YOUNG WATER PROFESSIONALS

Dear Young Water Professionals,

as Austrian YWP Representative and chair of the IWA YWP committee it is
a great pleasure to invite you to the first Austrian National Young Water
Professionals Conference in Vienna!
After the re-launch of the IWA YWP Programme in Beijing in 2006, the YWP
Programme has grown successfully in the last two and a half years. Thus,
the nationalisation of the YWP Programme is the next important step to
establish it on a regional level. Usually the implementation of a national
conference is a major step in achieving this goal!
This conference will provide us an excellent stage to meet, exchange experiences and
cooperate with each other to approach the prospective challenges in the water sector
together. I hope to see you in Vienna!
Katerina Ruzicka
Austrian YWP Representative, Chair of the IWA YWP Committee

YOUNG WATER PROFESSIONALS

About IWA & the IWA Young Water Professionals Programme

The International Water Association is a global network of water

professionals, spanning the continuum between research and practice and covering all
facets of the water cycle. Through IWA members collaborate to promote the development
and implementation of innovative and effective approaches to water management.
Having acknowledged that the water sector is facing unprecedented workforce challenges
with the age profile of workers been cited as a major cause for concern and the impending
loss of knowledge through the retirement of many of its leaders, IWA created the IWA
Young Water Professionals Programme to provide mechanisms to ensure that knowledge is
not lost upon the retirement of personnel.
The IWA YWP Programme provides a range of activities, services and initiatives to young
professionals and students in the water and wastewater sector under the age of 35. As well
as engaging with YWP, the YWP Programme also connects with employers, academic
institutions and other professional associations to ensure that the future needs of the sector
are understood and addressed and inter-generational dialogue is created to form links
between senior professionals of the sector and young professionals.
The Austrian Water and Waste Management Association - ÖWAV
Since 1909 the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association has
represented the entire Austrian water and waste management sectors.
The ÖWAV is a non profit organisation and is therefore considered an ”independent
counsellor” with the goal of achieving sustainable water, wastewater and waste management
objectives in Austria. ww.oewav.at

The Austrian Association for Gas and Water - ÖVGW

Since its founding in 1881, the Austrian Association for Gas and Water has
worked to promote the gas and water supply industries and associated sec-
tors in all matters of scientific research, technology, business and legislation. ÖVGW is a
non-profit organisation based upon voluntary membership. Of focal concern is ensuring that
research and development in matters of gas and water supply remain at the cutting edge of
science and technology. www.ovgw.at

The Venue provided by the Vienna Waterworks

In former times the Old
Installation Chamber
contained the equipment to
operate the Schmelz
reservoir. Due to the new
construction of this reservoir in the
Gablenzgasse in 1991, the new
Meiselmarkt shopping mall was built in
place of the old water reservoir and the
Old Installation Chamber became a
complete restored convention facility.
