Women have begun to appear in rap lyrics more than often depicted in a way that creates them to
appear as though they are sex objects and not real people. This harms women in our culture because it
makes them feel that their only purpose in any relationship is to please their male partner and submit to
his desires because if they dont, they are worthless in the eyes of a man. This of course is not true of
most every man but such suggestive lyrics portray it as so. This is degrading to all women and can give
them a skewed outlook on how a healthy relationship should be with their significant other.
This causes women to be less empowered and in control of their own destiny because they feel that in
order to be important and wanted by a man, they have to give all control to the man. Women feel that
in order to be loved they have to do exactly what the man wants and their desires and pleasures are
meaningless.
I promise to not pursue such songs while residing in this household. I will strive to look for songs that are
not demeaning of the female gender. I will listen to songs that portray a positive outlook for women. I
promise to pursue songs that will uplift my character and make me feel better about myself.
