Paper 1: Introduction to Logic by I.M.

Copi
Introduction to Logic by Patrick Hurley
A website on Logic lectures
All three references will give u score higher than 80.
Paper 2: History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell
The Story of Philosophy by Will Durant
Muslim Philosophy by M. Saeed Sheikh
These books will grant you 70 plus marks.
It will take one and a half months to two months to cover both papers. But this
time span is to score 150 plus marks. Also U may study other subjects alongwith.

There is no need to consult M.M.Sharif. I didn't recommend u his hectic volumes.
Follow the paper pattern these years nd u wl find that u might attempt 3-4 Qs fr
om portion of Western Philosophy.
And if there arises a need to attempt 1 Q from part of Muslim Philosophy, for it
M.Saeed Sheikh wl serve the purpose.
Regardind ur last query, I presume its better to contact me . Here it wl be diff
icult for me to elaborate u each nd every topic.
I think it is hard to quantify time for preparation of philosophy.
I am sharing what i have perceived about the nature of subject it will be easy f
or you to analyse.
Paper I is rather simple, and less time taking especially for a student who has
studied maths till FSc (this never implies that others who have not studied math
s will be unable).
As far as Paper II is concerned, its syllabus is lengthy and time taking as it r
equires to digest thoughts and philosophies of different philosophers. Philosoph
y of every philosopher can be best comprehended if and only if you have a backgr
ound knowledge about what the previous philosopher had said about a particular s
ubject, so you will have to study it right from Socrates (500 BC) till modern ph
ilosophers.
Overall I will say philosophy is a very interesting subject. whether you have ba
ckground or not is not a question to worry about. Time is enough you can do it..
....
I had also same questions and so invested much time and searched alot on this su
bject so want to share my experience, may be it would help someone...
Philosophy is a high scoring subject with comparatively short syllabus but one m
ust opt it after thorough analysis of its syllabus. Opting a subject merely with
a label of "High Scoring" is not a wise decision. One has to keep in mind one's
aptitude and interest.
As far as books or helping material is concerned, Whole syllabus of paper one ca
n be prepared from a single book of Copi or Hurley.
Paper 1 is comparatively easy. You need to study four to five topics in total to
fetch 75+ marks. Formal and Informal arguments, Validity and Truth, Deduction
and Induction, Languages, Fallacies, Symbolic Logic and Ibn Taimya's criticism a
re the most important topics and these questions keep on repeating in exams.
Paper two is somehow technical (intresting too) and demand some efforts, patienc
e and calliber as well. You need to prepare a list of topics to prepare
and get it photocopied from Encyclopedia of Philosophy or take help of some seni
or or philosophy teacher (or from Philosophy department of your uni etc). Most
imp topics of Paper two are Idealism, Pragmatism, Logical Positivism, Existentia
lism and Dialectical Materialism, Mutazilism and Asharism. You need to prepare l
ife
and study of some philosophers also like Al Ghazali, Al Farabi, Ibn Rushd, Ibn
Sina, Ibn Khuldun, Iqbal etc.
Aspirants who opt Islamic History as their optional will have an edge because th
ey prepare some parts of these philosphers in paper 2 of IHC also.
In my humble opinion, aspirants who want to opt Philosophy should not purchase b
ooks or collect material without acknowledging What Really The Philosophy Is??
First of all download the book of Copi or Hurley and study its contents briefly
.
If you find it intresting and you think you can handle it then go ahead and down
load and study the teachings and philosophies of Al Farabi/ Ibn Sina and
some western philosophers etc. Then you will be in a better position to decide
whether you should opt it or not. Once satisfied, buy the book of paper 1 and
collect relevant material of paper 2 and start your preparation with confidence
