August 2014
Dear Members and Friends of the St. Peters
Family:

How quickly this summer is passing by!
Vacation Bible School is finished (and what
a wonderful VBS we had at St. Peters) and
in less than a month the children will be
back in school. It seems like 2014 just got
started and here we are only four months
from Thanksgiving and five months from
Christmas! We are all too aware of the
rapid passage of time.

Time is a gift given to us by God. We all
have the exact same number of hours,
minutes and seconds every day, but we are
not all wise stewards of the time that God
gives us.

St. Paul admonishes us in the fifth chapter of
the letter to the Ephesians to Look
carefully then how you walk , not as unwise
but as wise, making the best use of time,
because the days are evil. Therefore, do not
be foolish, but understand what the will of
the Lord is. [Ephesians 5:15-17]

Paul urges us to be careful with the time
God has given us, to enjoy it, but use it
wisely. God has given us the gift of time to
use in enjoying life as well as in serving the
Lord and carrying out the will of the Lord.

In these waning days of summer may we
each consider again the gift of time which
God has so graciously given us. And may we
resolve to each day and each week set aside
a portion of that time to joyfully praise and
serve the Lord.

In joyful partnership with you in Christs
service,

Pastor Leon A. Rawl

Thanks to all who supported me in prayer
as I went to Camp Brittney in Atenas, Costa
Rica, in June for a week of mission work with
children. The camp was our home base, but
we traveled to orphanages, kids and teen
clubs, and a special needs school, where we
assisted with activities and interacted with
the children. We also took educational
supplies, food, and crafts to leave with them.
Camp Brittney is in named in memory of
Brittney Strom, formerly of Ninety Six, SC. It
began about 10 years ago and it's purpose is
to give underprivileged children a safe, fun
place to learn of God's love for them. A week
of camp sponsorship for each child is only
$42.50.
In addition to summer and winter camps, the
property houses students that are preparing
to take God's Word worldwide through The
Strom Bible Institute.
You can learn more about Camp Brittney and
mission opportunities through their website,
campbrittney.org. I am also willing to share
information from my experience.

...whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart,
not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (ESV)

Many of you may remember a catchy song from last years VBS. In the song, the children sang part of
the Bible verse you just read: God loves a cheerful giver. We all want to win the affections of our
Lord by putting our faith into action, but what does it mean to be a cheerful giver?

A cheerful giver, as Paul tells us in his letter to the Corinthians, is someone who gives freely as his or
her own heart dictates. A cheerful giver does not give out of compulsion, because someone else
expects it or just because giving its the right thing to do. A cheerful giver truly gives from the impulses
of the heart.

This is not to say that our giving should be directed by feelings of generosity that may ebb like the
tides of the sea. Instead, cheerful giving comes from the constant joy within our hearts, from the joy
whose source is Christ. This joy never ebbs, fades, or grows dim. It is a lasting joy that is not daunted
by disappointments, failures, or any self-interested desires, but glows eternal from Gods promise of
salvation.

For some, this joy in Christ is expressed by cheerfully giving regular financial support to the ministries
of the church through weekly or monthly offerings or through the Simply Giving program. For others,
joy is also expressed in the cheerful giving of time and talent poured out in Christ-like service to the
church and community. In whatever way the Spirit moves your joyful heart to give, the return is always
greater than the investment. For whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another,
as good stewards of God's varied grace... 1 Peter 4:10 (ESV)

Have you ever considered all the gifts you have been given? Take a moment and jot down in the
margin of this page, some of the gifts you have been given... How far did you get? Every one of
us could fill this entire page and many others listing all the gifts that God has given to us.

One of the most obvious gifts that God gives to us is the gift of time. We never know how many
days we have on this earth, but each day we have the same number of minutes, one thousand
four hundred and forty, as everyone else on the planet. None of us has more. None of us has less.
But what we do with these minutes is up to us or is it?

As Christians, we are called to use our time differently than the world would have us use it. When
we were baptized, we died to our sin and the ways of the world and rose again with Christ to new
life in Him. No longer are we slaves to sin, nor to the pressures of the world. No longer is the time
we have been given our own. Our gift of time, as well as all our other gifts, even ourselves, belong
to God.

This is not to say that we do not experience the pressures of the world, that we do not have to live
by schedules, keep appointments, and be punctual in honoring commitments. Being mindful of
time is important, but we do not have to be ruled by worldly pressures to continually move faster
and cram more stuff into the day.

We are not ruled by the clock, but by our Lord and Savior. We do not live our days according to
the priorities of the world, because we are all on Gods time. And we are called to use His gift of
time wisely, serving others, as an expression of His abundant grace. So let us make every day
count, all one thousand four hundred and forty minutes of it.
Dear St. Peter's Friends,

All of the work at the foster homes has taken sooooooo much longer than I ever
imagined. But thanks to y'all's support and helping to send my mom and Dwight down with the
Clemson Presbyterian work team, we are slowly but surely enlarging our project to help more
kids. Yesterday the new solar water heater for homes 1 & 2 was finally debugged. Next week
(God willing!) they will install the solar water heater for home 3 and finish covering the porch to the
new dining room. The week after, we hope to finish prepping the new dining room and porch floor
for concrete. Each week foster dad Rogerio posts photos to Facebook -- let me know if y'all can't
see them.

When our office staff returns from vacation we'll finally divide into 3 foster homes, so already be
praying for the next foster kids to be sent to us! Pray for a 2nd foster mom for the older girls who
can also help with vocational training. Besides construction and expense reports, I continue to
organize local Bible institute students to visit and counsel the families of some of our foster kids --
pray that local churches eventually assume this task! A former Canadian intern and his wife may
visit here a few days in early July to give encouragement and lend a hand.

Thanks so much for y'all's prayers and support!
In Christ's Service,
David E. Davis

Dear Fellow Members,

Our friends at St. Peters have been so thoughtful to our family during this past year. Losing Frank
last November and continuing health problems of my own have made me even more appreciative
of your continuing thoughtful deeds.
Thank you for caring and representing Gods Word in our time of need.

Sincerely,
Louise Register
