the knowledge, skills,
and dispositions to conduct needs assessments, developing technology-based professional
learning programs, and designing and implementing regular and rigorous program
evaluations to assess effectiveness and impact on student-learning. They teachers were
given ideas for how to use their skills to break down the data based on the needs of the
students in their classes to better assist them with teaching for mastery for all students.
.ne of the key components of the workshop was for me to integrate technology into the
workshop and therefore the teachers were able to see how they could in turn let the data
drive their instruction. . Face-to-face instruction as well as on-line learning was a
component in the workshop as the faculty was given the presentation in a faculty meeting
and then could access the /edia Center webpage and e-mail me with concerns they may
have. The principles for adult learning were adhered to as in the same way in all the
other )rofessional #earning that we do, we used a sign-in sheet for verification, and
teachers were given handouts, provided with a 0uestion and answer time, and then
completed an evaluation of the workshop. The enabling of the teachers to use the data
provided them once the assessments are graded to drive the instruction in their classroom.
'tudents can be grouped, re-taught, and reevaluated for mastery by using best practices
in teaching, learning, and assessment for all students.
Designing and presenting the Technology Workshop proved very valuable for me in that
felt the teachers were very enlightened with a new data tool that could enhance their
instruction and help them immensely with students that may be having difficulty. also
was afforded the opportunity of working afterward with the teachers that aren*t as tech
savvy as others and giving them the assurance that the most of the work was done for
them with the Data#ink and that they would only be ad-usting their instruction for what
fit their classroom best. gained confidence by doing the Workshop since speaking at a
faculty meeting is not my favorite thing to do.
)rofessional #earning is a portion of a teacher*s duties and responsibilities that is
sometimes looked upon as the least favorite. think this is something that can be changed
if we promote it in the right manner and let the teachers be a part of the process. ,y
demonstrating to the teachers that this was actually a technology tool that was going to
help them it was easier going into it on their part as they felt they were getting something
that they could actually take back to the classroom and use. !valuations proved that the
ma-ority viewed this workshop as a positive e+perience.
