Part II: Reflection

CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)

1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and
leadership from completing this field experience?

I administered a SWOT analysis for this assignment. I focused on the strengths and weaknesses of
Center Elementary School related to the NETS Essential Conditions. Being able to look at the
strengths, weaknesses, attitudes and beliefs allowed me to reflect upon where we are as a school
and where we need to be. I was able to communicate and collaborate with others about technology
usage at Center which led to discussions about technology usage.
2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you
be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the
language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)
An effective technology leader, or facilitator must have knowledge, skills and disposition
necessary to be a motivator for change. To be able to do this the leader must have a vision and an
end goal. It takes a strong background knowledge to reach the vision set. The leader also needs to
be objective in their perspective. I had to look at me, my colleagues and school to determine
strengths and weaknesses related to technology. I was able to look on from an outside perspective
which made me more insightful. I also learned that an effective leader shows enthusiasm and
excitement that will catch others attention and interest. When presenting this, I will present this
analysis with excitement! Stakeholder support will encourage or discourage the progress. I am
hoping it will enhance progress.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or
student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?
The work that went into creating the SWOT analysis directly impacts school improvement which
should increasingly impact student learning. Analyzing strengths and weaknesses of technology
use in the school allowed me to develop strategies that will continue to promote the strengths and
inspire improvement of the weakness. The information from the SWOT Analysis could be used
for an overall School Improvement Plan which directly impacts school improvement. If teachers
used the SWOT Analysis to improve technology practices, student learning will be impacted.
Impact can be assessed by looking at school performance indicators.
