1. BACKGROUND
The Nelson Mandela African Institution Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has been established under
Tanzanias Universities Act No. 7 of 2005, and as part of a network of African Institutions of Science and
Technology (AISTs) in Sub-Saharan Africa. The NM-AIST envisions becoming a World-Class Institution of
Higher Learning dedicated to the pursuit and promotion of excellence in science and engineering, and their
applications for economic growth and sustainable development in Africa. The NM-AIST endeavors to
deliver and promote high quality and internationally competitive teaching and learning, research and
innovation, and public service in science, engineering and technology leveraging on entrepreneurship for
enhanced value addition to people and natural resources, with a view to stimulating, catalyzing and
promoting economic growth and sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has granted NM-AIST employment permits Ref. No.
BC.10/87/012/J/88 and Ref. No.BC.10/87/012/J/84 to employ 18 staff.

2. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACADEMIC POSITIONS
Applications for employment are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill 2 academic positions. The
required qualifications, salary scale, areas of specialization, and duties and responsibilities are as shown in
Table 1.

3. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADMINISTRATIVE AND TECHNICAL POSITIONS
Applications for employment are invited from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill 16 administrative and
technical positions. The required qualifications, salary scale, areas of specialization and duties and
responsibilities for Laboratory Technician are as shown in Table 2.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR AVAILABLE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF POSITIONS

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT II - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of University Degree in Accountancy or Advanced Diploma in Accountancy and has obtained a full CPA
(T)/ACCA or its equivalent with relevant working experience of at least five years in a reputable organization must be
registered with NBAA as Authorized Accountant and must be conversant with accounting package EPICOR.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Custodian of accountable documents
Authorizes appropriate payments within delegated powers
Preparing various financial reports and statements
Heads, if appointed a sub-section such as revenue, expenditure, Students Accounts, Budgets etc
Supervises staff in the respective section or sub-section
Maintains up to date financial information on revenue, expenditure etc
Performs any other duties as may from time to time be assigned to him/her by his/her supervisor

ACCOUNTANT - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of University Degree in Accountancy or Advanced Diploma in Accountancy, has obtained a full CPA (T)/ACCA or
its equivalent with relevant working experience of at least three years in a reputable organization must be conversant with
Accounting Package EPICOR

Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparing monthly trial balances and bank reconciliation statements
Maintaining records of debtors and creditors accurately and up-to-date
Checking the correctness of claims and retirements ensuring that they are supported with appropriate evidence
Correcting and approving internal audit reports and internal audit queries
Remits net salaries to the employees respective banks
Prepares monthly pay slips for each employee and keeping records and payroll register
Performs any other duties as may from time to time be assigned to him/her by his/her supervisor

COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER I - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of a University Degree in Journalism, or Mass Communication or Marketing or equivalent with communication at
least three years working experience in a reputable organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in facilitating and publicizing exhibitions, conferences, seminars, ceremonies etc
Assists in maintaining and displaying photographic records of major events
Assists in collecting public opinion, criticisms and complaints about the Institution
Assists in organizing of Institutions participation in internal and external exhibitions, trade fairs and similar events
Assists in collecting and sub-edits materials for radio programmes and the Institutions newsletter
Reports public criticism and complaints to ones superiors
Assists to develop mechanisms for Alumni to closely work with the Institution in fulfillment of its mission
Performing any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned his/her superiors

STUDENTS WELFARE OFFICER II - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of a University degree with a bias in Educational Psychology/Divinity or Social Welfare and Counseling.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the Dean of Students in Students Counseling and guidance in ones respective Hall of Residence
Assists in coordinating students cultural, recreational and sports activities
Assists in supervising the general election of the students government
Assists in handling students problems relating to accommodation, catering services etc
Assists in supervising all hostel residence meetings
Assists the Dean of Students in Students to take care of all hospitalized students
Assists the Dean of Students and Students to inspect cleanness of hostels of residence
Ensuring that students by-laws are adhered.
Performing any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned to him by ones reporting officer

CLINICAL OFFICER I - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of Diploma in Clinical Medicine and must have been registered with Tanganyika Medical Board (under Cap 409)
with at least three years working experience in a similar position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Practices general medicine and pediatrics
Assists in surgical procedure
Attends to Obstetrics and Gynaecological cases
Administers preventive Medicine
Attends general outpatient clinics
Performs any other Duties and Responsibilities which may be assigned by ones reporting

SENIOR IT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of Advanced Diploma Certificates in computer maintenance and repair from a recognized Institution plus working
experience of at least five years of full-time work as IT Systems Administrator.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Hardware
Analyses hardware and software problems and finds solutions
Manages storage media, copies of software and documentations of computer systems
Keeps records of systems inventories
Notifies users of network outages or other services impacting issues
Provides updates on repair progress and network status
Communicates with software and hardware vendors to request service regarding defective products
Software
Stores all media with copies of software and documentations of computer systems
Assists other staff in finding sources documentations and solutions for identified problems
Makes computations and prepare routine and special reports, tabulate and assemble complex fiscal, statistical
and related data
Advises operating and programming personnel of data entry problems in complex projects such as the design of
data format specification

SENIOR RECORDS MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT I - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of a Diploma in records management from a recognized Institute or University with computer literacy with at least
seven years working experience in a reputable organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Handling confidential matters
Preparing file indexes and other facilities that will enable the availability of information
Supervising Secretaries and Office Management Secretaries
Taking care all facilities and equipments under his/her charge
Supervising staff in the respective section or sub-section
Performing any other Duties and Responsibilities which may be assigned by ones reporting officer

PERSONAL SECRETARY I - 2 POSITIONS

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience:
Holder of Diploma in Secretarial Studies plus 100/120 w.p.m shorthand in English or Kiswahili and 50 w.p.m typing,
tabulation and manuscript stage III, and who has completed advanced Computer Course from a recognized Institution
with at least three years working experience from a reputable organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Typing and printing letters, minutes, notices, bulletins, circulars, certificates, charts and stencils

Taking proper care of all machines under his/her charge and makes sure they are used for official work only
Filing copies of typed letters in relevant files
Receiving and directing visitors
Attending telephone calls and takes messages
Performing any other Duties and Responsibilities assigned by ones reporting officer

LIBRARY ASSISTANT II - 3 POSITIONS

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience
Holder of a Diploma in Library and Information Studies from a recognized Institution.

Duties and Responsibilities
Shelving and tidying the reading spaces
Performs library clerical duties
Issuing of books to readers
Receiving books from readers
Handling of simple enquiries from readers
Undergoes on the job training on library duties
Performing any other duties as assigned by the head of library

DRIVER I - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience
Holder of form Four or form Six Secondary Education with passes in Kiswahili and English with Trade Test Grade
II/Drivers Grade II certificate from a recognized Institution. Must have a valid Class C Driving Licence and working
experience of at least three years in a reputable organization

Duties and Responsibilities
Driving cars and buses as well as other motor machines
Ensuring that fuel, oil, water, tires and the general state of the car has been checked before use
Providing driving services to NM-AIST staff
Maintaining log book for each and every trip
Ensuring that the vehicle is serviced as planned
Carrying out small repairs if the vehicle breaks down
Performing any other duties as assigned to him by his supervisor.

OFFICE ATTENDANT II - 1 POSITION

Minimum Entry Qualifications and Experience
Holder of form four School Certificate with at least passes in English and Kiswahili plus a certificate in relevant field.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collecting all subject and personal files from the office of VC and DVCs and dispatch them to respective offices.
Assisting in receiving guests with courtesy and directing them accordingly to the intended destinations/offices.
Providing office support within the office environment to staff and guests in various wings.
Ensuring that the kitchen in wing C is kept clean throughout.
Doing any other duty assignedto you by your immediate supervisor
