Target Competency
At the end of this activity, the FS student will be able to determine the appropriateness of teaching aids to learning tasks.
Specific Tasks
1. Observe a class on its regular schedule.
2. Note down the various teaching aids that were utilized in the teaching learning process,
3. Comment on the appropriateness of the teaching aids to the learning tasks.
CLASS OBSERVATION GUIDE
Read the following statements carefully before you observe.
1. What is the lesson about? 2. What visual aids/materials/learning resources is the teacher using? 3. Observe and take notes on how the teacher presents/uses the learning resources. 4. Closely observe the learners response to the teachers use of learning resources. Listen to their verbal responses. What do their responses indicate? Do their responses show attentiveness, eagerness and understanding? 5. Focus on their non-verbal responses. Are they leaning forward showing their interest on the lesson and the materials? Are they looking towards the direction of the teacher and the materials?

UTILIZATION OF TEACHING AIDS FORM
GRADE/ YEAR LEVEL OF CLASS OBSERVED: First Year High School DATE OF OBSERVATION: July 14, 2014 SUBJECT MATTER: English Brief description of teaching approach used by the teacher:
The teaching approach used by the teacher is the individualized teaching approach which recognizes the uniqueness of each learner and thus provide for adequate tutorial guidance. During the class discussion the teacher were using only chalk and chalk board. The learner in this class was attentive or responsive, when the teacher calls them to answer they just raise their hand and when their name is being called they stand up and go to the board to answer the question.
Mrs. Kristine Escoto- English Teacher ( 1 st Year High School)
Elyza Franz Lingat MY ANALYSIS
During the observation, Mrs. Escoto used instructional material/ learning resources that are very common in a classroom like chalk board, white board, hand- outs and books. The one thing that prompted the teacher to use the materials in the lesson is appropriateness in fulfilling the lesson objective of the day through a method that the students will enjoy. Teacher used these instructional materials because of its inexpensiveness and it is economical and reusable. A teacher should facilitate evaluative process by focusing students attention in the effectiveness, efficiency of instructional materials. The teacher experienced the difficulty in keeping her students attentive enough to listen to the discussion of the lesson because some students show restlessness and boredom to the lesson being presented. Somehow the teacher must use flash cards, charts, power point or any alternative instructional materials to get the attention of students. Teaching Aids Used
Strengths Weakness Comments on the Appropriateness of the Teaching Aids Used
Chalk board
Handouts
Books
White board
Used as a medium for verbal communication It is economical and reusable.
Aid learning and increase attention and motivation and help students to follow the development of idea.
Could be reacting for instruction, recreation or entertainment.
Easier to hold and does not generate dust.
It does not provide a permanent record.
This is a role of no confidence in students note taking; some of them may feel cheated because they took notes unnecessarily.
Dependent about the ideas that is written in the book.
The white board background can cause problems to those with vision impairment.
The chalk board is often neglected and it does not get the proper care it deserves.
Using handouts or not is an act management not simply of information-giving
Books are effective to use as an instructional tool because it makes students to think and understand clearly about the lesson.
Effective to use because it does not generate dust that comes from using and erasing chalks.
Although there is an interaction between the students and the teacher that can enhance the students participation, somehow I cant say that all those learning resources/materials were effective in all students. Teacher still needs to adjust her plans to match the changing interest and needs of the learners. During the discussion, students show boredom about the presentation of the lesson because visual aid for me describe as a dry tool to be used to the learners. Maybe, until now, that aid is effective to some but using technology can create a meaningful learning that transmits students effectively. It is much better to use power point to present well the lessons clearly including some examples especially pictures. MY REFLECTIONS
If I will put myself in the place of the teacher where we had our observation, the thing that I would do similarly is to give the students a copy of the lesson through giving them hand- outs so that they can participate on the discussion well and I will also distribute reports to help them develop their communication skills and to build self-confidence through reporting. Then the different thing that I would do is to change the technique in using teaching aids. May be if I will be allowed to used the computer, I will use power point presentation to the discussion in order to be more attentive and responsive on the part of the student. If I will be on the part of the teacher, I want to make the students or class lively enough in a way that the students wont get bored in the class because that is one of the reason why students dont want to listen to the reports or discussions. So, to minimize this, I as a teacher, must find ways to get the students interests, and must have a sense of humor so that theyll not get bored sitting and listening to the report or discussion. As future educators we should be patient enough to find ways or strategies that will be suit to students interest to make the discussion more interactive and at the same time effective. Cristelyn Marie Manalo MY ANALYSIS During our observation, the instructional materials that were used by the teacher were chalkboard, whiteboard, handouts, and books. The very common teaching aids used in classroom. I think the teacher used those instructional materials because she thought that it would be more effective to use those things or strategies. Maybe she still not used to a power point presentation. At the time that we observed, the students were reporting about a particular topic given by their teacher. I think the difficulties that the teacher experienced were: she cant manage the class and the way her students behaved while having a reporting because some were texting and some were chatting with their classmates. I guess, for the teacher to manage those unnecessary things done by her students during the reporting would become lessen if only if she will give her full attention to her students and telling the students to listen and stop doing something while the reporting is still going on. The learning resources were somehow not effective because for me using that instructional materials nowadays is dry and boring to look at. The students wont focus on the report because theyll feel bored looking the same things used in reporting. There is a need to enhance the ways or strategies that the teacher applied. She must tell her students to used power point in their report so that the class would be lively and they will focus in the reporting. There will be more interaction between teacher and students. To also developed students participation in class activities for that matter. MY REFLECTIONS
If I were on the part of the teacher, the teaching skills that I would similar to her teaching strategies are the way I incorporate the instructional materials into a lessons like giving handouts to the students about the topic and the way I applied my teaching strategies to encouraged students to be active and alert during the learning process like asking question to the students about the topic, then each of the students should have an answered to that questioned, so that, there is an interaction between the teacher and the students to make learning process became more interesting. Then the different strategy that I would do to make students motivate well in the learning process before I discussed the lessons to the students, a number of questioned about the topic can served from the students to arouse their interest and focus their attention to the topic. As a whole, learning is meaningful when it is connected to the students everyday life. A good teaching enhanced students to interact in different classroom activities to make teaching learning possible.

MY ANALYSIS
The instructional materials serves as a clear representation that was capable of giving clear information, through this, students were actively engaged in the discussion and the teacher was trying to use her creativeness and resourcefulness to facilitate the learning. As I closely observed, there was no difficulty that the teacher experienced. The class was well managed and the teacher did not find it hard to convince her students to participate in the discussion and activity. There was an interaction between the students and the teacher, and the teacher makes sure that her students stay on task as observed. The learning resources were effective because all students were actively engaged in the discussion by answering the questions written in the visual aid and some of them were able to answer what was asked.. Through the score of students on their quiz that shows a positive result, I can conclude that learning material was used effectively.
MY REFLECTIONS
If I will be the teacher of that class teaching with the same lesson, I will also provide activities in order for students to have an opportunity to practice and apply their knowledge, skills. I will use the chalkboard and I will provide them an interactive activity by dividing them into groups to be followed by a short discussion. After I implement the instruction, I will evaluate students by providing an assessment method that is suited to the needs and interest of the students in order for me to measure the retention of students if they have achieved mastery, and to know if Im going to proceed or revise the instruction.

MY ANALYSIS
I think the teacher chose the chalk board for her learning resources because she is comfortable in using it, wherein she can discuss the lesson very well. I think teacher prompted to choose the materials/learning resources that she used was its because she conceived that those aids was effective and suit to her students needs of learning.
The teacher experienced difficulties when the learners are not listening to her. Some of the students are talking and got bored in the report because the reporters does not explain their report they always read without analyzing the assigned topic. But she manages to get the attention of the student by telling them interesting stories.
I like the way Mrs. Escoto teach her lessons. Because you can see the interaction between the learners and the teacher itself. I like the teaching strategy of Mrs. Escoto and the way she use of chalk board in discussing the lesson.
MY REFLECTIONS
If Im going to be the teacher I will do similarly, I will use the same strategies for instance when shes giving quizzes because I can see the effectiveness to the learners, the students are very energetic and I can see to their faces the excitement they are feeling while taking the quiz its like they are in a game show. I will also motivate my students to learn more than just the content on the objects they see. Student-centered will be my primary objective. Juliemar Garcia MY ANALYSIS
I Think the Teacher encouraged to use both traditional and modern technology instructional materials was that she generalized its nature and importance of both materials. Traditional instructional materials, which are the chalk-and-board method and the visual aid, were used to give the information needed by the students. It still plays on important role in teaching and learning process because it is the common and most available materials that can be found in every classroom. On the other hand, she utilized modern technology instructional materials because she expected that it sustain the childrens interest and motivates them to learn. Aside from that, integrating technology in the discussion made the class interactive, lively ad enthusiasm. The difficulty that I observe she cant handle the attitude of the students while having a reporting, the students are not listening, because some of them were talking with their classmates. To manage this, the teacher should be give her attention to her students and ask them one by one about the topic of the reporters. The learning resources/materials are used effectively because students learning become more interactive through applying accepted learning theory. There is an interaction between students and teacher which can enhance the students participation or cooperation. MY REFLECTIONS
If Im going to put myself to the place of the teacher I will do the same, how Mrs. Kristine Escoto, presented the lesson was already been excellent for me. In my future teaching, I will also integrate technology in my discussion. With the same topic to be teach, I will do similar to her way of presenting a movie clips to motivate the students interests in the new topic. Furthermore, it will give students an idea on the new topic presented by the teacher. There will be similarity on us in providing lots and varied of group activities which still considered the students; differences and multiple intelligences, like her, values integration will also be highlighted in my future teaching in such a way that students will not just understand the topic nut will also appreciate the essence and importance of the topic in their lives. During the assessment, the proficiency level of the students was hundred percent. Maybe, there will be minimal differences in my examination for evaluation. Instead focusing on their knowledge skills, it will be better to. If possible to use the comprehension understanding about the topic itself. In general, the instructional materials, the group activities provided and her way of delivering the lesson really engaged students to actively participate in the discussion.
Angelica Tamayo MY ANALYSIS
What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the materials/ learning resources that she/he used? Blackboard establish since using communication between to the students and teachers. They promote a Announcement and Discussion. The teacher chooce a blackboard system because they easily to prepare the visual aids or instructional materials for their students.
What difficulties, if any, the teacher experience? How can this be managed The students very hyper during the discussion but they very also intelligents. Therefore the teacher give them a punishment to read or to answer the question in chalkboard.
Over-all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why? Why not? For me i give the best resourceful materials for the students like powerpoint presensation to give an impact to the students to listen attentively in the class discussion and at the same time you discuss your objectives for the needs of the students. MY REFLECTIONS
Put in yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what would you do differently if you would teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why? Ms Christine Escoto are very smart and have energetic voice to . If someday i will become a teacher, i try to use their stategy to talk english language fluently. And also i have my own stategy. I have 5(five) ways to become effective teacher in their discussion . First, is prepare a motivation especially if you teach in elementary levels and secondary levels. Second, make sure you prepare your visual aids or instructional materials. Make it creativity to impress your students and they may attract to listen to your discussion. Third, prepare your objectives or lesson plan and then you apply it into your students according their needs. Fourth, after you discuss ask first the students if they are absorving your lesson or understand before you go into your questions for them. If there not, try again dicuss in another strategies until some of them are they getting understand. Fiveth, make sure give an assignment to your next topic for them to give some background in your dissucion in next meeting.
