The Presidents massage: In April 2011I together with six amazing individuals started looking at what AIESEC Colombo South needs to grow bigger, better and stronger in the coming term (11/12). We ended up having three answers, Exchange growth, financial sustainability and growth in HR. The context was not easy, with a large Exchange and HR growth rate expected for the next year to while the local committee was financially unstable. But today, almost after 15 months, I could say We did it together!!! As the Local Committee President of Colombo South, I feel that I am absolutely lucky because of the fantastic team of six individuals. The six Local Committee Vice Presidents, whom I consider the best of the best, made me look good all the time. But at the same time, I have to say that leading a team of six fantastic individuals, truly was a challenging task. Over the past year we have more than 20 people who now know what it means to be responsible for leading a team, to lead their team toward success, and experience the learning that comes from the ups and downs of this journey. The incredible part is that most do this when they are only 21-23 years old. At the same time, AIESEC Colombo South succeeded to facilitate internships for more than 80 young people, whereas over the term we have a 200%+ growth of young people being able to live a life changing experience. The path which we have taken this year was challenging and courageous. It was not an easy one, but most importantly it was the right one to make AIESEC Colombo South bigger, better and stronger than ever before.

Executive Board of AIESEC Colombo South Local Committee 2011/2012
Im pleased to present our annual report for the year ending 30 th June 2012 along with the financial statements due to the solid fact that this year was the most progressive and most successful year for AIESEC Colombo South Local Committee in terms of performance and quality. So I can obviously forecast a progressive growth in this organization in Sri Lanka into the next few years yet to come. And even further it is vital the role of our local committee for the aforementioned growth as we were the largest contributor of this growth in the year ended which was as large as 42% out of national performance measures. In terms of international exchanges and finance we achieved the highest ever growth a local committee in AIESEC Sri Lanka was able to achieve hitherto. But being a not-for-profit organization Im happy to say that we were able to invest lots of money on building the quality of internships we offered for undergraduates from all around the world and also we invested a significant amount on member development as well. So there was a considerable growth in terms of both numbers and quality. Even further we were able to drive lots of larger scale projects where Expo Lanka Holdings Group partnered with us for the Global Earth Hour Campaign and a huge energy audit carried out by AIESEC in their group. And also we were able to expand our educational projects to rural areas like Trincomalee, Kalutara,Gampaha, Galle etc and also to Blind school. So it was a rule-breaking year for the local committee and this rapid growth initiated by the executive board backed by the proactive undergraduate member base in University of Moratuwa has laid a strong foundation for a sustainable future growth of AIESEC, the world largest youth run organization. Im an AIESECer ! CHARITH BADDAGE VICE PRESIDENT FINANCE Charith is from Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering department of University of Moratuwa and also a CIMA student who handles all the financial matters from book keeping to strategic high end decision making, financial controlling and also internal auditing.

The executive board of AIESEC Colombo south embarked on the challenge of taking CS to greater heights. Talking about Global Internship Program of Colombo South Local Committee, it was the greatest strength and the main income generator for Colombo South Local Committee when we took over the Executive Board. We needed to see a change in it and we knew it was only achievable through a fine member development and by retention through creating value adding opportunities. During the term 2011-2012 Global Internship Program partners grew in numbers and were highly content with the services provided by Colombo South Xcorp team (Global Internship Program initiative of Colombo South) followed by the membership gaining high corporate exposure. It was evident that there were issues related to few areas in the facilitating process which were addressed real time leading to a better experience for the interns. At the end of the term, AIESEC Colombo South was no longer driven through Global Internship Program, but with the contribution of all the other functions. It was the collective effort of the Colombo South Executive Board with the help of all the members of Colombo South Local Committee which made it possible to elevate the standards and financial stability at the end of the term. My gratitude and thank you goes out to all my Executive Board colleagues and above all to the dear members of AIESEC Colombo South who made our goals a reality. Im an AIESECer !

Having the vision of creating history in developing an exchange based culture, in order to take AIESEC CS to its next level, the Executive Body took oaths to fulfill it and most importantly, it was our duty to build up the next generation to carry out the high standards set, and as an EB we are quite satisfied with the achievements we have had throughout, despite of the small shortcomings, which actually made us more stronger as a team. Considering CS GCDP, let me first remind all of you of the situation we have had at the beginning of the term. Being encouraged with the fact that, CS GCDP is not as functioning as much as the other CS functions, and also when compared with that of other Local Committees, strong transformation was required, to regenerate the passion and motivation of the members. Having a target of 80, to be fulfilled at the end of the term, where we were heading towards it, with the members devoting all of their time and effort, for the development of CS GCDP, we successfully implemented projects such as Expo Lanka, Trinco Project, Blind School Project, Guru Gedara Project, Ayubowan China, etc.,which made the challenging target achievable. We were quite delighted of the fact that, we could hit the target in terms of raises, and it was a great achievement in the AIESEC history. The commitment of the members and their passion was a main contributor for this success, Today apart from all these things, I m so happy of the fact that CS GCDP is functioning better than ever, with the new team, who were more talented and enthusiastic than us. Finally, let me thank all of you, who made this dream a reality, and CS GCDP is not my function, it was our function, where each and every member (including EB) has contributed to the success of this function and hope in the future as well, such collaboration will be there throughout. Im an AIESECer ! NADIKA JAYASOORIYA VICE PRESIENT NON CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT Being a 3 rd year undergraduate from Civil Engineering Department of University of Moratuwa he is handling the community development projects in AIESEC. But in the recent past, he has broadened the scope of projects not only to community development, but to design projects having engineering aspects as well.

Outgoing Exchange in University of Moratuwa started its operations in a time when very small number of people seemed to think that it can be a reliable exchange generating function let alone revenue. Although the processes were already standardized and well documented implementation was poor due to many reasons internal to the university which were anyway beyond the control. Unreliable and uncertain university calendars, departmental programs etc. stood against planning and implementing a sound OGX strategy to achieve a considerable growth in outgoing exchange. Irrespective of these issues Cs OGX launched a new initiative to reach for affiliated universities which has a huge potential to provide competent exchange partners for our programs. Under this initiative we approached several private and Government Universities out of which Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) and University of Rajarata recorded significant results and success stories. We were not only able to provide life changing experiences to these students but also lay down a concrete foundation to increase our capacity in the future. This move made AIESEC Colombo South to be the first local committee with more than five successful OGX realizations achieved from an affiliated university within a term In terms of members and member retention OGX was not a popular option. We started the term with practically zero members and an inexperienced VP and were able to turn the table around producing two VPs and few team leaders towards the end of the term. Now the Colombo south OGX is a fully developed function operating with three completed and talented teams. Although the OGX couldnt achieve its exchange target we were able to add a new dimension and a proper foundation to the function. From a time where many seemed to think that OGX cannot retain members or cannot create revenue we changed the game for OGX with new missions and strategies. Our only hope is that OGX in Colombo south will continue to grow on the excellent platform we were able to create in the term 2011/2012. Im an AIESECer ! POORNA MOLLIGOODA VICE PRESIDENT OUTGOING EXCHANGES He is also from Civil Engineering Department and handling the function of providing internship opportunities for local undergraduates. He is successful in bringing this sector progressive in the recent months by sending undergraduates to different countries for different internships.

Our members are part of an exciting global network. They are able to contribute to a societal change while exploring their own vision for a positive impact on a society. The AIESEC in University of Moratuwa chapter was successfully expanded in to all three faculties in the University. And also AIESEC in University of Moratuwa provides international internship opportunities for the students in Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology[SLIIT] and the Rajarata University. The membership base of AIESEC in University of Moratuwa now[at the end of the term] exceeds 80. Members of AIESEC contribute their time towards facilitating the global internship program, engaging in leadership development activities and ultimately participating in an AIESEC internship themselves. AIESEC in University of Moratuwas membership consists of 16% female and 84% male students. Most members are between the ages of 19-24, including those who take on leadership roles. It has been a big challenge to uplift the information system and communication function in AIESEC Colombo South and initially it was a full time commitment toward this major task. But its really encouraging to say that we were able to do dramatic changes to the existing processes where I decided to rebrand Colombo South logo where everyone started to get that feeling of we are Colombo South (CS). And we became the first Local Committee in AIESEC Sri Lanka to launch a website in order to promote the portfolio of services we are offering to youth undergraduates and recently passed out graduates. And we launched a number of promotional campaigns in University of Moratuwa and SLIIT in order to convince the undergraduate the value of AIESEC and the experience that they can have by living in AIESEC. And we were publishing e-newsletters targeting youth undergraduates, corporate community and also the general public in order to get the required support for the projects that were carried out by us. And by seeing the upcoming youth generation of Colombo South Local Committee, I can confidently say that AIESEC will be more visible in the corporate sector, inter-university sector as well as among the general public within next two to three years of time similar to India, China, Poland, Brazil etc Im an AIESECer ! Performance report Membership When we start the term on July 2011, we had a vibrant active membership of about 25 and we were able to increase it up to 45 within the first month by pocket recruitment. And also we further increased the membership up to 75 by the end of December due to the increased capacity of the projects and programs that we had. And finally at the end of the term it was as high as 80 plus members and including the members who are participating in global exchange program, the number is 100+. This is mainly because we have expanded to IT faculty in University of Moratuwa for the 1 st time. So the overall development of the membership is 220% and also we are planning to increase the membership to 150 to 200 into the future. The main reason is that the newly amended goal of AIESEC international is to give an opportunity to each and every undergraduate to explore the leadership opportunities in themselves. So in line with that goal, AIESEC Colombo South has also decided to give more and more opportunity to our undergraduates to participate with the projects. And the strongest achievement in terms of membership is that we were able to expand our membership to IT faculty, Architecture faculty, Fashion designing department in University of Moratuwa and also to SLIIT, Rajarata University and also to Achievers Lanka Business School. This is the biggest expansion in terms of membership in AIESEC Sri Lanka in its history. But still our selection process is similar to that of a company where we select members after a series of interviews and selection assessments in order to get the members who are really passionate of developing themselves by engaging with AIESEC activities. The executive board with the management board is always committing towards the member training and improving the quality of the members considering it as their main priority. So it is in paramount importance to us to make sure that the membership is with the correct attitude so that the effort we are putting on their development will not go in vein. So the selection process is, interviews- induction selection training where the potential members can still have a idea of AIESEC projects even before they are selected.

Performance report Recruitment There were 3 main recruitments organized in order to make sure that the exact membership requirement is ready for the projects we have planned. The first recruitment was focused on getting the required membership for the initial projects we had in the beginning of the term & them we were able to give most of them the leadership experience at the next recruitment. In that recruitment we had about 30 new members and we were able to give about 15 leadership opportunities for the members we recruited earlier so that they would have the team management & planning experiences. The last recruitment was mainly focused on getting the members for the energy audit project we had. And also the future development programs for those members have already been drafted so that they will be having a career in AIESEC rather than just working for the sake of membership. And finally we expanded into IT faculty in order to have provided them an opportunity to explore their potential. So it was a success after recruiting 15 new members and started huge projects in big scale like Corp Hunt [refer Incoming Exchange-Corporate]. And also there are some members who have engaged with our international internship program from SLIIT, Rajarata University and Achievers Lanka Business School and with them the number of membership will exceed 100. Performance report Training We had arranged a series of workshops in developing the members in local committee level & also from the national & international level. International workshops were basically handled through online media internationally. - Session by Mr.Suchith Abewickrama This seminar like session was conducted by a past president of AIESEC Sri Lanka as well as AIESEC Thailand Mr.Suchith Abewickrama who is an alumnus of University of Moratuwa. This session was mainly focused on developing members in the scope of designing new projects and selling them to the community as well as to partners in order to raise funds. The participation was about 30 members and it was a very interactive session which was highly praised by the members. And the session was open for any undergraduate in the university irrespective of he/she being and AIESECer or not. - Session by Mr.Ashan Janebdeen Being the former president of AIESEC Sri Lanka, and also being a graduate student from University of Moratuwa, Mr.Ashan Janebdeen was continuously helping for the development of the skills of the members of AIESEC. This session was mainly focused on developing the PR skills and marketing skills of the membership which is a essential factor to learn in order to work together with corporate sector.

- Webinars This is a series of online classes organized by the AIESEC Sri Lanka member committee and the main idea of these classes is to educate the membership of the AIESEC core functioning such as how to approach corporate sector and raise partnerships, how to manage finance effectively, how to manage your members in a strategic way etc. Any member can join with these programs by an online network and ask questions and get the required knowledge for each functions of AIESEC. - Member committee national workshops Member committee of AIESEC Sri Lanka has organized a series of workshops to develop members in various functions in AIESEC. Mainly they were focused on giving the required pre-practice for members to approach to the outside parties in order to engage with projects & activities. There were simulations regarding corporate meetings, selling the internships to organizations, conducting effective interviews and member development planning, finance management etc.

The best performing awards were Mr.Panchal Abeysingha, Mr.Asiri Weerathunga, Mr.Thushan Dharmawardana and also there were about 10 more awards for the outperformance during the last two quarters. And also Asiri became the member of the month in AIESEC Sri Lanka once while Panchal,Thushan and Asiri bagged awards in National Conferences and also in bi-annual reviews in AIESEC Sri Lanka. The purpose of these award ceremonies is to recognize the active participation and outperforming activities. Performance report Leadership Development There is about 150% development in the number of leadership positions created by out committee with respect to the last term. And also we were able to create leadership opportunities for the newly selected members after an assessment of project designing. And also the experienced members were also given leadership positions of the key projects of AIESEC Colombo South. AIESEC is recruiting members and also provide them a career in AIESEC in order to go for leadership positions in the organization and the recruitment process is well planned for the above task. With the performance increase the leadership positions will also be going to increase in to the coming future of our local committee. Performance report - Internships Professional internship is the most intense learning experience that we offer and links together our global network. Each year, we provide over 60,000 members the challenging opportunity to live and work in a foreign country in areas of management, technology, education, and development internationally. As a local committee we were able to contribute by 83 student exchanges for the year ending 30 th June 2012 being the first local committee in AIESEC Sri Lankan history to reach this number. And the matched exchanges are 18,making the number of realizable exchanges for the year 101 which is a huge milestone. Mostly they are related to the incoming exchanges where foreign students come to Sri Lanka for work in different projects organized by AIESEC [More details are in the project column]. But there are significant

Performance report- Initiatives Projects The main intention of these projects organized by AIESEC is to make a positive impact to the society and making sure the members involved getting the experience of handling these projects. So almost every project is based on exchanges where we facilitate local AIESECers to engage with lots of foreign interns in their projects so that there will be wide global learning environment for all the participants. Professor Ajith joined the Chemical department in University of Moratuwa,SriLanka in1985 and was the former Head of Department. His research areas are on triple bottom line approach for the Chemical & Process industry, integrated solid waste management, anaerobic digestion systems, ICT in solid and hazardous waste management and process industry developments in Sri Lanka . Since 2010 he has been the staff advisor of AIESEC in University of Moratuwa and his contribution towards the success of this organization is enormous. For the energy audit project we carried out in 2012 was the best technical project in AIESEC in University of Moratuwa and it was also carried out with the guidance of Prof.Ajith De Alwis. And also for the increase in the number of outgoing exchanges, the influence of Prof.Ajith was directly caused where he needs to see a significant number of undergraduates to go for internships in other countries rather than creating opportunities for foreign graduates to have their internships in Sri Lanka. And we would like to make this opportunity to render out special thank for Prof.Ajith for the support that he has been rendering to us in the past.

Important Ratios: Revenue per LKR of Operating cost = 1.694 Exchange Revenue per LKR of Operating cost = 1.331 % of Annual profit change per unit % of Exchange revenue change = 3.094 % of non-exchange related revenue from the total = 23.2% Expenditure before LC fee and investments as a % of revenue = 65.21%
In terms of financial performance the Colombo South Local committee has reached to a highly stable platform with a 789.7% increment of annual net profit in comparison to the previous year. The ability to invest money in risky projects in order to make a positive impact to the society is very high with a strong internal reserve of 120 thousand LKR. The significant 23% contribution from non-exchange related function for the revenue is remarkable as it shows the stability of the Local Committee even at a time of few exchanges being done. Even though the expenditure consist of 65% of the total revenue being a non-for profit organization, we can clearly see that we have utilized that money on order to improve the quality of exchanges as the revenue for operating cost unit is little higher than the exchange revenue from unit operating cost. So the higher portion of revenue has been utilized for the development of internship quality. And the fact that the sensitivity of profit for the revenue is as higher as 3.094 emphasize that there is higher fixed cost portion in the total expenditure and this was mainly due to the investments on accommodations for international interns of AIESEC. The main reason to

have a 1000% plus operating expenditure increment is mainly due to the fact that higher investments in order to improve the aforementioned quality development of internship program. As we are a not-for-profit organization, we were not opt to invest a large amount of money on promotions and the increment of 242% of the promotional expense is well below than the overall growth of the other functions. Administration expense has increased by 360% in comparison to the last year and this in mainly due to the sudden expansion of the local committee. This can be justified by the commitment of the executive board to cover every penny of the voluntary members even at the times of liquidity issues. And also the significant factor is almost all the projects were ended with a positive balance and even the remaining projects are highly probable of ending up with a positive cash balance ensuring the excellent financial controlling and planning. The percentage of profit attributable to projects is as lower as 6% but according to accrual data, it is highly probable of it becoming 41% and it is a good indication of the fruitfulness of the huge projects. The current financial position is very stable and the organization can exist hibernated for about two years with the stable financial back ground. And the internal reserve ha assured the financial sustainability of the organization into the foreseeable future as well. Even though AIESEC maintains cash and bank balances of more than 100 thousand, it is mainly in order to avoid future liquidity issues as we are a organization which is rapidly developing and expanding in Sri Lanka and due to the expansion projects and social service projects we are carrying out. The future prospects of financial background are sound and the measures to reduce operating expenses are on the way with the newly elected executive board. The projects that are going to happen in future are also larger in scale and impactful in nature. The money we have earned through Global Internship Program and projects, had not only been utilized for the development of internships and the quality of the internship program, but we invested that money on training our dynamic member base and also to conduct workshops for their career development. We had initiated members development and planning programs in a similar scale to those of the national body of AIESEC Sri Lanka and it was a huge achievement. And also we were able to open a path for university undergraduates of University of Moratuwa to join with the projects initiated by AIESEC where we invested a lot of money on training them and give them to fullest experience being respectful to AIESEC vision of fulfilling the humankind potential. Finally the Colombo South was able to grab the Sustainable growth award for the year being the most sustainable local committee in AIESEC Sri Lanka which itself shows the stability of the organization. And the huge nearly 10 fold growth has opened the path for AIESEC to grow on the soil of Sri Lanka with a solid background it is having with a large number of corporate partners and well experienced leading body comprised of graduates and undergraduates of top 5 universities in Sri Lanka. And among them, AIESEC Colombo South based on University of Moratuwa has become a iconic oerformr in AIESEC Sri Lanka.
