THUS SPAKE MAHASWAMI
DUTY OF THE YOUTH
T
he wise have said that the purpose of our body is to help others
(Paropakrartham Idam (sarram). Even while there is enough
stamina and energy in the body, the young should engage themselves
in service. Bodily strength has to be taken care of only for rendering
service to others. More important than bodily strength is that which
comes from good conduct. We have to live a pure life in accordance
with the sstra Dharmas enjoined by our religion. Only if we are pure
like this we can do service to others properly. If there is desire and
anger, how is it possible to render proper service?
If social service is to be real, those who are engaged in it must
have strong commitment to Dharma and Satya. They should not have
fear at all. Being fearless is different from acting in violent ways. The
two should not be confused. Anjaneyaswmi is the role model for the
youth. His strength was enormous but by nature, he was peaceful
(sntam). When it became necessary to rise, he rose to be a Mahavira
and caused destruction. His intelectual strength was great. Yet he was
immersed in Bhakti, humility personified and was rendering service.
He had no fear. Yet he did not resort to violence on his own. He acted
in retaliation to violence indulged in by others. He did not use his
strength for his personal benefits. Whenever they were subject to
hardshi p by those who were cruel , he acted courageousl y i n
protecting the weak.

It had been the long cherished wish of the Paramacharya,
that Kanchipuram, one of the most sacred cities, should once again
rejuvenate and become a famous centre of learning that it was in
ancient time for Vedas, Sastras, Philosophy and all the branches of
knowledge
The old culverts and writings bear testimony to Kanchi being
a great centre of learning .The tradition of Ghatikasthanam
(Centre of learning) flourished in Kanchi. The institution of the
University with the blessings of the Paramacharya and bearing his
holy name, as Sri Chandra sekharendra Saraswathi Viswa
Mahavidyalaya, is a step towards fulfilling the wish of the
Paramacharya.
The approach in this University would be inter
disciplinary. The students are imparted relevant traditional wisdom
along with modern scientific knolwedge. The aim is to bring in the
benefits of our traditional wisdom to our society by appropriate
adoption/ application through modern science, technology, arts,
management and the like. The combined approach is expected to
bring in sustainable development and harmony in society.
The faculty, students and other functionaries of the
University have to dedicate themselves whole heartedly to bring into
reality the holy wish of the Paramacharya, which would be a bene-
diction to our society.

The motto Vande Sadgurum Chandrasekharam means I
adore the Virtuous Preceptor Guru Sri Chandrasekharendra
Saraswathi Maha Swamigal, by whose name the Viswa Mahavidyalaya
is established and stands to fulfill His great vision.
The illuminous blessing palm symbolises the vast
Knowledge he transformed to generations. The joining of the thumb
and forefinger denotes the merger of Brahma and Jeeva (the advaita
philosophy), which can also be interpreted as integration of the
ancient Vedic knowledge with the modern scientific knowledge.
The Vyasapeetha (Wooden Pedestal for holding books) and the
Grantha (Palm leaves) represent Ghatikasthanam (place of knowledge)
the eighteen vidyasthanams and the sixty four traditional arts.
