Re: J ohnston County District Attorney's Office Superior Court Statistics and Announcement of
Intention to Seek Re-election
The J ohnston County District Attorney's Office continues to be one of the most efficient and
effective prosecutorial districts in the state in dispensing of criminal cases in Superior Court. Based on
statistics provided by the Administrative Office of the Courts for J uly 1, 2013 through December 31,
2013, J ohnston County ranks second best out of 44 prosecutorial districts for having the fewest number
of total cases pending in Superior Court. J ohnston County District Attorney's Office ranks third best in
the state for efficiently disposing of felony cases. Felonies in J ohnston County Superior Court are being
disposed within a median age of 147 days, which was significantly faster than the statewide median case
age of 204 days. Furthermore, J ohnston County District Attorney's Office staff ranked fifth best in the
state for efficiently disposing of misdemeanor cases appealed to Superior Court. In those cases,
J ohnston County resolved misdemeanors within 125 days compared to the statewide average of 201
days. Finally, J ohnston County ranked second in the state for disposing of traffic cases appealed to
Superior Court. Those cases were completed within 105 days as opposed to the statewide average of
231 days.
District Attorney Susan Doyle stated, "I am extremely proud of my staff and how efficiently they
have worked to dispose of cases in a timely manner while still achieving excellent results. These cases
encompass not only traffic offenses such as Driving While Impaired, but also include habitual felon
offenders and those who are charged with First Degree Murder. My office could not have been so
successful without the help of law enforcement, judges and other courtroom personnel who all work
together to get the job done with limited resources. When I took office seven years ago, I dedicated
myself to fairly and aggressively prosecuting all criminal offenses as well as being an advocate for victims
of crime. I am honored to serve as District Attorney for J ohnston County, and I hope to continue being a
voice for victims of crime by filing for my third term as District Attorney for J ohnston County."
