Globalization, centralization, and regulatory compliance are the key drivers for continued
ERP investment among large corporations. In the small and midsize business (SMB)
segment, which continues to outgrow the overall market, companies are buying new ERP
systems in response to new customer requirements and the desire to participate in the
global market.
Shown below are the revenues and estimates from ERP Applications from 2006 to 2011.
The graph shows an ever increasing trend which means that the ERP Applications market
is continuously growing at a fast rate and is also expected to grow further by a great extent.

According to a survey conducted by Gartner in 2008, the leading ERP brand in terms of
market share is SAP, followed by Oracle and Microsoft. The other players are all smaller
players having very less market shares. Infor has a market share of 2.9% of the total ERP
market. If we add up Baan, which was acquired by Infor, the total of Infor + Baan comes out
to be 5.2% of the total market.

Looking at the Indian scenario, the situation is still the same as far as the market leader and
the challenger are concerned. I.e. SAP and Oracle are leading the markets in India too. But
the point to be noted here is that Tally which is a product developed in India and mainly
used for accounting is holding quite a significant share in the Indian ERP market. And
another Indian ERP vendor Ramco is also in the list with a significant market share.
Infor only has a meager 2.75% market share in the Indian ERP market which is not a very
good sign.

2. Company Profiles
2.1 Baan
History
Founded in the Netherlands in 1978 by brothers, Jan and Paul Baan, Baan has dual
headquarters in Barneveld, The Netherlands and Reston, Virginia, United States of America.
Since 1995, the Company had significantly expanded its sales and service presence in North
America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
In June 2000, facing worsening financial difficulties, law suits and reporting seven
consecutive quarterly losses and bleak prospects, Baan was sold at a price of US$700
million to Invensys, a UK automation, controls, and process solutions group to become a
unit of its Software and Services Division. Laurens van der Tang was the president of this
unit. With the acquisition of Baan, Invensys's CEO Allen Yurko began to offer "Sensor to
Boardroom" solutions to customers.
In June 2003, after Allen Yurko stepped down, Invensys sold its Baan unit to SSA Global
Technologies for US$ 135 million.
Upon acquiring the Baan software, SSA renamed Baan as SSA ERP LN. In August 2005, SSA
Global released a new version of Baan, named SSA ERP LN 6.1. In May 2006, SSA was
acquired by Infor Global Solutions of Atlanta, which was a major ERP consolidator in the
market.

applications from a single view, helping to ensure that the Baan Company enterprise
application accurately reflects a company's most current organizational structure, business
practices and operational procedures.

flexible configuration.
6. Applications were isolated from the systems environment, enabling support of new
hardware, operating systems, databases, networks and user interfaces without any
modification to the application code and Microsft SQL Server
7. Baan supported popular Unix platforms as well as Microsoft NT, and was the first
solution provider in its class to earn the Designed for Microsoft® BackOffice' logo
certification. Products also support major relational database systems (Oracle, Informix,
DB2, Sybase)
Baan offered specific vertical industry solutions for aerospace and defense companies
engaging in multi-level projects and contracts. Baan's A&D offering included Baan Project
to enable the effective management of key functional business process areas. This unique,

Infor has acquired a lot of companies dealing in ERP software’s. Each of these acquired
companies had their own ERP packages. All these packages may need to talk to each other
if they are implemented in the same enterprise so there should be some arrangement by
which these different packages can communicate, which is in the form of Infor Open SOA.
With a huge Portfolio of solutions, there is a requirement to enable all these solutions to “talk” with
each other and with other third party software installed by the client. To enable this, Infor has come
out in 2007 with Infor Open SOA which helps the enterprise software vendor integrate its many
acquired product lines.
Infor Open SOA is based on an "event-driven" architecture, whereby end customers can deploy and
upgrade interoperable applications and software components with little or no disruption to other
enterprise systems. Infor's middleware is platform-independent by adhering to industry standards
such as the XML-based Open Applications Group Interoperability Standard (OAGIS). Customers are
able to create their own ecosystems of Infor and non-Infor software components, without having to
rip and replace systems to conform to proprietary middleware technology.
The main use of the Infor Open SOA lies in its ability to help customers enable their existing
software and systems to support greater reuse of software assets, interoperability among assets
and faster and more cost-effective adaptation.

setting trigger thresholds. The interactive alerts also allow you to drill directly into plan item
signals and execute an activity with a few simple clicks.
Page | 30
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
3. The homepage’s “day in the life” view includes a customizable workload area that
conveniently groups similar items requiring the user’s attention such as planned purchase,
production and distribution orders. The highly visible icons indicate the number of items that
require action and are colour-coded accordingly to the critical thresholds you apply.
Page | 31
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
4. Smartly organized links to sections and screens you frequently use, as well as quick recall of
the reports you access on a daily basis, makes the system extremely user friendly and easy to
navigate. All screens allow conditional formatting to call your attention to the information
that you need most allowing you to manage by exception.
Page | 32
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
5. For example, the Inventory Dashboard includes user defined conditional formatting that
highlights portions of the record, and offers the ability to drill down to see all the relevant
information attached to the item.
Page | 33
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
6. Infor builds upon its deep experience in manufacturing with advanced planning capabilities
that provide a holistic view of capacity and demand. The solution offers advanced Alternate
Material Planning capabilities that search the Bill of Material for Use Up and Alternative
Material for a component based on Bill of Material line and Sequence Number.
Page | 34
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
7. Additional advance planning tools within the application are highlighted on the master plan
screen. From one location, you can see a complete snapshot of demand, by item and by
facility. You can easily move from high-level planning right down to detail item planning for
Sales and Production Orders.
Page | 35
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
8. And for added flexibility, the fully integrated planning engine allows seamless access to
supply data from any sales order, and displays a hierarchical view of supply and demand
through its pegging capability.
Page | 36
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
9. Close the gap in your supply chain with Infor ERP LN’s planning workbench this powerful tool
displays all the production orders linked to a work centre and provides ready access to the
details of each production order, colour coded by the status of the operation. Drag and drop
scheduling further simplifies planning flow and increases the forecasting accuracy of your
enterprise.
Page | 37
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
10. With Infor ERP LN, you have the power to capture the configuration of an item as it
was manufactured, along with how it was maintained in the field. From purchasing to
production, you can quickly access a Production Order to view the as-built configuration for
an item.
Page | 38
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
11. This level of integration is critical for tracking serial number and corresponding
components throughout the sales and service side of the unit’s lifecycle. Utilizing the
serialized item dashboard, the user can recall the physical breakdown and a multilevel
genealogy of the item. Infor ERP LN tracks the items replaced on a given configuration in
the field, as well as their failure reason codes and unit up time.
Page | 39
Enterprise Resource Planning Group 6
12. Infor ERP LN fully supports aftermarket service through a variety of self-service
solution, like Frequently Asked Questions, a Troubleshooting Tool, and automated
