MineSight 3D v4.0

Desktop Menu Reorganization in MineSight 3D

Items on the MS3D desktop menu have been reorganized into more intuitive groupings. Some old
menus are gone and some new menus have been created. There are three significant changes.
Items in the old Tools menu are now found under Geo Tools (geology), Eng Tools
(engineering), Utilities, or Viewer.
The old Compass menu has been renamed MineSight. This menu still has a Compass menu
item, but now you can also run many other programs from the MineSight suite such as Data
Analyst or Strategic Planner.
The old Database menu is now a submenu of Utilities.

Notice also that items under each menu have been more logically grouped and most have been
given unique mnemonic keys.

Function Consistency

Functions under the MineSight desktop menu are in the process of being made more consistent.
About half the functions have been upgraded in the v4.0 release. Upgrades will continue in future
versions of MineSight.

Some changes you will notice in the upgraded functions:

When a function is active, the function name is displayed in the desktop Function Field.
Better instructions and results are displayed in the Messages window along with messages
stating the function has started/ended.
If possible (depending on the function), you will be able to select and unselect multiple
elements for the function to work on. Ctrl-A will select all elements and Ctrl-U will unselect all
elements. Some dialogs will no longer have the Entire Selection toggle.
Selected elements will remain highlighted till operated on.
If the function has a dialog, there will be an Apply, a Preview, and a Reselect button, where
Reselect allows you to pick new elements for the function.

Drillhole Coding

New to MineSight 3D is the ability to code Drillholes from polygons. The Drillhole View properties
page now contains a coding option that is similar to the Model Coding function found in the Model
View Properties. The same geometry set can be used to code both Drillhole and Model Views.

MSCODE.EXE - Standalone Coding Engine

A new standalone coding engine has been added to MineSight, which gives the ability to externally
code Models and Drillholes. The user now can setup a Model or DH coding run in MineSight 3D
and save it to an external template file that can be run with the MSCODE.EXE standalone engine.
This is extremely useful when you want to run a scripted/automated coding function outside of
MineSight 3D.

Contour Tool Enhancements Grade Contouring

The Contour Tool in MineSight 3D is now able to contour grade values. With this new
enhancement, grade values from a 3DBM can be contoured along a bench level, section level, or
where a surface intersects each block. When contouring grade on a bench/section you can
optionally create contours following block outlines.

The Contour Tool can also contour data from a GSM, a GSF as well as Drillholes. Drillholes are
contoured along an elevation or where an interval spears a surface. With contours of grade values
along a surface, the result can be draped back onto the surface.

CONTOUR.EXE is available as a standalone engine, which provides for repetitive scripted
operation, external to MineSight 3D.

Underground Design Enhancements

A number of enhancements were made that improve MineSight 3D underground mine design
capability. These include:
Autoslicing around a looped development. Previous versions of MineSight 3D have not
properly handled a development that has a substantial curve in the shape, resulting in improperly
slicing development out of order. This has been fixed in MineSight 3D v4.0.
Smoothing in Attach Template Function. This function now provides an option to smooth
the resulting shape, resulting in more realistic transitions on tight angles in the final shape.
A new Drift Solid Tool has been added which gives a realistic shape when irregular wall,
pillar, back and sill survey shots are selected

Solid Expansion Tool

A new Tool has been added that lets you expand/contract an arbitrary shaped solid uniformly in all
directions. Future versions will include non-uniform expansion.

Plot Order Tool

This new option allows geometry types to be ordered preferentially in a plot. In previous versions,
ordering was available between different classes of MineSight objects (models, Drillholes,
geometry, etc.). Now, you can order a plot based on different types of geometry. For example,
text can now be made to always appear on top of polygon fill.

Solids in MSIP with GSM models

New with this version is the ability to mine solids as cuts in MSIP when using a GSM model. This
opens up numerous possibilities for GSM modeling and scheduling. Selection of solids for GSM
models is now done the same way as 3D block models. GSM plans are set up as before, including
the reporting of interburden and overburden. The default selection of seams for both 2D and 3D
cuts are the seams currently displayed in model properties. This function makes it possible to get
volumes for non-vertical pit walls in a GSM.

MineSight GRAIL v4.0

Highlights

A number of performance enhancements were made to MSGrail in both speed in data access, as
well as improved data transfer throughout the MSGrail modules. In addition, searchable
documentation was implemented in GRAILDOC.CHM.

Scripts
A number of scripts were added, or modified including:

minesight_info.py: report environment variables required for MineSight (3291).
em_material.py: List Objects associated with specific Material (6980).
Added sample script to illustrate the grail.ms3d.selectionbuffer module (7134).
Added sample script (em-project.py) to illustrate the grail.ms3d.project module (7126).

MineSight Activity Planner (MSAP) V1.5

The new MineSight Activity Planner (MSAP) is a new mine scheduling tool developed by Mintec.
MSAP is flexible enough that it may be used in either long or short range planning, but the
emphasis is currently on the latter. MSAP improves short-range mine planning by enabling the
mine planner to create plans in the level of detail required to prove that they are feasible,
practical, and executable.

The core tools in MSAP include a Planning Board for interactively scheduling resources, and a
Gantt chart for viewing activities and setting precedents between them. Mine Planners can define
whatever resources they wish to schedule, such as mining cuts, haul roads, stopes and
development, trucks, blast rigs, shovels, graders, front end loaders, drill jumbos, work crews and
so on. Each resource can be assigned as many attributes as the planner cares to track, e.g.
tonnages and grades for mining cuts and stopes, and operating costs and haul rates for trucks.
Once the resources have been scheduled to perform the desired activities, such as blasting,
drilling, loading and hauling the mining cuts in a desired sequence, and with specified equipment,
one can then view charts and reports showing how the resources were used, and how their
attributes varied in time. For instance, one could chart the overall average copper grade mined on
a daily basis, or perhaps the total operating cost of all trucks as a function of time.

Mining cut and other resource data can be imported from MineSight Interactive Planner (MSIP), as
well as from generic sources such as an Excel spreadsheet. Once a schedule has been generated in
MSAP, the results can be returned to MSIP and displayed in color coded form, e.g. one might color
code the month in which each stope was mined.

Known Issues

The following are known issues in MSAP v1.5:

1. If you are running Windows XP, and you wish to be able to import data from MSIP, you
must be sure that you have the latest Windows Installer, which is available with Windows Service
Pack 2. If you do not already have Service Pack 2, you can get the Windows Installer here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-
de776fd4138c&DisplayLang=en
2. Occasionally, on some computers, the Month label is absent from the Work Calendar
dialog. This appears to stem from a problem with some Third Party software that we are using,
and we are looking into a solution.
3. On some occasions when using the Planning Board, especially after a drag and drop, the
cursor icon will not reset properly.

MineSight Data Analyst (MSDA) v. 2.0

The release version for the 2007 Update is MineSight Data Analyst v2.0, which we shall refer to
here as simply MSDA 2.0. A large number of new tools and enhancements have been added
since the previous version of MSDA, and many bug fixes have been implemented. The most
significant new tools, enhancements and bug fixes to MSDA 2.0 since the 2006 update are as
follows:

New Tools:

1. Box Plot tool

specific to tool, e.g. when used with Indicator Variograms one can filter by cutoff grade
4. Chart Annotations and Legends
a. Annotations Box retains its position when window is resized
5. Workflow and GUI
a. Improved the process of defining the output file (used by all tools)
b. Improved the tab order in all dialogs
c. Disabled dialog items whenever they are not relevant (this was previously done in many
but all cases)
6. Other and Miscellaneous
a. All forms have a new, more modern look and feel similar to Windows XP
b. Added extensive forms validation (if you enter invalid string or number, a small red
warning circle is displayed; you can hover over it to get a tool tip which explains the problem)
c. Added a popup warning message when a Tool is about to overwrite an existing file or
files; you are given the option to overwrite Yes/Yes to All/No/No to All
d. Added default suffixes for the Application Filter (now you only need specify the filters, eg.

e. Added option to add Extended Metadata automatically as needed
f. Added Remember Answer option to most pop-up dialogs
g. Added Test Buttons to validate complicated input in a couple of places
h. Improved some of the default values in several tools
i. Implemented a new and much slicker Installer

Bug Fixes:

The following bugs from MSDA 1.0 have been fixed in MSDA 2.0:

1. MSDA could not reliably recognize the field data type when less than the full set of fields
was selected in DAS.
2. The variogram item label in the statistics page was not reliable (but the data itself was
fine).
3. Users could not edit a chart title to more than 80 characters.
4. The model range for exponential model was wrong in variogram programs.
5. Scatterplots could not handle negative correlation co-efficients.
6. MSDA could crash if user closed Job Queue when it was empty.
7. Lists of filters such as ROCK=1,2,3,4,5 could not contain embedded blanks.
8. MS Access files would occasionally remain locked after being read by MSDA.
9. The statistics annotation box on all tools would use the wrong metal for determining
numeric formats (ie. number of decimals, etc).
10. Field names in the Data Source could not be SQL or ODBC reserved words.
11. After changing the selected fields in DAS several times, MSDA tools would occasionally
read and use the wrong field.
12. Minor changes were required to support Windows Vista.
13. The Favorites feature in Custom Reports did not always work correctly.
14. The Custom Reports data item and filter item were occasionally wrong after the field
names selected in DAS were modified a few times.
15. Various messages and labels were not clear and have been revised.
16. Variogram 3D Set azimuth and dip per selected variogram was not correct in case of
negative dip (was out by 1 degree).
17. When adding a new structure in Variogram 3D, Manager, the initial values were
sometimes wrong, ie. they did not match the actual values in the model.
18. Variogram 3D azimuth window failed at 0, eg, 350 +/- 20 degree window, should be [330,
10], but we got [330, 0].
19. User is now warned if Custom Reports output file is locked, e.g. by Excel.
20. Tools would not run (ie. they would just do nothing) if a User clicked on Use Application
Filter but did not actually enter the filter value.
21. There were some problems evaluating complex SQL filters in DAS.
22. After moving and/or deleting a chart annotation box, MSDA could crash.

Known Issues

The following are known issues in MSDA 2.0:

1. In the Variogram 3D Modeler (VAR3D), if you toggle off the Min pairs field or the Max
h field, the existing values will be destroyed and placed with -1.
2. The Network Uninstaller program does not properly clean up after itself. Specifically, the
Uninstaller entry remains in the Windows Add/Remove list until it is closed and re-opened.
3. When setting cutoffs for Indicator Variogram using Auto Step feature, if the first cutoff is
0, it is ignored. Eg. if you specify 3 cutoffs starting at 0.0 and in steps of 0.1, it uses 0.1, 0.2, 0.3
rather than 0.0,0.1,0.2.
4. The individual box labels for the Box Plot program should be limited to 12 characters.
Currently you can enter > 12 characters, but the label will get truncated on the box plot.
5. The Variogram 3D Modeler (VAR3D) supports a maximum of 100 individual variograms.
VAR3D will not let you Add more than 100 variograms at one time. However, a bug in the program
lets you add more than 100 variograms altogether, e.g. add 75, then add 50 more. This can lead to
problems and should be avoided.
6. There may in certain instances be very small differences in quantile results for the Box Plot
Program vs. Custom Reports. This is due to slightly different techniques used to bin the data prior
to determining quantiles.

MineSight Strategic Planner v1.23

These release notes summarize the key additions and changes made since the December 2006
Intermediate Update Release Notes.

MineSight Strategic Planner (MSSP) is used to develop optimal mining schedules to the end-of-
mine life for open pit mines. Its main application is in long-term strategic planning. The schedule
produced summarizes by period:
The benches being mined in each active pushback
The ore, leach, stockpile and waste tonnages
The truck and shovel requirements
The revenues, fixed costs and variable costs
The amount of material placed on each active destination site

This period-by-period information is further processed into summary tables and used to calculate
a Net Present Value figure for the schedule. The period-by-period mining is selected to maximize
the Net Present Value for the schedule.

This release version is MineSight Strategic Planner V1.23.09 with interface revision date of
November 26, 2007 and engine program (M821V1) revision date of November 21, 2007.

Enhancements and bug fixes to Strategic Planner since V1.22.03

Waste blending between acid generating and acid neutralizing materials

Waste blending between two waste groups on tonnage basis

Period-end-map for destinations

Fixed a problem with not all benches being output in Assumption File reserve by phase list
when #of period exceeds maximum limit due to the limit of mining rate and vertical advances

Fixed an error with direct mill feed surge stockpile mining percent

Fixed a problem with predefined shovel fleet not being used for a phase when higher
priority truck fleet is available and is not loaded by the predefined shovel fleet

Fixed a problem with not allowing reading more than 32,767 lines of detailed cycle times

Fixed a problem with Sort of Define Destinations for vertical advance data

Enforced proper lift elevations for non-waste destinations when waste subzones are used.

Enhanced SP interface to be compatible with EXCEL 2007 and maintain compatibility with
EXCEL 2003.

Enabled "Read in PCF File" at all times.

If the option Use Truck, Shovel, Destinations on "Project Input Configuration" dialogue
is unchecked, always set the parameters for trucks, shovels, and destination capacities to pre-
defined default values for the engine program to execute.

For EXCEL reporting, properly include tons from type1 stockpile1 to the Total Tons
reported in the "Summary Mining Results" table. This also corrected the reported stripping ratio.

A major expansion to MineSight Strategic Planner (V1.3x) is underway. The 1st version of this
series, MineSight Strategic Planner V1.30-Beta is available on a requested trial basis.

Known Issues in Strategic Planner V1.23:

The option Reclaim All in dialogue Define Schedule Title/Options by Period should not
be used when option Mill ore split using a secondary stockpile in dialogue Run Options is
selected.

The user needs to pay attention to the schedule materials defined in a schedule project.
All schedule materials need to be defined via the dialogue Standard Report Header Options. For
example, if you have two waste types waste and overburden - and you only define a header for
one waste type, this may cause a program setup problem or an empty report header for waste
type 2.

To reclaim from secondary Type 2 mill ore stockpiles, one must request to reclaim from
secondary Type 1 mill ore stockpile as well even just a tiny amount.

In dialogue Run Options, in frame Rank phases by economics, the choice A For all
phases is not implemented.

Variable mining cost by phase by bench by material type (cost class) will be available
starting with V1.3x series.

Standard reporting of fuel consumption and unit cost will be available starting with V1.3x
series

Enhancements and Fixes that have been made which, at the time of this release, are still in testing:

Omit reporting STOCKPILE MATERIAL STORED for surge stockpile usage when all mined
mill ore materials are to be processed in a period because Process all the mined materials option
is checked on Define Target Constraints dialogue.

Fixed a problem with ranking of phases by economics having no impact when all phases
coming from one block model but more than one block models are defined

Known Problems:

Users who run MineSight on Windows Vista: this operating system includes an
executable, clip.exe which has the same name as one of the Standalone Engines that Mintec
distributes. The existence of two executables with the same name can cause conflicts. If your site
makes use of Mintecs version of clip.exe, please contact Mintec Technical Support for help with
your questions or concerns.
Survey to AGDM importer does not properly process single quotes/apostrophe (bug 5843).
GeoMap editor will crash if material used for any lines and .or symbols has Line labels by
Object Name toggled ON (bug 8209).
The functions Polyline->Clip Polylines, Polyline->Intersect Polygons, Polyline->Self-
Intersect Polylines do not work with geometry View Objects (bug 6620).
Context-sensitive help gets the user to the helpdoc page, but not to the bookmark (bug
6931).
Using IE7 in Windows Vista there are problems when trying to display the MS3D helpdoc
from inside MS3D. Fix is expected in v.4.00-01. In the meantime, create a desktop shortcut that
points to the ms3d.htm file for easy access (bug 8037).
Using Netscape v.7.1 and greater, context-sensitive help can cause MS3D to exit
unexpectedly (bug 8262).
Creating a compressed model without selecting a block definition file causes a crash (bug
8266).
When coding a model from Polygons using the CODE by majority code option and code
as waste option, MSCODE.EXE will code as ore (bug 8268).
MS3D (Contour Tool) contour DH View (on elevation) that has items that are not loaded,
results in contouring the wrong item (bug 8271).

Appendix C

MineSight Installation Instructions

This CD can be used to UPDATE or make a NEW installation of MineSight. As an UPDATE, existing
files are overwritten if they match files on the CD. New files are added to the directories and old
files with no matching CD files are left untouched. As a NEW installation, all MineSight files will
be written into the selected directory.

====================== I N S T R U C T I O N S ======================

In order for all installation options to work properly you will need to log on as a user that has
permissions to install software and system drivers. This will generally be a user with Administrator
permissions.

BACKUP your existing MineSight installation. Do this especially if you intend to install over a
previous version as certain outdated folders (such as \Dipper, \Helpdoc, \graildoc) will be cleared
before installing the newer folders.

CHECK YOUR DISK SPACE. NEW installations require a total of 1020 MB of disk space. UPDATE
installations require less disk space since previously installed files are not added but rather
updated.

SAVE SITE-SPECIFIC FILES. Skip this step if you are making a NEW installation. Otherwise, if you
have site-specific files (e.g., plot.inf, digit.inf, medlist.bat) copy them to a save directory.

START THE INSTALLATION. Normally, simply loading the CD will automatically start the
installation. The installation can also be started in any of the following ways:

Click Start, click Run, and enter d:\install\setup.
From Windows Explorer: double click on file d:\install\setup
From DOS: at the command prompt, enter d:\install\setup.

where d: is your specific CD drive containing the CD.

Click the Next button on the Welcome Screen. Read the License Agreement carefully and click Yes
only if you accept the terms. Next, the Information Screen is displayed. Text on the Information
Screen also appears as file, \install\ReadMe.txt on the CD. Click the Next button to get past the
Information Screen.

The next screen allows you to perform one of several different setups. The "Typical" setup installs
all MineSight program products except Visualizer and Strategic Planner. The "Custom" setup
allows you to include MineSight Visualizer and MineSight Strategic Planner and to omit from the
installation certain program products, optional files, or online documentation. The "Visualizer"
setup installs only the MineSight Visualizer program and online documentation.

The "Network Client Installation" is only for installing system files, shortcuts and registry settings
on a network client machine. Prior to selecting this setup type, you must have already performed
an installation on the server machine using any of the other setup types.

If you are performing a "Network Client Installation", you will be asked to click Browse to locate
and select the network server's MineSight folder. You will be required to first map a drive letter
to the server before using the browser as this will affect the execution of MineSight.

Next, the install program will ask for the drive and directory in which to install MineSight if you
are performing a "Typical", "Custom" or "Visualizer" setup. If you want to change the default
installation directory, click the Browse button to select another drive and directory.

You will next be given a choice of a program folder in which to put the MineSight icons. The
default will be "MineSight", but you can rename this folder or choose to put the icons in an
already existing folder. The working directory set up for each of these icons will usually be C:\.

You will next be given a choice of where you wish to set environment variables. Setting the
environment variables in the User section is ideal for a single computer user. Setting these
variables in the System section allows multiple users of the same computer to use the same
System environment settings providing that these variable names are not also defined in the User
section. Should the same environment variable be defined in both sections, the User environment
variable will take precedence.

Clicking Next will start the actual installation process. After your chosen installation is complete, a
few things will occur in the background. Environment variables and Registry settings will be set or
updated with current information.

The MineSight Grail installation will then be performed. Unless Python was already installed,
three separate Python installations will occur in succession. In some cases, the Python installer
may prompt a popup dialog asking you to restart the computer now. Please click CANCEL;
otherwise, the installation will not be able to perform it's cleanup tasks. Release notes for Grail
Installation Instructions will follow the MineSight Installation Instructions.

The .NET2 installation will occur next. The wizard will skip the .NET2 installation if it detects that
.NET2 was already installed. Approximately 255 MB of disk space is required to install .NET2. The
.NET2 installer requires Microsoft Windows Installer 3 as a prerequisite which usually is already
installed. If Microsoft Windows Installer 3 is missing, you may execute WindowsInstaller-
KB893803-v2-x86.exe from the CD found in the folder, \install\dotNET (this installer requires 12
MB of disk space).

For "Typical" setups and (if selected in) "Custom" setups, the MineSight Activity Planner and
MineSight Data Analyst installations will follow.

The MineSight Activity Planner installer will invoke the SQL Server Native Client installer and the
Crystal Reports installer. The SQL Server Native Client installer supports 32 bit machines only. If
you wish to install on a 64 bit machine, we provide an "sqlncli_x64.msi" installer located on the CD
in folder, \install\MSAP\sqlncli. The SQL Server Native Client is used only for supporting the
"Import Resources" tool of MineSight Activity Planner.

If selected in "Custom" setup, MineSight Strategic Planner will install next.

Next, the Sentinel key driver is installed. If a prior version already exists, it will first be uninstalled.
All Sentinel USB keys will need to be removed prior to the installation (and uninstallation if
applicable). In some cases, the Sentinel Installation may prompt a popup dialog asking whether to
reboot now or wait until later. Please respond LATER; otherwise, the Minesight Installation will
not be able to perform it's cleanup tasks. Approximately 83 MB of disk space is required to install
the driver.

Once the MineSight Setup window announces 'InstallShield Wizard Complete', you may select YES
to restart the computer; otherwise, ensure you restart the computer at a later time. To complete
the installation program, click on the Finish button.

SENTINEL COMPATIBILITY ISSUES. The Sentinel SuperPro version 7.4.0 key driver we install is
developed by SafeNet and is reported to be compatible with all 32 and 64 bit computers with the
exception of the Itanium processor. Upon startup of the MineSight programs, information is
obtained from the attached Sentinel hardware key and delivered to the program being executed.

Visit the SafeNet website at http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp for further
questions regarding Sentinel driver compatibility and/or downloading.

RESETTING ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES. The install program automatically sets the necessary
environment variables in either the User or System section as specified above. Environment
variables defil, medexe, metlib, PYTHONHOME and PYTHONPATH will be set. The directory you
are installing to is assigned to medexe and is appended to the PATH variable. PYTHONHOME is
also appended to the PATH variable. If you want to change these environment variables, you may
do so using Control Panel\System.

One simplified means of setting User environment variables is to import the installation generated
registry files, mintec.reg and hoops.reg, residing in the installed \Support subdirectory. After the
Administrator grants the user read & execute permissions for these files, log into the user's
account and import mintec.reg and hoops.reg by using Regedit or simply by double-clicking the
files in Windows Explorer.

INSTALLING MINESIGHT STRATEGIC PLANNER. MineSight Strategic Planner should be installed
via the "Custom" setup described above. After choosing the destination folder, you should then
select the "Strategic Planner" component from the next panel. Each of these three setups will also
install the required License Manager, .NET2, and Sentinel driver. This installation of Strategic
Planner requires anywhere from 26 MB to 131 MB of disk space depending on pre-installed
components. If .NET2 and the Sentinel are not yet installed, an additional 338 MB of disk space is
required.

INSTALLING ADOBE READER. If you have chosen an install option that includes documentation,
you will need the Adobe Reader to read files with the .pdf extension. If you do not have this
installed, we do provide an installer in the \install\acroread directory on the CD (requiring about
55 MB of disk space) which can be started in any of the following ways:

Click Start, click Run, and enter d:\install\acroread\setup.
From Windows Explorer: double click on file d:\install\acroread\setup
From DOS: at the command prompt, enter d:\install\acroread\setup.

where d: is your specific CD drive containing the CD.

SITE-SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS. Retrieve any site-specific files you saved earlier. Copy the proper
site-specific plotting programs to m122v1.exe and plotv1.exe. To determine the proper version of
M122xx and PLOTxx, check page 122-3 in the M120 Programs section of the documentation (e.g.,
if you have an HP plotter that doesn't use HPGL/2, copy m122hp.exe to m122v1.exe and
plothp.exe to plotv1.exe).

ENVIRONMENT AND PATH.
The environment variables necessary to run MineSight are MEDEXE, METLIB and DEFIL and the
path. These environment variables should already be properly set by the installation. An
explanation of these variables is as follows.

MEDEXE should be set to C:\winexe or the path to the subdirectory where the MineSight
executable files exist on your system.

METLIB should be set to C:\winexe\metlib\ or the path to the subdirectory where the
MineSight procedure files exist on your system.

PYTHONHOME should be set to C:\python22
executable files exist on your system.

DEFIL should be set to .\defil or just . (a single period).

The PATH variable must include the path to the subdirectory where the MineSight executable
programs are located.

HOOPS SETTINGS IN THE REGISTRY. The installation automatically creates the HOOPS folder in
the registry. The installation automatically uses the settings found in hoops_opengl.reg for better
video performance. If you are experiencing video problems executing the MineSight software,
please import registry file, hoops_msw.reg, found in the installed \Support subdirectory by using
Regedit or by double-clicking it under Windows Explorer.

Should you manually need to create the HOOPS folder in the registry, run the registry-editing
Note that only the logged-in user will have the HOOPS environment installed.

The HOOPS_PICTURE variable is required:

Select the HKEY_CURRENT_USER on Local Machine by highlighting the HKEY_CURRENT_USER
folder.

Enter HOOPS for the key; enter REG_SZ for the class.
Click on the HOOPS entry to open the folder.
Choose Edit - Add Value.
Enter HOOPS_PICTURE for the value name.
The type will be already entered as REG_SZ.
Click on OK.
When the window opens asking for a value string, enter msw/window0 or opengl/window0,
depending on which driver you want to use.
Close the registry editor.

The HOOPS_FONT_DIRECTORY points at the system that is examined by MineSight 3-D for valid
fonts to use in the graphics viewer. Normally this should be set to your Windows font directory:

hoops_font_directory: REG_SZ: c:\winnt\fonts

The HOOPS_DRIVER_OPTIONS sets how much of the screen is taken up by MineSight MGI
programs, e.g., M650ED. The default setting should be:

hoops_driver_options: REG_SZ:subscreen=(-.9,.9,-.9,.9)

This takes up 90% of the screen, and is calculated from the center of the screen. For 100% of the
screen, set it to:

hoops_driver_options:REG_SZ:subscreen=(-1.0,1.0,-1.0,1.0)

Change it by clicking on the HOOPS folder, then highlighting the hoops_driver_options setting and
choosing Edit - string. Save your changes.

The HOOPS_TEXT_FONT sets the font used in the MGI programs. No default is set for this, so the
system default font will be used. To set the variable use:

hoops_text_font:REG_SZ:name=system default

Other choices for the font are: sansserif, roman, typewriter, stroked, Newfield, Enfield,
Brooktondale or Kuma.

ONLINE HELP SETTINGS. Microsoft Internet Explorer is used for displaying online help and thus is
subject to Internet Explorer security restriction settings. If you receive a notice that a file is
restricted from showing active content and are presented with a click here to see options
message, please select the option to allow blocked content; otherwise, the online help Index &
Search capabilities may be hindered.

MineSight Grail Installation Instructions

This wizard installs MineSight Grail and supporting Python software tools. If an older version of
Python is detected, it will first be uninstalled and then the newer Python version from the CD will
be installed.

====================== I N S T R U C T I O N S ======================

In order for all setup options to work properly you will need to be logged on as a user that has
permissions to install software and system drivers. This will generally be a user with Administrator
permissions.

CHECK YOUR DISK SPACE. This installation requires about 58 MB of disk space for Grail and an
additional 44 MB if Python was not already installed.

START THE INSTALLATION. Normally, this installation is started by the MineSight installation.
The installation can also be started in any of the following ways:

Click Start, click Run, and enter d:\install\Grail\setup.
From Windows Explorer: double click on file d:\install\Grail\setup
From DOS: at the command prompt, enter d:\install\Grail\setup.

where d: is your specific CD drive containing the CD.

Upon clicking Next at the Information screen, the following screen allows you to select either a
"Custom", "Network Client", "Network Server" or "Typical" setup.

The "Typical" setup installs all MineSight Grail & Python files. The "Custom" setup allows you to
omit certain components. Both of these types of setups installs files and updates registry settings.

For a client/server network installation, use the "Network Server" setup to first install the required
files on the server machine (a "Network Server" setup actually functions the same as a "Typical"
setup). Then use the "Network Client" setup for each client machine to complete the installation.
The "Network Client" setup provides a screen requiring you to browse the network to locate the
Python directory previously installed on the server. You will be required to first map a drive letter
to the server before using the browser as this will affect the execution of MineSight. The
"Network Client" setup then updates the client machine's registry without copying any data files.

PYTHON INSTALLATION. Three different Python installations will occur. Unless Python has already
been installed, you will be required to install all three installations. If an older version of Python's
Interpreter was previously installed, it will automatically be uninstalled as it will not be compatible
with MineSight Grail. If an older version of Python's Win32 Extensions is already installed, you
will be prompted to first uninstall it. Please do so as it too may not be compatible with MineSight
Grail. You will not be asked to uninstall Python if the version you currently have is newer.

In some cases, a Python Installation may prompt a popup dialog asking whether to reboot now or
wait until later. Please click CANCEL; otherwise, the MineSight Grail Installation will not be able
to perform its cleanup tasks.

To complete the installation program, click on the Finish button.

SETTING ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES. The wizard will automatically set the necessary environment
in the User Variables section of the Environment Variable settings. If you want these as system
environment variables, they can be easily moved via System in the Control Panel.
