Voice Policies

Tuition and Fees
Tuition is billed by the term and may be paid in installments as outlined in the semester calendar. Installments are due
at the first lesson of each month. Tuition is non-refundable.

Tuition increases annually by three percent, with new rates established each fall.

Lessons
Students must bring all necessary materials for lessons and workshops. Please check before leaving home.
In depth instruction in the voice also includes performance skills training. In addition to lessons, voice students are
required to attend mandatory monthly Technique and Performance workshops to develop these abilities.
A quality music education is a significant financial investment. In addition to tuition parents should understand the cost
of purchasing a flash drive, paying for guest artist workshops and competitions and all necessary music books and mp3s.
Students who are progressing well will go through a significant amount of music each year.
Practicing
A good practice environment is essential. Students should have easy and consistent access to the computer or other
means in order to play their lesson recording. Practice requirements vary according to class and level.
Missed Lessons
A students private lesson time must be a priority in the family schedule. Lessons missed by students may not be made
up. Please do not ask to reschedule for parties, sports events, medical appointments, etc. Tuition for missed lessons is
not refunded.
A student who has a conflict with his or her lesson time may make arrangements with another student to trade lesson
times.
A student who is unable to attend a lesson or workshop may invite a family member to take his or her place.
A lesson cancelled by Musical Minds Studios will be made up at the end of the semester or earlier. No other make-up
lessons are offered.
Recitals and Performance Events
Studio recitals are held regularly. Participants are expected to stay for the duration of recitals. Please do not ask to
arrive late or leave early.
Commitment
The enrollment is a firm commitment and guarantees your place in the studio. To maintain a position in the studio, all
students are required to register for summer lessons.
Song Repertoire
Students will be expected to learn Musical Theatre, LDS, Classical, Show Tunes and Pop genres. Song repertoire will
always be chosen with the physical, emotional and mental health and long-term use of the voice in mind. Students will
not be allowed to sing songs that may cause health problems, such as limiting their range or damaging any function of
their vocal cords. Many popular songs today may cause polyps, nodules or may even lead to severe vocal cord
hemorrhaging.
Songs with a heavy repetitive beat can cause our minds and emotions to go numb, increase heart rate, and create anger
and fear. Lyrics with any slight reference to drugs, alcohol, immorality, and violence can begin to control and alter our
thoughts and behavior and blind us to reality.
Music sung in the studio must have a natural, changing melodic line with lyrics that tell a story and should have a logical
flowing chord progression.
Because of these issues, the policy approved pop songs will be strictly from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Each student will
receive a list of studio approved songs from which to work.
These fixed repertoire policies remain firmly in force for all competitions. Please do not request songs that do not follow
the above stipulations.

Punctuality
Please be on time for lessons. I will not be able go over your lesson time into anothers when you are late. Remember
you are paying for your slot and not minutes into someone elses.
Lesson will begin and end promptly. Please be punctual!!
