Business Card
Description: I designed the business card and stationary
as a set. I wanted to use the CF design I built in a
different way.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used illustrator to
create the logo and InDesign to set up the actual card. I
began with my other logos and decided to design a new
one with elements from some of my other designs while
creating something different. I had a lot of fun putting
together a cohesive plan for multiple products with a
theme. Illustrator was fascinating in its vector based
graphics.
Message: I wanted to make sure that the project felt
professional and yet, out of the ordinary.
Audience: I want my audience to be like-minded
politicians and businesses. My activism tends to color my
work. I think there are some really fantastic candidates
out there.
Top Thing Learned: I learned about effective business
cards and how to create a theme. I did a lot of research
into business cards for this.
Letterhead
Description: I created the business card and stationary as
a set. I was especially proud of the CF logo I made and I
wanted to incorporate it more into some other things.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used Adobe Illustrator
again, but this time in combination with InDesign to create
something of a hybrid project. Once I had the business
card done, the stationary was easier. The watermark
is my favorite part. I thought it made it look particularly
awesome. I found myself looking at layout more that I
thought I would.
Message: I wanted to make sure that the project felt
professional and yet, out of the ordinary.
Audience: I want my audience to be like minded
politicians and businesses. This stationary in particular
has a very clean and yet edgy feel to it.
Top Thing Learned: I learned about layout and how to
make everything work together.
Montage
Description: I would like to say that I really love trains.
This was an assignment to help us learn masking. I had
fun, very Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): This was my frst
venture into Adobe Photoshop for anything beyond minor
touch-ups. I had fun. Masking was diffcult at frst, but it
grew on me.
Message: I have a sneaky suspicion that this is the train
to hell. It seems too happy and colorful to be real.
Audience: I would assume that the audience is Sheldon
from the Big Bang Theory and other train enthusiasts.
Top Thing Learned: I learned a lot of Adobe Photoshop.
That has been really helpful.
Flier
Description: This is just a fier I made for a Graduate
Leadership Conference.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): This was my very frst
attempt at Adobe InDesign. It was my frst time with any
adobe suite product. Looking back, I learned so much
from this piece. It isnt my best work, but I think its a
pretty sweet fier.
Message: I wanted to make sure that everyone knew
about the event and attended. That was my job. I wanted
to make something visually striking. I wanted the triangle
motif to stand out in both positive and negative space. I
had a thing for triangles at the time.
Audience: Graduate students who need a leg up on the
competition.
Top Thing Learned: I really was able to sink my teeth into
Adobe InDesign. That has been incredibly valuable to me.
Logos
Description: These are my top 3 logos. This may be the
most fun I have had in this class.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): Adobe Illustrator is a
fantastic tool. Once I fgured out how it did its math, it
became the easiest so far.
Message: The message of my logo is one of
professionalism with character and individuality.
Audience: My consulting company works with politicians
to shore up their Online presence and reputation.
Top Thing Learned: I learned how to use illustrators vector
based graphics with my affnity for math and geometry.
My favorite logo is the middle. I worked really hard to get
the symbol to look the way I wanted it. That said, I will
probably choose the far right for actual use.

Brochure

Description: This is my favorite piece I have done, this is
my masterpiece. When it is all folded correctly, it is just
fantastic. I couldnt be more proud.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): Oh wow, so much. I
used Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign a lot. I even got
to write a bit, which was fun.
Message: I wanted to do something that could be used for
a cause I believe in. I have been active with Students For
Liberty for a while.
Audience: I want my audience to be anyone that would
be interested in Students For Liberty and the ideas of
freedom.
Top Thing Learned: I learned so much here. I dont even
know where to start. I learned about folds and how to
layout a brochure to make complex folds work. I learned a
lot about alignment in more of a complex piece. I learned
about brochures in general from layout to how to say
what you need to say in such a small place. If I forget
everything else, I will always remember the importance of
InDesign guidelines.
Event Flier
Description: This is a fier/poster for Junto. Junto is a
reading group that reads classical liberal texts. Everything
from Bastiat to Hayek and Mises. The Club was originally
started by Ben Franklin, but now there are chapters all
over.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used Photoshop in
conjunction with InDesign. I wanted to use a color scheme
in monochrome with a brick accent color.
Message: I want people to come to Junto, a pro-liberty
reading group that I started. We have fantastic debates
about freedom, liberty, and economics.
Audience: The audience this poster was designed for
were the liberty conscious students who like to read at
BYU.
Imaging
I really enjoyed working with Photoshop and touching up
these admittedly bland shots. I had never used a DSLR
before and I didnt have any training with them. That said,
I wanted to learn how to touch up real photos taken by
someone who had little experience with photography. My
theory was, if I can make these look good, I can make
any photo look good. The book photo from my event fier
was also part of this shoot. Also, who doesnt love the
bobble-head Hulk looking listless off into the distance. I
learned how to use many of the touch-up tools available
with Photoshop to sharpen, give contrast, brighten, and
all around niceness. The pile of books from the fier was
me trying to ft as much of my life in one photo as possible
while making it interesting, colorful, and dynamic.
In many ways, these photos are my life. That is my couch,
my desk, the view from my balcony. The more I touched
up these photos, the more I thought about what I really
took photos of. My apartment is kind of small and I made
sure to get all of my favorite things. What started as me
being strapped for time on a rented camera, turned out to
be something I have developed a sentimental connection
to. After I began manipulating these shots, I realized that
it was important to make sure that the limitations of the
camera didnt distract from the way I know these objects
should look, because they are mine.
Website
Description: I have created a functioning, if not a little
2002, website from scratch.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used HTML and CSS.
It was a blast. I also used a bit of Adobe Suite here and
there for the images, but I coded the entire thing myself.
Message: The site if for politicians who want to use my
consulting services. I dont have a website yet and I will
hire someone to do mine, but now I know the level of
diffculty.
Audience: My audience would be anyone interested in my
consulting services.
Top Thing Learned: I have used HTML before, but I had
never tried building a website from scratch, complete with
CS. It was time consuming and grueling, but it worked,
complete with links and it used percentage sizing so that it
could work on mobile devices.
