Fairfield & Dew, call ahead to place order
There are those rare moments of seren-
dipity, where things just fall into place,
says lead singer Sean Teslar of The Wildfres,
the fagship band for Healthy Rhythm Music
Services of Fairfeld, Texas.
The three-member band, who describes
their music as Indie Folk, will perform their
frst headline concert this Friday, July 18th
at Healthy Rhythm Community Art Gallery on
the Freestone County courthouse square.
Serendipity may be an apt depiction of
how this group of musicians, which includes
Sean, along with Tayton Mahone and Linnea
Lippart, found each other, and were, subse-
quently, discovered by Gallery owner, Ken
Vail.
The three attend Navarro College in Corsi-
cana, Texas. Sean and Linnea met frst and
began to play music together. We were
just messing around with some covers in
between classes, says Linnea.
I blame one song on us meeting, says
Tayton, a cover of an Australian Indie band
called Boy & Bear. He stopped to talk with
the other two, and before long, the three
became band mates.
On the other hand, Vail was introduced to
the group by Navarro College art professor,
Jon Boles, while serving as a judge for an
art contest. Vail admired the poster art cre-
ated by Tayton, and then found out that the
college student was in a band.
Thirty seconds into their audition, I just
knew, says Vail.
At the time, the band mates had only been
together 5-1/2 months, but according to
Vail, it sounded as if they had been playing
together for years.
Sean Teslar plays acoustic guitar for the
group, sings lead and writes the songs for
The Wildfres repertoire. He began song-
writing at age 17, when a relationship
ended. It was very shallow in the begin-
ning, relates Sean.
Although he still fnds inspiration from love
and relationships, Sean feels his writing has
matured, since that frst attempt. The
focus is on lyrics -- telling a story, setting
a mood, he says. Once the words are in
place, the music is built around it.
It was the lyrics of his song Landlocked,
written for a friend who passed away, that
inspired Tayton to create the artwork that
brought The Wildfres to Healthy Rhythm
Music Services.
In fact, Vail was so impressed with Taytons
artwork, that he brought him onboard as
the sixteenth artist represented by Healthy
Rhythm Community Art Gallery.
Tayton Mahone creates artwork for the
group and plays the standup bass. Its a
big instrument, with a big stage presence,
he says.
The instrument is actually a recent study
for Tayton, who was a trombone player since
sixth grade. I read about it, and picked it
up, he says.
In fact, Tayton had only been playing the
standup bass about 3 or 4 days, when he
frst met his band mates. Yet, after hearing
a few of their songs, he immediately began
working out bass lines for them.
Tayton is currently dabbling in the banjo
and mandolin, hoping to eventually incor-
porate these instruments into the music of
The Wildfres.
Linnea Lippart is the female vocalist for
the group, singing mostly harmony and
some lead. We like a lot of harmony heavy
songs, she says, so it makes for a good ft.
Linnea has been singing in church since she
was about 10 years old, and
is a member of the choir at
Navarro College.
The three are native to
the area. Richland is Seans
hometown, although he
knows many people from
Corsicana. Tayton hails
from the small town of Mil-
dred. Linnea, originally
from Kentucky, has lived
in Kerens since she was 11
years old.
As The Wildfres continue
to perform together, their
main goal is creating music
that connects to people.
We want people to like us
because we create music
that speaks to them, says
Linnea.
Other goals, in working
with Healthy Rhythm Music
Services, include step-
ping up their equipment
game, recording an EP
of selected original songs,
and building up their fan
base through live performances.
Shout out to Ken [Vail] for the opportu-
nity! says Linnea.
Ken has opened doors and shown us roads
that we didnt know existed, adds Sean.
The Wildfres will perform on Friday, July
18th at Healthy Rhythm Community Art Gal-
lery. Wortham-based Southern Alternative
Rock band, The Pitchforks, will open.
Tickets are $5 in advance; $10 at the
door.
Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with the music
beginning at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited.
New 13 x 19 Gig Poster by Tayton Mahone
will be available for purchase during the
show.
