Cd to the "autouser" ($AUTOUSER) directory and "." (or source) the
"ksh" file. Ex ". ./autosys.ksh.machine" After installin! AutoSys" first

The fact that all :o's in a 'ox chan!e status -hen a 'ox starts runnin!
has lead so#e to use 'oxes to i#&le#ent ":o' cycle" 'eha(ior. %e
a-are that &lacin! :o's in a 'ox to achie(e this end #ay 'rin! -ith it
undesired 'eha(ior due to the nature of 'oxes.
A(oid the te#&tation to &ut :o's in a 'ox as a short cut for &erfor#in!
e(ents (such as O+40CE or O+4BO1$) on a lar!e nu#'er of :o's at
once. *ou -ill #ost likely find that the default 'eha(ior of 'oxes
inhi'its the ex&ected execution of the :o's you &laced in the 'ox.
1ike-ise" you should not &lace :o's in a 'ox solely 'ecause you -ant to
run re&orts on all of the#. >hen you run autore& on a 'ox" you -ill !et
a re&ort on the 'ox and all the :o's in the 'ox (unless you use the 21?
o&tion). 0n addition" if you use -ildcardin! -hen s&ecifyin! a :o' na#e"
you could !et du&licate entries in your re&ort. Aor exa#&le" su&&ose

startin! conditions re#ain in the ACT0NATE$ state until those
additional de&endencies ha(e 'een #et. The 'ox re#ains in the
RU++0+/ state as lon! as there are acti(ated or runnin! :o's in the
'ox.
0f a 'ox is ter#inated 'efore a :o' in it -as a'le to start" the status of
that :o' -ill chan!e directly fro# ACT0NATE$ to 0+ACT0NE.
Note o *o0s in a 0o3 cannot start un/ess the 0o3 is running.

Each :o' in a 'ox -ill run only once &er 'ox execution. Therefore" you
should not define #ore than one ti#e attri'ute for any :o' in a 'ox
'ecause the :o' -ill only run the first ti#e. 0f you -ant to &ut a :o' in a
'ox" 'ut you also -ant it to run #ore than once" you #ust assi!n
#ulti&le start ti#e conditions to the 'ox itself" and define no ti#e
conditions for the :o'. Re#e#'er also that the 'ox #ust 'e runnin!
'efore the :o' can start. $o not assi!n a start ti#e for a :o' in a 'ox if
the 'ox -ill not 'e runnin! at that ti#e. 0f you do" the next ti#e the
'ox starts the :o' -ill start i##ediately.

0f a 'ox that is not runnin! contains a :o' that chan!es status" as a

status could chan!e the status of its container 'ox. A chan!e of status
of the 'ox could tri!!er the start of do-nstrea# :o's that are
de&endent on the 'ox.

The difference 'et-een "on hold" and "on ice" is that -hen an "on
hold" :o' is taken off hold" if its startin! conditions are already
satisfied" it -ill 'e scheduled to run" and it -ill run. On the other hand"
if an "on ice" :o' is taken "off ice"" it -ill not start" e(en if its startin!
conditions are already satisfied. This :o' -ill not run until its startin!
conditions reoccur.
The other #a:or distinction is that :o's do-nstrea# fro# the :o' that is
