MiCOM I400
Digital Transducers
Introduction
The MiCOM I400 range of digital
transducers is designed to meet the
world market requirements of high
accuracy with optional digital
communications at a competitive
price.
Available in two compact case
sizes of 45mm and 100mm wide,
these transducers can be supplied
fully calibrated or as a device for
customer calibration.
A multifunction transducer is
available offering measurement of
all power system parameters in one
housing with up to three optional
analogue outputs.

3
Applications
Applications are found in electrical
utilities, switchgear/switchboard
manufacturers, energy
management, SCADA, building
management and control, process
control and instrumentation.
MiCOM I400 digital transducers
provide local and remote indication
for precision electrical measurement
and control when used with
instruments, recorders, data loggers
and SCADA systems (Supervisory
Control and Data Acquisition).
Provision of both analogue outputs
and RS485/RS232 MODBUS
communications facilitates
integration within existing sites and
new facilities where digital
communications are used.
The ease of programmability of
digital transducers is an important
feature in the provision of cost
effective system control. Systems
can be easily changed or
expanded as required. Scaling
details may be delayed while the
system is being constructed without
causing costly project time delays.
Why MiCOM I400 digital
transducers?
As well as allowing integration into
digital control schemes, MiCOM
I400 digital transducers use state
of the art microprocessor
technology to enable customer
configuration using only a personal
computer and configuration
software.
Stability
The use of microprocessor
technology in the design of the
MiCOM I400 digital transducer
range guarantees accuracy and
stability over a range of
temperatures. The good long term
stability achieved reduces the
problem of long term drift that can
affect some analogue transducers.
This level of stability means that
MiCOM I400 digital transducers
can endure a lifetime of
maintenance-free operation.
Inherent design quality
ALSTOM T&D Ltd
Protection & Control operates
manufacturing and quality systems
that meet and exceed the
requirements of ISO 9001.

with ac power supply as standard.
This must be specified at the time of
order. Optionally, a universal
ac/dc power supply is available.
All triple output versions are
supplied with universal ac/dc
power supply as standard.
Multifunction programmable
Each device measures volts,
current, frequency Watts, vars, VA,
phase angle, power factor, THD%,
dynamic demands, maximum
demands and optionally, harmonic
analysis.
All measurements are available via
the communications port.
The multifunction transducer is
always supplied with the universal
ac/dc power supply and
communications port for customer
configuration.
The multi-function transducer is
available with none, one, two or
three analogue outputs. Each
output can be programmed to any
of the following measured functions: -

customer configuration. Free
software to allow customer
configuration from a PC is
available at the time of order
The programmable devices are
supplied with one of three output
ranges. Each can be programmed
for a unidirectional, a bidirectional
or a bent characteristic.
The three output types can be
programmed over the ranges as
below : -
Output reference Type P : -
101 mA to 505 mA
Output reference Type Q : -
606 mA to 20020 mA
Output reference Type R : -

RS232 Rx = terminal 21
Com = terminal 22
Tx = terminal 23
RS485 RxTxA = terminal 21
No connection = terminal 22
RxTxB = terminal 23
An auxiliary power supply is necessary for all the transducers except for the self powered current and
voltage transducers.
Output designations for multiple output transducers
Note: By default single output transducers always utilise the above terminal designations for output 1.

Caution! Refer to Operating &
Maintenance manual before
installing, commissioning, or
operating the equipment
1. Installation, commissioning and
maintenance should only be
carried out be suitably qualified
personnel.
2. Terminations exposed during
installation, commissioning and
maintenance may present a
hazard unless the equipment is
electrically isolated.
3. The equipment should only be
operated as intended eg. with
the covers in place, and within
the specified electrical and
environmental limits.
4. Due to the presence of
electrostatic sensitive devices on
the printed circuit board,
appropriate ESD protection must
be taken before commencing
installation, commissioning or
maintenance.
