The Refective English

Teacher
A new four day course for new English teachers in Romania
First run in the UK in 2010, The Refective English Teacher is a course for new English teachers who want to
expand their repertoire of teaching strategies, develop their condence in spea!ing English and i"prove their
understanding of #ritish culture$
There are lots of excellent %oo!s &ou can %u& on EF' teaching strategies ( this course "a!es the" co"e alive)
*our trainers will let &ou see the step+%&+step ,"echanics- of using powerful "ethods in the classroo" and
allow &ou to practise using the" in a ver& encouraging and supportive environ"ent$ The course strongl&
encourages an ,evidence %ased- refective approach to &our own self+develop"ent, which will ena%le &ou to
continuall& i"prove &our classroo" practice throughout &our teaching career$
The evening social programme is a ver& i"portant part of the course. it introduces a nu"%er of cultural
the"es as well as allowing "ore infor"al interaction with &our trainers$ *ou-ll have a great ti"e and co"e
awa& with a nu"%er of e/ective and practical ideas for integrating #ritish culture and societ& into &our
lessons$

Our Trainers:
3ll courses will %e delivered %& two of the following trainers.
Mark Andrews has %een involved in English 'anguage Teaching for
over <0 &ears, 12 of which were as a teacher trainer for the #ritish
4ouncil in 4=echoslova!ia, the 4=ech Repu%lic and 0ungar&$ 0e
"anaged a pro8ect on intercultural learning with a group of 0ungarian
teachers which resulted in co+authoring a course %oo! for inter"ediate
teenagers >?oo" 1n@$ 0e has trained on the 9xford Teachers- 3cade"&
for 9UA in 7er%ia, 0ungar& and England and for B &ears was the
director of the English #oo! su""er school in 7er%ia$ 0e wor!s at
ECtvCs 'orDnd Universit& in #udapest :E'TE; as a teacher trainer and is
currentl& involved in developing "aterials and teaching courses for
79'$ 0e has taught on 79' su""er schools for teachers for the last
three &ears$ 0e is a "e"%er of 13TEF' and co+ordinated the 0ungarian
4ulture and 'iterature special interest group for B &ears and is a %ig
supporter of teacher associations in 4entral and Eastern Europe, presenting at conferences in ten European
countries$
Andy Hockley has %een involved with the English 'anguage teaching
sector for over 20 &ears$ 0e has taught English all over the world, to
ver& di/erent groups of students and in ver& di/erent contexts, %ut for
the last ten &ears has %een involved "uch "ore heavil& in teacher
training and educational "anage"ent$ 0e has trained on "an&
iterations on the 71T TE79' 4erticate course :a U7 %ased 4E'T3
eEuivalent focussing on refective practice;, as well as a few 4E'T3
courses$ 0e has wor!ed with %eginner and experienced teachers in a
nu"%er of countries including the U73, Ro"ania, Aoland, K&rg&=stan,
Aalestine and #ra=il$ 1n addition he has %een training "anagers in E'T
and other educational contexts through the 1nternational 6iplo"a in
'anguage Teaching 5anage"ent :16'T5; and other courses, and is

co""unication and trainer training$ 9ver the last 10 &ears Uwe Aohl
has also wor!ed in a wide variet& of adult and teacher education
contexts doing in+service wor!shops, training courses and
consultancies in 0ungar& and Aoland :#ritish 4ouncil;, Her"an&

"imon !arker taught %usiness studies for nine &ears at Mohn 'eggott
4ollege in 7cunthorpe, UK, to 1N+1O &ear old students$ 1n 2000 he
crossed the Aennines to %eco"e 0ead of 3dult Heneral Education at
Runshaw 4ollege in 'ancashire, wor!ing under the directorship one of
the UKPs rst educational !nights, 7ir #ernard 9P4onnell$ 7i"on
relocated to Ro"ania in 200< where he has taught English in state and
private schools in #ucharest, FQgQraR and 4lu8$ 0e has %een involved in
training pro8ects since he arrived in the countr& and is the author of the
PTeaching Toda&P course which has %een delivered in 4asa 4orpului
6idactic centres in #ucharest and #raRov$ 0e has run wor!shops of
English teachers at national conferences in #ulgaria, 7er%ia, 7lovenia
and 7lova!ia, often with a focus on teaching presentation s!ills to
"iddle and high school students$ 7i"on has %een training English
teachers on 79'-s su""er courses in 6evon since 200S and for the U7
