THE EFFECT OF SEXUAL NETWORKING ON HIV TRANSMISSION
The following diagrams illustrate the spread of HIV through
two hypothetical populations, one in which long-term
concurrency is common and one in which serial monogamy
is the norm. They are arranged so that readers may thumb
through them, as with a ip-book. It is clear that HIV
transmission is much more rapid with concurrency (adapted
from diagrams by Stewart Parkinson, Population Services
International, taken from The Invisible Cure: Why we are
losing the ght against AIDS in Africa by Helen Epstein).
