Job description

The ideal candidate understands real world issues relative to administering and
maintaining large and / or complex designs to support client-centric corporate
infrastructures. Technical leadership and staff / resource management are critic
al to delivering next generation solutions including network connectivity, inter
net access, mail, DNS, advanced network architecture, LAN / WLAN / WAN / WWAN, U
PS systems, routers, switches, vlans, routing protocols, sub-netting, TCP/IP, OS
PF, EIGRP, BGP and QoS. Furthermore, the Network Engineer will participate with
the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all netw
ork hardware, software, and communication links.

Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility for this position are as follows:
End to end ownership (architecture/design/scale) of current and newly developing
networks
Drive the scaling of current network designs to meet the customers demand
Complete the design and deployment of our service delivery backbone including fi
nalizing our AS registration with ARIN and Public IP assignments
Work closely with internal customers and partners on new designs/solutions, brin
ging them from concept to public launch
Create and update company network standards and ensure that the network adheres
to these standards including "Design Guides" and Validated or "proven" solution
sets
Work closely with our automation teams to assist in defining high value features
and real world needs based on customer engagements
Drive and support innovation and optimization from the endpoint NIC to the core
Oversee operational excellence projects to drive improvements in our network sec
urity, service delivery, quality, and reliability
Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions day to day
Work with a wide range of complex technologies and identify key integration poin
ts for our optimization automation engine
Assess, Design, Configure, and deploy changes on the network to increase perform
ance and reduce risk
Develop Gap Analysis and migration plans including changes in technologies, arch
itectures, protocols, and platforms including Cloud, Mobility, and Virtualizatio
n
Strategy and Planning
Create and maintain documentation relating to network configuration, network map
ping, processes, and service records, using internal tools and procedures as wel
l as standard set of MS Office products including MS Word and Visio
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training pl
ans for network administration, security, optimization, usage, and continuity (d
isaster recovery)
Architecture & Deployment
Deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including, routers, hubs, switches, WA
N-accelerators and other hardware.
Research network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain up-to-da
te on developments in the networking industry.
Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Operational Management
Configure networks (LAN/WAN) to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for f
ulfilling business objectives and processes.
Monitor network stability, availability and performance.
Identify, diagnose and resolve network problems as needed.
Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of custome
rs hardware and software.
Provide third and fourth-tier support for networks and on a lower level for syst
ems, databases and applications.
Identify, evaluate and recommend network related tools and emerging network tech
nologies
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component in
ventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics
and reports.
Participate in managing all network security solutions
Provide guidance and mentoring to (junior) members of the team
Desired Skills and Experience
- CCIE qualified candidates please indicate certification in application (5thCol
umn will sponsor applicants to pass their CCIE Lab and provide bootcamp training
)
- JNCIE-ENT, JNCIE-SEC certifications are also highly desired for one of these k
ey positions and 5thColumn would assist with the training and certification of
such candidate
CCNA / CCNP OR JNCIS / JNCIP- equivalent certified, additional certifications is
a plus especially around Security and Datacenter
Hands-on experience implementing, administrating and troubleshooting network dev
ices
5+ years of network administration mandatory
Expert experience with routers/switches: Cisco, Juniper (all platforms)
Experience with Cisco and ASA platforms
Knowledge about VPN technologies (IPsec, MPLS)
In depth knowledge of network architectures (i.e. Ethernet) and associated compo
nents, including TCP/IP and router/switch technologies, firewalls, etc. Juniper
and Cisco experience a plus.
Knowledge of routing protocols: EIGRP, BGP and OSPF
Must have user-level experience with Linux systems
Excellent troubleshooting skills
In-depth WAN troubleshooting knowledge
Experience working independently with service providers
Strong knowledge of LAN related technologies: STP, vlans, HSRP, VTP etc.
Working technical knowledge of HTTP/S, DNS, POP, SMTP, FTP, SNMP, Tacacs
ARCSight and SourceFire experience is a plus.
Experience in remote system maintenance and management.
Mastery of layer 2 and layer 3 network fundamentals. Experience in enterprise ne
tworking. IPv6 and jumbo packet experience.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong customer service orientation
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
