The laser beam transmits the variable digitized image onto the photoreceptor drum. The
variable digitized data contain different values for each form printed. The laser beam isn't aimed

directly at the drum. It is aimed at the rotating multifacet mirror, with 8 to! faces, that scans the
beam across the face of the drum, turning on and off according to the digital information to
create one row of dots.
" motor, inside the drum, advances the drum for the ne#t line of the image to be written. The
drum is coated with a photoelectric substance that develops a positive or negative charge as the
laser beam writes on the drum.
The forms generator transmits the form format image into a mirror that reflects onto the
drum. The forms generator contains the data required for the image of the business form or
statement being produced on the printer.
Toner from the toner cartridge attaches to the charged image on the drum. The toner is
composed of small particles of an organic compound that is susceptible to static charge.
$aper enters the transfer station to receive toner. $aper is given a charge higher than the
image prior to entering the transfer station. The higher charge of the paper attracts the toner
from the drum. The paper with toner is transported over a preheated plate before entering the
heated fuser rollers.

The printed page is placed into the output tray.
The toner and the charge that remain after the drum passes through the transfer station are
removed. The discharge wire eliminates any remaining charge from the drum.
The sweeper removes any trace of toner remaining on the drum. The drum is now ready to
receive the ne#t image.
