Franklin was previously selected as a Midwest League (2010) and Southern League (2012) All-Star Games in 2012. Taylor was a California League All-Star last season with High Desert. This is the first All-Star Game selections for both Noriega and Kensing.
COACHING STAFF: Roy Howell is the 29th manager in Tacoma franchise history. Howell is in his third season coaching in the Mariners organization after two seasons as the hitting coach at Class-A Advanced High Desert. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at short- season Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02). Pitching coach Jaime Navarro, who is entering his 6th season with the Mariners organization, returns to the Rainiers after spending the last 3 seasons as the Mariners bullpen coach. MLB FUTURES ALL-STAR GAME
Seattle Mariners minor league infielder D.J. Peterson played for the U.S. squad, while outfielder Gabby Guerrero represented the World team in the 16th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 13 at Target Field in Minnepolis as part of All-Star weekend. Peterson started at 1B and in the 6th position in the lineup, going 1-for-2 with a double. Guerrero hit 7th as the World teams starting DH, going 0-for-2 at the plate.
The Mariners have had 31 selections to the Futures Game since its first began in 1999. Six players on the current 25-man roster (+DL) played in the Futures Game in the past: Robinson Cano (2003-04), Corey Hart (2002), Felix Hernandez (2004), Logan Morrison (2010), James Paxton (2011) and Michael Saunders (2007). Brad Miller was selected to the 2013 U.S. Team, but was unable to play due to his promotion to the Major League squad. Cano (All-Star: 2006, 2010-13, Futures Game: 2003 & 2004), Hart (All-Star: 2008 & 2010, Futures Game: 2002) and Hernandez (All-Star: 2009, 2011-13; Futures Game: 2004) are each one of 115 players to have competed in both the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which is now in its 16th year, features the top Minor League prospects competing in a nine-inning contest as part of Taco Bell All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team, which has won each of the last four contests, leads the all-time series, 9-6. The game will begin at 5:00 p.m. (ET)/4:00 p.m. (CT) and can be viewed live on MLB Network and MLB.com. Featured on MLB Network for the first time, the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will be called by Matt Vasgersian, Sean Casey and Heidi Watney, along with MLB.coms Jonathan Mayo.
