Matrix Technologies staff of experienced process engineers
are ready to help you meet your process development needs.
Our engineers are experienced and expert in the development
of overall mass and energy balances for the process. The mass
and energy balances are prepared by analyzing each subsys-
tem and combining them into an overall balance. Preliminary
utility demand and other ancillary requirements are identiied
from this information.
Based on the overall mass and energy balance, Matrix will
develop process low diagrams (PFD) for your process. Pre-
liminary equipment requirements are established and the
equipment is sized and speciied from the PFDs. Matrix will
utilize existing piping speciications or if none exist, make rec-
ommendations and participate in the development of piping
speciications.
Utilizing the PFDs, equipment speciications, and piping speci-
ications, Matrix will develop the project piping and instru-
mentation diagrams (P&ID). By utilizing smart P&ID technol-
ogy we achieve increased overall project eficiency. Matrix will
prepare preliminary equipment layouts, size the piping, and
prepare preliminary pipe routing. Based on the P&IDs, Matrix
will prepare instrument speciications and lists, motor horse-
power lists, and reine the equipment speciications to make
them suitable for obtaining vendor quotations. Matrix will use
this information to develop an estimate of the total installed
cost, if desired. This information forms the design basis for the
detailed design phase of the project.

Representative Project Experience
Bio-Waste Gasiication - Conidential Client
Matrix provided process engineering for the modiication and
start-up of a novel bio-waste gasiication demonstration system.
The demonstration unit produced synthesis gas suitable for fur-
ther processing into fuels.
Matrix Technologies deliverables included:
Overall mass and energy balances
Mass and energy balances for each sub-system
Calculation of heat of reaction from published heat of com-
bustion and enthalpy data
Evaluation and optimization of heat recovery scenarios
Prepared Process Flow Diagrams including the entire process
Prepared piping speciications and sized lines
Prepared Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams including
control loops and electric motor sizes
Matrix also sized vessels and prepared outline speciications for
vendor quote. We sized and prepared speciications for vendor
quote for heat exchangers, in-fan air coolers, and the gas reactor
system.
Lignite Coal Enrichment Project - Conidential Client
Matrix provided process engineering support to a project to en-
rich lignite coal. The unit produces gas and liquid products along
with a solid product suitable for use as a fuel.
Matrix Technologies deliverables included:
Smart P&IDs developed from client provided PFDs
Control strategies were deined and included on the P&IDs
Instrument data sheets for over 1300 devices were pre-
pared and linked to the smart P&IDs
The piping speciications were developed and the lines
were sized
Motor sizes were calculated and placed on the P&IDs
Matrix sized and prepared outline speciications for the equip-
ment items included on the P&IDs.
Bituminous Coal Enrichment Project - Conidential Client
Matrix provided process engineering support for a project to en-
rich bituminous coal. The unit produces gas and liquid products
along with a solid product suitable for use as a fuel.

vert waste tires into usable products utilizing pyrolysis. The unit
produces gas and liquid products along with a char suitable for
use as carbon black.
