EXAMPLE CASE STUDY
Big Bank is a top-four bank in X country, offering a full range
of banking and bancassurance products. Two years ago it
took over Small Bank, particularly to benefit from Small
Banks specialist knowledge and customer base in Lending
to the Widget sector.
Small Banks lending division was merged with Big Banks
lending division, and a successful cultural transformation
programme resulting in the strengths of both operations
being blended into a new organisation, benefiting from the
Small Bank branding, due to its standing in the marketplace.
Over time it was realised that Small Banks previous activi-
ties in the Widget sector also had synergies which could be
exploited in the Tomato growing and Hair Extension sectors.
In addition, feedback from customers and relationship man-
agers also led towards thoughts of expansion into these
areas and specialist research was commissioned that con-
firmed these ideas. Thus Project X was conceived.
A team was created to work on Project X, consisting of six
members of the original Small Bank division, six from the
Tomato Growing and Hair Extension teams, together with
legal and technical assistance and headed up by the
Deputy Chief of Lending. Six months ago, Small Bank Ex-
citing Loans were launched. This was a specialist package

Immediate take up of the product was slow, but within three
months our marketing campaign and word of mouth had
created more demand for the product than expected. Our
target was for 4m within the first six months, but this was
exceeded in only five months, making the return on invest-
ment 5% higher than predicted and break even earlier than
expected. Projected growth is now at 50% above target for
the year and will make a significant contribution to the divi-
sions profits next year.

Current status and future plans
Following the successful launch of Exciting Loans, the team
has been expanded by another 20 FTE, and plans are in
place to recruit and train further people. Another benefit of
this has been that some staff that was in line to be rede-
ployed at other sites or made redundant have joined our
team, with the subsequent savings in redundancy payments
and recruitment fees.
We expect that growth in this product will increase by X%,
with at least half that growth coming from customers who
do not currently bank with Big Bank.
A team is now working hard to find out whether there are
further possibilities to adapt the product for other of our spe-
cialist lending teams.
The product will also be upgraded with the following fea-
tures within the next six months.

Graphs, tables or other
visual aids which offer
supporting information can
be very helpful in making
your point as long as they
are relevant to the subject.
Items of particular interest
may be added as a link to
another site but may not be
followed by the judges as
the entry is meant to be four
sheets of A4 and they have
to maintain fairness to all
entries. Multiple links are
unlikely to be followed or
read at all.
Depending on the subject of
the award, some or all of
these may be relevant.
Although this section carries
a quarter of the marks,
entrants often lose many
marks by not answering this
section fully. What is
happening with the product
now, how is it performing,
where are you taking it next?
