ANALOG/DIGITAL RADIO
NETWORKING RECEIVE TERMINAL
GENERAL
The analog/digital radio networking receive terminal is used to receive satellite radio
signal to feed the relay transmitter or for monitoring purpose. The basic system consists
of a parabolic dish antenna with feed, outdoor units (LNB! and indoor units consisting
of"
#. LNB /$ %nit
&. Two 'nalog (eceiver and two )igital receivers with low loss (* cable connecting
outdoor units to indoor units.
The integrated system is designed to satisfy the overall performance of (adio Networking
(eceive Terminal, essentially the end results with an interconnecting low loss (* cable of
length +,m between outdoor and indoor units. 'lso separate - core cable assembly of
+,m lengths is connected between indoor units for LNB change over. Biasing to LNB
is supplied through (* cable.
The 'nalog/)igital (adio Networking (eceive Terminal receives the signal in fre.uency
range &.+ to &./ 012 (3 Band! through -.44m 5.).'. This signal is converted to 6+, to
##+, 712 in the Low Noise Block onverter (LNB!. The down converted L Band signal
is fed to LNB change over unit through +,m long low loss cable. The LNB change
over unit provides biasing to the selected LNB through the same (* cable. LNB
change over monitors the health of selected LNB and in case of failure change over to
standby LNB is done through control cable (- core!. L Band (* signal received by
LNB changeover unit is divided into four by four way splitter. L Band outputs from four8
way splitter are connected to two 'nalog and two )igital receivers through * to N low loss
of &m lengths.
The 'nalog and )igital receivers further down convert and demodulates these signals to
provide rebroadcast .uality audio output.

9t is 3ingle channel 5er arrier *7 receiver which is fre.uency agile over a +,, 712
band from 6+, 712 to #:+, 712. 9t can select any receive fre.uency within this range on
#, B12 steps. *re.uency selection is made via front panel thumb wheel switches. The L8
band input signal to it should have a fre.uency stability of &, B12.

The L8band to 9* converter is comprised of three oscillator/mi;er combination sub8stages
as well as tracking filter for image reDection. Ahen a carrier is selected using the thumb
wheel switches a set of >5($7s read the switch condition and adDusts the synthesi2ed
oscillators accordingly. This results in an 9* that directly represents the programming
fre.uency desired. The 9* is then passed to the programme audio demodulator section.
9n programme audio demodulator the selected receive carrier is demodulated, processed
and e;panded to its original form. The rear panel contains the facilities for balanced audio
output, signal strength indication and '* voltage output.

The hub or satellite transmission uplink station is the facility where the audio to be
transmitted is collected and uplinked to the satellite. This facility consists of an audio
encoder/multiple;er, a digital modem, an earth station, an antenna, and a network control
computer. 's an option, a terrestrial link can provide dial8up diagnostics and performance
monitoring of receiver sites.
The satellite link consists of a commercial telecommunications satellite in
geosynchronous orbit above the earth. Two radio fre.uency bands that are primarily
used are 8band and Bu8band.
