RETHINKING NOWADAYS EDUCATION: CRAFTSMEN PLUS SCIENTISTS

During history education has been representing a preeminent role in society becoming a way to
acquire positions, better jobs, influence in economics, technological innovations, etc.; but at the
same time the image in the population nowadays is not as positive as it was in the past. Not only
that, the crux of this concern is the teachers motivation, specialized knowledge and commitment
towards the achievement of global aims and standards in teaching and learning. Even though, the
time and the multiple tasks, the ideal teacher involves the use of craftsmen and scientist
characteristics for the reason that they could support them in its mission then as a consequence
transform the reality in the classrooms.
In todays classes, the situation related to our students vision of education is completely critical,
the lack of motivation in an environment demanding careful attention in its needs, economical
problems and emotions coming to the surface, the unconnected tasks with multitasks students,
the absence of quality time between children and parents, the spreading propaganda of the mass
media, the technology advances with its advantages and disadvantages, the culture of filling out
exams as manner of measure knowledge, the busy and isolated communities and other severe
problems have an inconceivable implication in teaching contexts. For these reasons, currently
teaching becomes an intensive work and craftsman plus scientists abilities could the possible
elucidation in this labyrinth.
As a matter of fact, a craftsman is a specialized person in its field following the next features to do
its job fine: Precision, the creativity and expertise satisfying the customer requests. In other words,
our students in educational purposes will be the customers and then teachers will make them feel
as well as possible through applying the three craftsman keys of success; changing the schools
face suchlike mandatory institution in which everything is old-fashioned and tedious.
Science, the unceasing human endeavor and obsession, it is an extensive field where some
teachers just work a part because of its complexity, brings main qualities that could be used by a
teacher and support the idea to make its labor a significant process. For instance, the persistence
every day, the inquisitiveness in each singularity presented in the classroom, the internal force to
work focusing all the attention in the target audience: the learners, the critical attitude to reflect
its own teaching practices, the love of discovery and enthusiasm for implementing tasks, the
imagination and self-confidence with an sparkle of aggressiveness addressing the obstacles to
thrive.
In conclusion, the combination of craftsmen and scientists elements will provide new tenets for
the 2012 teachers, contributing to school accomplishment in society restoring its place, position
and excellent reference had years ago. However, a change is going to come with students,
teachers and community related to improved and technology-supported teaching practices
promoting autonomous learning, critical thinking and social awareness.
In my opinion, a teacher who realized its starring role in human beings lives will face the future
education with commitment and effort to understand the uncomfortable truth sometimes have to
experience in its job.
